@barfo NYC in the 1840s up through the 1930s... “The Night Soil men” criss crossed the city every single night. You cannot see the smell in the Photographs of these hard working professionals! Seriously, though, Sheila, things have been so hard sometimes lately. Negotiating NYC in these times -- led by murderous idiots, surrounded by capital's playland -- can be hard.

It is a GIFT of you to remind us why we love it. To let us have the time and space and sounds to remember that being here can be a raw, ripping joy. And that it doesn't have to be nostalgia! We're here now! We're getting out and shouting to say "THIS is what New York looks like! Like the people!"

It's still our home. Love it and shout it.

Thanks, Sheila. Another gift.

Rick A.:

New York has been through many worse times than this. If you have seen Ric Burns' five part New York: A Documentary History, you know the many difficult times this city has experienced from the draft riots in the 1860s to the Great Depression to the 1970s fiscal crisis. It continues to endure as a haven for those of us that don't fit in elsewhere. Maybe this will chase out the posers who were here just for the consumer aspects of the city.

Most glaringly is loss of ability to vote due to violations of the “1970 Controlled Substance Act” ... The same men who stonewalled the Civil rights bills and Voting rights bills, led the charge to pass unjust public policy in 1970...
