Moved from kitchen to bedroom/ office. Using headphones now.

dr. j WR hey! Having a good soak I hope.

The stereo imaging of the piano is interesting.

david w:

Sergei is fascinated by electronics and psychoacoustics as much as by the piano (and its history).
🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:59pm
WR:

Remarkable that I have no recollection of knowing of the work of Joan Jonas. Must not have been paying attention. Looking out the window or dozing too often. Jaso Moran contribute the piano on this?
🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:59pm
WR:

Jason....

Sorry, should read the note before asking.

Jonas' circles are really video art and the movement artists like Yvonne Rainer so sound folks may have been looking elsewhere.
  6:16pm
ruth:

I was lucky enough to see a few of JJ's performances in the Berkeley Art Museum in the mid 70's and they were really a touchstone for me. her beautiful drawings projected.

That's an interesting crib, there. I wonder what the annual window cleaning bill is.

βrian & Gail hi. There is no late any more Gail.

Ha, βrian! Those "homes of the future" folks always neglect a few key details.

I just wanted to add that one of the performances of Joan Jonas I saw was Organic Honey's Vertical Roll which is, to my recollection the first time I saw a piece using an electronic glitch as a formal element
🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:24pm
WR:

Forget the window cleaning bill, the landscape maintenance would be immense. All so neatly mown and trimmed. The 50s indeed.
  6:26pm
ruth:

@βrian there's probably scaffolding up all over the dome half the year. Just like IRL NYC

I usually catch the archive since your time-slot bump, but Hi!
  6:29pm
ruth:

HI hamster!
🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:36pm
WR:

ruth, wikipedia on write up on Verical Roll and Organic Honey emphasizes early use of video feed to CRT monitors. Do you recall if the use of video itself (not whether Jonas was doing something special) seemed new and fresh to you at the time.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:36pm
david w:

Yes, Henry, we've heard that a lot.
  6:40pm
ruth:

I had seen plenty of video art by the mid seventies but none of it that I saw was used as extensively in a live performance situation that also incorporated movement, live sound, and projections
🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:42pm
WR:

Interesting how this piece does evoke urban and rural ambient sound. Crickets and bull roaring frogs and garbage trucks and ventilation systems.

This concert was in Brooklyn, but the nature (and bird!) sounds are likely transported by David Dunn but maybe mixed with garbage trucks here?
