When I was younger I was often told that I looked like this version of Dylan, curly hair and all. Then the hair went straight, face got round, grew a beard and was told I was a dead ringer for Clapton. Now I'm more like Sideshow Bob
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:24pm listener james from westwood:

Just looked up the Valley of the Dolls film; evidently Harlan Ellison did a script polish on it but took his name off when they lightened up the ending. So among this film's virtues is ticking off that dyspeptic putz.

lost the cannibalism scene??

Funny how polo necks don't really make it.
Just an observaton.
Avatar 3:55pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Polo necks feel like I am being softly strangled. Not exactly what i am into. I am into scruffy clothes thanks to a washing machine too old to be repaired, and a fear of using public transport and launderettes.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Phillippe Bastille:

Just picked up this Corrs at a thrift shop for $.50!

Avatar 🦇 4:04pm Bas NL:

Very dreamy indeed!
Avatar 4:07pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Best finds before corona: A Hard Day's Night, original UK Mono for 20 euros. Rear cover scruffy, record cheap for its value, and those old mono pressings are L-O-U-D.

But the owner had glued pictures of Beatles over the "Parlophone" labels, so I was quite pissed off, until I realized they were genuine prints not magazine cuttings. And then, "there is some writing... Paul McCartney. Ringo Starr..... !!!!!!"

(please note those autographs could be fake. But compared to some online samples - they look quite genuine to me. It is possible they were trophies from either one of Beatles' visits to Sweden - the closest they ever came to Finland. The previous owner's name on the cover is Finnish, and also many Finns emigrated to Sweden during 1960s)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm brainiac:

Cha Cha: What a score! You'll have to get that authenticated and let us know the good news.
  4:08pm Haggers:

well, you clearly convinced yourself!
Avatar 🦇 4:09pm Bas NL:

Great find, PCC2000!
Avatar 4:13pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

I liked that song, kept reminding me of another one but I couldn’t put my finger on it
Avatar 4:18pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@4:08 brainiac:
@4:09 Bas NL:
even if the signatures were some hustler's attempts at striking gold, the record is worth the 20 euros. Good music, good mono sound, good pressing (scratches do not manage to ruin the listening experience). I have read from many places mono mixes were the ones closer to what the (UK) artists wanted, as they at least had the option to be present, whereas stereo was so new the mixing situation was literally a case of an environment with engineers in white coats - "do not disturb".
Avatar 4:22pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@4:13 Sylvia (France-NYC): you meant the Donna Regina one? A very enjoyable tuner, yes.
Avatar 4:23pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

yes!
Avatar 4:23pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

I don't remember ever hearing that Cocteau Twins tune, even if I have that compilation.
  4:27pm northguineahills:

@Phillipe: probably b/c I’m working. (No clicky stars).
Avatar 4:32pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Julie, did you say you have your apartment until early October, or did I get it all wrong? Are you moving again?
Avatar 4:33pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

OK, never knew an Elton version existed.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:33pm Julie:

no, I've already moved, but the old place is still mine till October.
Avatar 4:37pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

This reminds me, Art Garfunkel's concert was cancelled. Never seen either him or Paul Simon live, let alone the two of them together.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Julie:

I got to see them together at Mohegan Sun I believe it was. 2003 or 2004 something like that.
Avatar 4:39pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@4:38 Julie: serious envy here....

This - Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger & The Trinity - is another thing I should look into more.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Julie:

it was amazing. It was with the family I probably wouldn't even have thought of it.
  4:44pm Dean:

Just occurred to me, thanks to this Here, that you might enjoy IQ, a British prog band seemingly inspired by Selling England period Genesis, e.g., https://www.discogs.com/IQ-Tales-From-The-Lush-Attic/master/279873

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Handy Haversack:

How goes, chris?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:59pm chris:

hey, Handy! its all right. headache and tight chest from the smoke. tried to cool down the house last night by leaving windows open. paying for it now, because i slept through all the smoke that was pouring in. at least its cooler inside than out! how's it with you in the BK?
  4:59pm Dean:

Looks like the title is Chronometree, not -naut.

Liner notes on the CD ask, "Do you remember the first time you heard a progressive rock album?" Well, yes, I do. In fact, it was the very album depicted there in the notes, Close to the Edge. It was an 8-track tape, '72 or '73.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:00pm chris:

ah ha! nice kismet there, Dean.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:03pm Julie:

yes indeed

Avatar 5:14pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

oh crap, Julie. Any info re: the truck driver?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:15pm chris:

sorry, Julie! RIP, Julie's car.
  5:15pm Mr Nobody:

Makes me want to start using dash cams
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Phillippe Bastille:

Used car market is very tight due to low inventory, according to my car dealer son. Prices are high right now. Make sure they show you comps they use for the basis of their check amount -- they "should" be giving you enough money to buy one based on what other recent cars sold for, not "book" value
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:18pm Handy Haversack:

Sparrows have to get by without me for now, Phillippe. Doing inside things.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:18pm chris:

great advice, Phillippe! my insurance company also payed the estimated taxes for a replacement car purchase, recently.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Julie:

I have a friend who suggests I lease instead of buy, thinking about it
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:20pm Phillippe Bastille:

Yes, and they should also pay for half (?) of your registration fees.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:20pm chris:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:20pm Rich in Bay Ridge:

Really digging the show today. This Hitchock is great.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:20pm Julie:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Phillippe Bastille:

I wouldn't lease a car in the city without bubble wrap...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Handy we've had a couple sparrows around here looking a little confused. Your guys, maybe?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:24pm chris:

certainly defining "normal wear and tear," before signing anything would be advised, i'd think.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Handy Haversack:

Were they fat and clever? I think we're enabling a generation of overweight sparrows here.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Phillippe Bastille:

Yep, scratches and dings and bumpers misaligned can get expensive. Wish we were nearby, my son could hook you up -- he goes to dealer auctions that run 1,000+ cars a week. Every vehicle we've owned the last 10 year except for one came through him.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Handy it's just a lack of exercise and crappy diets. Damn sparrows and their stupid cell phone towers and fast food wrappers...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Julie:

wow
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Julie:

didn't really look that bad to me they will probably fix it and sell it

Nah, they'll scrap it or sell it for parts. If they fix a car that was totaled, they have to sell it with a salvage title, which means they have to sell it at a reduced price. Insurance companies will only insure a partial amount with a salvage title.
Avatar 5:38pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

I probably have not heard this loveliescrushing album. Not as lo-fi as the earlier stuff but soooooo good.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Julie:

i know it's just a car but it makes me sad. I've only ever had two. The first one I got rid of because it was constantly having things go wrong. This one seemed to run quite well even at 8 years old.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:39pm Julie:

Cha Cha I love everything they do
Avatar 5:40pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Virna Lindt is news to me, this is from 1981 and from the neighbouring country, but this is the first time I hear this :)
Avatar 5:42pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@5:39 Julie: I should try & find more from them. They have their own sound, unlike so many using the same tools.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Phillippe Bastille:

I'll ask my son if he knows anyone up there who might help you out. I know he's bought a few things up there, not sure if they were through a dealer network. If he thinks he can put you in touch with someone, I'll DM his info on twitter if you like. It looks like Manheim (the big auction company he deals with) has a weekly auction in Fairfield NJ
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Julie:

she only has a couple albums and some singles.. not sure she's done anything past the 80s
Avatar 5:44pm βrian:

What décolletage, Davy!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Julie:

I don't even remember where it was I found her CD but I'm glad I did
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Handy Haversack:

Davy Jones's lock, er, of chest hair.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Phillippe Bastille:

My night to cook! Later gators!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Julie:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:48pm chris:

off for errand running. good luck with everything, all. thanks for the great tunes today, Julie!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:48pm chris:

ha, Handy! :)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:49pm Handy Haversack:

Later, Phillippe, chris!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:49pm Julie:

bye Chris, thanks for listening!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Handy Haversack:

*Almost* "Matty Groves"! Will the end be as bloody?
  5:50pm zmmz:

I liked thier Garden of Jane Delawney
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Julie:

it seems there is a lord love a duck matty groves connection "Al Hine's 1961 novel Lord Love a Duck opens and closes with excerpts from the ballad, and borrows the names Musgrave and Barnard for two characters."
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Handy Haversack:

I've seen the movie but didn't even realize it was a novel!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:54pm Julie:

every so often I try to find the book but it's wicked out of print
  5:54pm zmmz:

like ONJ turned from country to disco when Michael turned to white...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Handy Haversack:

I'll keep an eye out, Julie.
Avatar 5:56pm Daya:

Sorry I’m late, hi Julie, everyone
Avatar 6:01pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

One of your birds just sang nicely in time with Cruel Summer. I'm their fan!
  6:03pm northguineahills:

Went to a house w/ a lot of pet birds in the screened-in porch. I thought, it sounds like Julie’s pad!
  6:04pm Dean:

First car accident: two weeks after I got my license. I was turning left against stopped oncoming traffic, having been waved ahead by a driver. (Please don't ever do that.) Another car was speeding along the shoulder. Wham. Took the citation to court and won.

Second car accident: I was t-boned by a nun who was gabbing with her passenger through the red light.

Third car accident: Eastbound on I-5 near downtown LA an 18-wheeler drifted to the right into my lane, sent my car hurling around, ending up in front of the truck perpendicular to traffic. I saw the word MACK emblazoned above my driver's side window. Trucker stopped without further incident.
Avatar 6:05pm Daya:

Hmmm, this reminds me of the Cocteau Twins :)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:05pm Julie:

yikes
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:05pm Julie:

they are quite wonderful band from north carolina
  6:06pm Blahg:

Its always the other person;s fault lol
  6:06pm Dean:

Fortunately, I've never been the other person.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:07pm Julie:

I did hit a guy once changing lanes trying to avoid going to the GWB. Was very minor but the only time it was my fault.
Avatar 6:09pm Daya:

Reading through past comments: I got my Mini from CarMax, for me it was so much easier, and they transferred it up from VA for free, exactly what I wanted, make/model.
I never understood why to lease, because after it ends, you have nothing, unless you buy it out. But it works for some.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:09pm Julie:

daya, good to know!
  6:09pm northguineahills:

I got T-boned when I was 20. The kids thought a blinking red was a suggestion. I was relatively fine.
  6:10pm Dean:

Leasing might work better for folks who use the vehicle for business?

Just learned that my favorite record store in town has reopened successfully, four days per week, four hours per day.
Avatar 6:11pm Daya:

Yes, pets are awesome, hope to have some again some day. :)
Avatar 6:11pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

If I moved deeper into the sticks (up north especially) I'd really need a driver's licence. but.... hereby I announce I have not only a fear of flying but also one of being a a car passenger, and really would not dream of starting to drive one day.
Glad you are in one piece, Dean, those three incidents sound pretty scary.
Avatar 6:11pm Daya:

Daen: yes, leasing works for business purposes.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:13pm Julie:

being able to drive during lockdown has been good for my sanity..until now of course
  6:13pm Dean:

Thanks, PCC2000. Yes, they were. I honestly thought the I-5 incident was going to conclude with my being delivered to my parents in Tupperware like so much chopped liver.
Avatar 6:14pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Nervus Rex! A croatian (?)web-radio called Digital Impulse has a new wave channel (they have many genre-tailored channels) where Nervus Rex was played at least a few years ago very often.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:15pm Julie:

my apologies mr nobody I really thought this was a floyd song
Avatar 6:15pm Daya:

Ugh, car accidents suck, I’ve been in too many! Worst was when I smashed into a windshield with my face (which might explain my not so attractive visage) when someone hit me head-on.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:16pm Julie:

oh wow
  6:17pm Dean:

I've long felt that in California, at least, it should be one strike and you're out. One serious moving violation and no more drivers license. Of course, I'd have lost mine long ago, but we'd have, what?, 10% of the drivers on the road. Much like the first few months of COVID.
Avatar 6:17pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Sour grapes, Mr. Barrett :)
Avatar 6:18pm Daya:

But as they say, in California: “Nobody Walks in L.A.” ;)
  6:20pm northguineahills:

Good news, Dean! (Record Store reopening).
Avatar 6:21pm Daya:

Ahhh, a Pleasant Valley reference I see, up there in the playlist :)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Julie:

well leasing is like renting an apt. you don't end up with anything but then you can lease a different one.
Avatar 6:25pm Daya:

True, and most people change cars every 4-5 years anyway, or they want to at least ;)
Avatar 6:29pm βrian:

To me, 5 years is the break-in period. I've never bought a new car, though. Pretty sure I never will.
  6:29pm Dean:

Nice, a Graham Parker I haven't heard. Recently acquired through him a few discs, e.g., some early live shows packaged as CDs to look like the old Amazing Korneyfone LP bootlegs.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Julie:

someone suggested him recently, may have been you!
  6:31pm Dean:

I do remember talking here about Squeezing Out Sparks a week or so ago...
Avatar 6:33pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Speaking about recommendations, have you done your Felt homework Julie?
  6:35pm Dean:

Yep, August 22 show.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:35pm Julie:

I found some but I haven't listened yet!
Avatar 6:38pm βrian:

Nina Häagen-Dazs!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Julie:

oh great now I want ice cream. One thing about my new place, no more grocery just at the corner.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Julie:

who wants to pick a theme for next week's 6-7 hour?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Das Hagen !
Avatar 6:39pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@6:35 Julie: Ignite the Seven Cannons might be the best bet due to the earlier mentioned Cocteau Twins connection. Listening thru the whole Felt discography on spotify (grrr, how I wish I had the lp's) has became a fall tradition at pcc2000 digs.
Avatar 6:40pm Daya:

Theme: automobiles?
Avatar 6:41pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@6:39 Julie: you're on for 7 hours next week?!?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:41pm Julie:

and THIS is about ice cream, so there ya go
Avatar 6:41pm Daya:

Or more appropriately: ice cream?
(probably not too many ice cream songs to fill that much time tho’)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:41pm Handy Haversack:

Julie: Non-English-language songs for 6-7 next week?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:41pm Julie:

LOL no, the 6-7PM hour
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:42pm Julie:

ooh Handy I can totally do that, great idea!
  6:43pm Dean:

Well, then, Magma!

Avatar 6:45pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Yes, indeed, one of a few who, among other things, sing in their own languages. Start with Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh?

If you want to play something really obscure, you could start with my buddy's prog rock with lyrics sung in the language he invented:

  6:49pm Dean:

(Vocalist is the guy who created languages for Game of Thrones, etc., not my buddy.)

Here's a New Yorker feature from 2012 about my buddy and his language. I spent virtually every day from fourth grade on into high school with John and his twin brother: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2012/12/24/utopian-for-beginners

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:52pm Julie:

thanks Dean I'll check him out
Avatar 6:53pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000 starts FLOODING:

should there be a non-english hour, my 2 cents: "Vanha Mies" by Kaseva. or "Luulosairas" or "Pedagogi" by Wigwam. or anything off PAAVOHARJU's 1.&2. albums (Yhä hämärää (2005) & Laulu laakson kukista (2008) respectively). Or anything from the album Claudius by "Finland's own Curve" (ha!) WILMA.

I know this is not a request show, I just could not help myself ;)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:53pm Handy Haversack:

Thanks, Julie. Mood much improved from when I made my entrance.
  6:53pm northguineahills:

The Italian stuff from early PFM...

That's great, ngh. I think I vaguely recall our discussing it. I mention it periodically on these here comment boards.
