Sadly, Matchbox 20 is more the norm for most people though after a year or two, the CDs wind up gathering dust in a basement somewhere. You can find them online for now for fifty cents or so if anyone wants to build their Matchbox library now.

Story songs have become increasingly rare on the charts. I know there are some out there from fairly recently -- "Stan" by Eminem comes to mind -- but since the '70s heyday, they've been scarce as radio hits.

There are also seem to a lot fewer songs about fatal car crashes ... that seemed to be a genre at some point. "Fairchild" is a story song, a car crash song, a "you done me wrong song", and a "I'm gonna kill my woman" song. Quite a Venn Diagram there.
