I've watching as much classic 70's cinema as possible since covidcation started. lots of drive-in, American International pictures and blaxploitation stuff. Last Detail was indeed fantastic. I was especially knocked out by The French Connection as i hadn't watched it in thirty years. Roy Scheider is vastly underrated in general.

We watched it again in ... April? May? Excellently done. The band Elgin Marbles, made up of pals of ours in Greenpoint and including WFMU's Dave Mandl, has a great song that's just the dialogue from the scene where they take the car apart. "Come On Irv"!

I'm not a movie-goer or -watcher for various reasons, but I do have a shortlist of movies I might be willing to watch again and again. One is Diane Kurys' early Peppermint Soda (Diabolo Menthe). Anybody know it? FWIW, I recommend it. In a word, it's poignant.

I liked Clementine. I think it was a good entry flick for a Western noob. Best of Everything is from '59, the lead ascends the ranks and becomes an editor almost at the expense of her romantic happiness. Robert Evans, Joan Crawford, and Louis Jourdan have supporting roles.

Avatar 12:34pm
Joe B:

The Beatles discovered the song through Brian Epstein’s NEMS store.

"Brian had a policy of buying at least one copy of every record that was released. If it sold, he’d order another one, or five or whatever. Consequently he had records that weren’t hits in Britain, weren’t even hits in America. Before going to a gig we’d meet in the record store, after it had shut, and we’d search the racks like ferrets to see what new ones were there… ‘Devil In Her Heart’ and Barrett Strong’s ‘Money’ were records that we’d picked up and played in the shop and thought were interesting."
