Ah, the Blues Trane!

Handy Haversack:

Just realized today is twenty-four years since my dad died. He'd have dug the show. Thanks, Matt. Cheers, Dad!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm
Jeff Golick:

Thanks for this, Mr. DJ. And HBD JC.

Healing blues for the people of Louisville and the family of Breonna Taylor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm
Matt Fiveash:

HH- Thanks! My Dad's deathaversary was just a few days ago. I think he might have dug the show too, assuming he could have succesfully wrestled the technology necessary to do so...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm
Handy Haversack:

Ha! Exactly, Matt. I'd have had to put it on cassette. And pressed play. Thanks, Matt.

Ken: Well said. A-freaking-men.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm
Matt Fiveash:

Ken: Word.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm
Matt Fiveash:

Also Ray Charles's birthday! Best set of birthday twins ever? Possibly beating out even Fats Domino/Johnny Cash and Elvis/Bowie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm
Jeff Golick:

And Bruce for the trifecta?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Matt @Handy: Yeah, I transferred stuff I liked to cassette well into the end of the millennium to play for my dad while we were in his car. And, as a huge fan of the good blues music, he would have loved this show, without a doubt (and probably have questioned me as to why my show wasn't more like it, except for the mere two times a year it kinda is).
  7:29pm
Ira:

Not so fast, Matt: I share my birthday with the tandem of Tony Conigliaro and Kenny Loggins.
Avatar 7:30pm
Melissa Jean:

YAY RAY!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm
Matt Fiveash:

Well but with Elvis/Bowie there's also Tampa Red, and I rate that a stronger (if not more famous) trifecta than Coltrane/Ray/Bruce.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm
Gaylord Fields:

Roy Orbison/my dad are my favorite birthday twins. I'm a birthday twin with Aldo Jones (R.I.P.) of the Ben Vaughn Combo.
Avatar 7:32pm
Melissa Jean:

I think Ray was technically a Libra but he def had some Virgo tendencies
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm
Matt Fiveash:

Ira, your team definitely gets in the 3 on 3 basketball tournament
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm
Matt Fiveash:

Weekly World Blues: the show probably beloved by dead dads everywhere!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm
Gaylord Fields:

By "birthday twin" in the two instances I cite, I mean born on the precise month/day/year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm
Handy Haversack:

Gaylord, once I could afford to, I bought my dad a cassette player and tapes by Billie Holiday, Coltrane, Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, and Tom Waits. He was generous enough to say he also liked the Tom Waits. Most of the others he'd known personally, so it was stiff competition.

My birthaversary is Edgar Allan Poe's deathaversary, which I have always liked.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm
Matt Fiveash:

Thanx for clarification Gaylord. I'm not that strict; Coltrane is 4 years older than Ray Charles. Today is Ray's 90th!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm
Gaylord Fields:

That's your fundraising premium bumper sticker right there, Matt!
  7:34pm
Ira:

Thanks for the invite, Matt, but I'm gonna pass. Loggins is a chucker.
  7:34pm
actual person:

My dead dad would not of liked this show, not sure what he would have liked to listen to. Once when Jonny Cash was on the radio he didn't seem too impressed with that either.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm
Jeff Golick:

Digging into my birthday twins. I found Bobby "Blue" Bland and G. E. Smith. Sort of a wash.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Handy: Rick James' death ruined one of my birthdays. And I was with a friend visiting from Buffalo when we heard, to make it extra sad.

I do know that my dead dad didn't like Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini when I played it over and over from a 45 rpm. Cant say I blame him, but I was really turned on by the fantasy, maybe six years old.

@Handy: @slugluv1313: Yeah, big bummer. On the other hand, Chubby Checker debuted The Twist on The Dick Clark Show the day I was born.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm
Matt Fiveash:

Ira, by my rules you get pre-beaning Tony C, I bet he was a way above average cager. You and Loggins just give him the ball and get out of the way.

Dungaroos Kipawah:

Oh man, I got Judy Collins & Ray Parker, Jr. We’re gonna get creamed in 3 on 3. Maybe I can get Judy Blue Eyes to ruin “Ghostbusters” with her caterwauling—as if that were possible.

a dear friend of mine was born on October 2nd, Gandhi's date of birth -- when i learned of this i was like, "ah HA! no wonder you are such a sweet person!"
on the other hand -- when i looked up what happened on my date of birth, not only was it the day that Hitler came to power in Germany, but also the day that Gandhi was assassinated -- ughhhhhh . . . and i thought, no wonder i have always felt this huge responsibility to help heal the Earth, all this horrible stuff happened on my birthday :(

@slugluv: I was quite the li'l twister at parties when I was a toddler, my parents tell me!

And as for your Gandhi/Hitler ignominy, I know what you mean, as I was born on the 15th anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing.

Spazz- I don't think I have ever heard a bad version!

Ruslan Nigmatullin, Russian footballer
Charlotte Perrelli, Swedish singer
