Hello David and Ruth. Started listening mid your introductory comments. Interesting sounds. One question, reading the signs in the playlist photo, one is partially obscured by glare. DEMOLISH SERIOUS ??? Can't quite make out the third line, CAROUSEL?

I believe it is CULTURE, WR. And welcome!

Flynt restaged the '63 event at Swiss Institute in 2018. Played half an hour with back to crowd, like Miles.

Flynt. Arrived in NYC in 1960, a 20 year old fire cracker. Interesting guy.

So good.

His guitar playing does sound as implied by the information on the Wikipedia page, few pointers from Lou Reed and listened to some collections of vintage recordings on Folkways.

Henry came to a few things at the Outpost over the years. I helped organize a couple of talks with him in the 80s with Tony Conrad and Glenn Branca. The one i remember best was about tri-tones and their possibly supernatural evil power

I know. I may have taped it but I can't remember. Never came across it in any clean ups either that I recall I guess it would have been on VHS...

I once tried to pitch the idea to Henry of 75 dollar bill being his backing band, but talks didn't proceed very far. I think he didn't perceive us sufficiently "rock" for what he wanted to do.

WR:

Flynt was / is very conceptual in his approach to creating sounds using vernacular tropes while Vliet and the many more to come, including the contemporaneous Velvet Underground had already
assimilated popular music so no Veramusement construct.
Avatar 6:20pm
northguineahills:

I still you should do a track labeled, "75 dollar bill, 75 dollar bill, y'all." (hiphop fans of Wyclef Jean/Lil' Wayne would get the reference).

Another fave Jim O'Rourke of mine (my wife has the hots for him).

not attuned enough to the Wyclef/Weezy continuum myself...
I'd jump at the chance to play with him if it presented itself but I may be content to admire Mr.Flynt's activities from afar at this point :)

Che Chen:

@WR i won't say know to more comments about veramusement!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:24pm

@WR. Your comment addresses a key point. It takes some nerve to follow Flynt all the way down the road.

First Frith album I heard, so I went I bought the first one I found, I was disappointed that it was "Dancing in the Street".
Avatar 6:32pm
northguineahills:

But, that rabbit hole took me to Henry Cow and then Henry Cowell Recs, so, win/win!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:34pm
david w:

Frith created double melodic lines by adding a pickup at the head, nice effect.
  6:34pm
ruth:

Very nice indeed
  6:37pm
Danny T:

WHat an extremely satisfying show wow thanks! I am being uplifted and transformed.
Northguineahills, from a fellow Henry Cow addict, I bet that now that you've traveled the entire rabbit hole loop, that 'Dancing in the Streets' single might now become entirely pleasing to you?

northguineahills:

OK. I ever knew CC Hennix was on this album (should read liner notes more often). Wow!
  6:49pm
Che Chen:

yeah, they collaborated a lot at one point. i believe Hennix actually made the tamboura tape that Flynt used throughout this period (rather than actually playing tamboura live on the recording).
  6:51pm
Che Chen:

also, if anybody wants to do any reading on Henry, this essay of his is a great look into his thinking behind these various stages of his music: www.henryflynt.org...

There's also the Dharma Warriors album (locust) where Hennix plays drums to Flynt's guitar.

I always thought Hennix always lived in Sweden, but I didn't discover her until around 2006.
  6:59pm
Che Chen:

Also, Ruth, that's cool that Henry did some things at Outpost. In the early 2000s I was involved with a DIY space called glasslands and Henry (then working with Locust) did a lecture and performance there too. He seems to come out in public once a decade or so...
