Favoriting Acid Jazz Hands with Bronwyn Bishop: Playlist from September 4, 2020 Favoriting

Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

This show is so good that I'm actually going to do the dishes so that I can keep listening to it. If that isn't a sincere compliment, I don't know what is.

aww thanks so much gregory :)))

Also, I agree with you completely on the "Broadway X of Year" title. Perhaps you should call your show Musical Dandies of 2020 or something.

The Inaugurietes of 1960 << Stan Freberg's fake Revue of the 1960 election (which at the time was in the future).

I had to give up on Gold Diggers of 2020 because it was a bad idea, but I will do something with that construction someday
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

Good one Henry!! Someday I should do a whole show of just "x of year" shows
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

Quick warning that the show is around 6 minutes short this week...but soon there will be no such technical difficulties because the show will soon be gloriously LIVE!!!

It sure is. I've never seen it but the remake came out in 2009 when I was attending a performing arts high school. We all thought it was dumb as hell

You have to understand the Film Musical Landscape of the time. Pretty dismal! And there were lots of talented kids there!

It was lots better than FootLoose which came out in '84.

The Paul Motian On Broadway series is fantastic, IMHO. It ranges from trio to larger band to vocal things.
And hi, Spodio'!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

@Henry: I've never seen the original, I'm sure it's much better. And to be fair to the remake, I haven't seen it in 11 years so it might be better than I remember, and I think we were all pretty determined to hate it because of our inferiority complex towards the NYC performing arts school

I knew a bit about musicals before, and have a quite a few albums, but I actually had an online conversation about musicals the other day, and got all the references, and it's thanks to you (musicals, probably my last musical frontier).
Avatar 8:29pm
spodiodi:

i saw both the movie and the tv series, and we did a little production at my grade school that was pretty silly, but we had a lot of fun . ... all the kids seemed to be into it..... i think because the tv show's popularity at the time

I have the Fame sndrk on vinyl. saw the the tv show, but I was 6-10 years old, so, I wouldn't have gotten the references at the time.
