Good evening Ira and fellow debate truants.
Avatar 9:04pm

It's nine o-somethin. Good. Hello/hola.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05pm

hi Ira, all. glad to be here listening \m/
Avatar 9:07pm

good evening, Ira and Skeleton Crew and Everyone!
happy to be here too :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08pm

this track needs a few more places for clicky stars
  Swag For Life Member 9:10pm

I'll say hi now, and try to think of something cleverer to say later.
  Swag For Life Member 9:11pm

Super creepy!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16pm

Hey Ira, Crew, folks.
Avatar 9:22pm

..my neighborhood hardware proprietor.

Hey Ira! If anyone is watching the debate, do it on Twitter with your smartphone. Get it in full screen mode. The left side is Drumpf with endless comments rolling over his face and the right side is Biden with tons of hearts floating up. SO GOOD!
John L:

Can't bring myself to watch or listen to the debate. Once in awhile I'll take a gander, but a quick one , like a kid looking through the blinds hoping the lightning is moving away from the house.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25pm

My old orange and white set is on the fritz.

i lit my orange on fire
  Swag For Life Member 9:26pm

I doubt I'd be watching, even if I weren't on the air. Glad to have the choice made for me.
Avatar 9:27pm

@John L. -- my strategy exactly!
LOVING Television as a beautiful foil :)
  Swag For Life Member 9:28pm

On another note, so great to hear Televsion's guitars going out of tune within the space of this live cut. If you got to see them live, they would tune and tune and tune. I never saw a better band.
Avatar 9:28pm

Love raw live Television.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28pm
Mike W:

the counterprogramming this moment demands,
thanku i’ll take my answer on the air
Avatar 9:29pm

@Ira -- *jealous*! NEVER got to see them live!
and, this "Adventure" not on my LP -- so cool to hear :)
John L:

slugluv1313, I'm also getting pretty stoned while drinking tea out of a Feelies coffee cup.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm
listener 126464:

Thanks Ira, my Honey Radar radar was going off.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34pm

sounded like the Jeopardy music for a sec coming in there
  Swag For Life Member 9:34pm

@John L.: I've got that coffee cup! I think I have something different in it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34pm
Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

The "debate" is unwatchable. tRump has talked non-stop through every Biden answer, as ever, without consequence. Honestly, is anyone "undecided"? The entire exercise is useless in these circumstances.
Avatar 9:36pm

@ John L. -- hah! perfect!
i mentioned earlier that even though i have not done heavy drugs in ages, and rarely drink these days, i am REALLY craving both right now :)

John L:

Is it be or is Trust kinda underrated in the Elvis canon?
LA the other Louisiana:

heading offline, just want to thank Ira and the bones for great sounds
  Swag For Life Member 9:48pm

So long, LA.
listener pi:

That debate...wow.

It's watchable for me. Potus gets called a liar and a jerk to his face in a debate. It's a first. He needed to be harried and challenged much more over the last 4 years. I think everyone was too careful with him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52pm

I'm happy that people play Sam Rivers' music now and then.
Jeff formerly from Rahway:

Ira your show is a great excuse to avoid all social media tonight. Thank you for being on the air.

They do play Sam Rivers! I was just reminded of local sax player/composer Nick Mazzarella covering Beatrice with his trio at Andy’s Jazz Club where I had taken some out-of-town folks who were in for my friend Saqib’s wedding. I was so proud of Chicago
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm
Vanessa bikes:

Still missing Nate K but you are making it hard, Ira, this Tuesday night.

I had been hoping for Blue Yodel No. 9 on the blue-themed show. But I’ll swing outside the zone for this

David amram will turn 90 next month.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm
Kat in Chicago:

oh dang slugluv, unfortunately ActBlue isn't hiring in my state or I'd be all over that remote donor support position. I'm job hunting atm too

Not next month.. November.
  Swag For Life Member 10:08pm

@Georgia can't wait for that October Hellraiser!
  Swag For Life Member 10:08pm

just watched modern romance last night for the first time, and that was the scene I showed my partner.
John L:

I am on a FB film page and Albert Brooks came up several times recently. A few people with questionable taste, but he was well defended. Comedy is hard to argue about, though.
  Swag For Life Member 10:10pm

Modern Romance--one of my favorite movies. And James L. Brooks's finest directorial work.
Avatar 10:15pm

@Kat in Chicago -- oh gosh -- same here!
they are not hiring in NJ either :(
have the debate on but cannot handle watching too much -- my fact-checking brain is having a meltdown aghhhhh!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm
Kat in Chicago:

you're braver than I, I'm not going near the debate.

Robyn Hitchcock yassss!

Greetings from Ellensburg, WA.
  Swag For Life Member 10:19pm

It's a pleasure to have you, Mr. Gould. Big fan.
Avatar 10:22pm

@ Kat in Chicago -- not sure if i am braver!
i mentioned earlier -- morbid curiosity? and knowing one's enemy grrrrr . . . !
i DID look at the NY Times though, to see if they were hiring fact checkers :)
Rick G:

@egould310: I bought my first Yo La Tengo record at Old Skool Records in Ellensburg. (I’m Not Afraid...) Late to the game but still. I try to hit Mark Pickerel’s stand in Thorpe when I visit, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm

Just came over from the debate. Sheesh, give me a little sanity!
Avatar 10:30pm

@leshwatt -- sending you healing sane vibes/energy :)
John L:

Love this Mordecai. Has a New Zealand sound. I'll have to look them up.
  Swag For Life Member 10:30pm

@leshwatt: You're too late for one of your namesakes. I was threatening to play the song again. Now I think I will.

dont feel bad, rick I'm Not Afraid was my maiden voyage, too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm

Go Ira go!!
rich from Red Hook:

Foggy Notion, great song to compliment the debate

@RickG Old Skool is still here and was open today. I’m in town on business. I’ll stop in tomorrow afternoon and tell ‘em “Rick G says Heeeyyyu-ooooo!!!!”
Rick G:

@absmiami: thanks! Here’s the thing: I bought it about 9 years after it came out! I’m a newbie and just happy to have stumbled upon it all. It’s plenty fun to play catch up, even (especially?) at this age, ha.
Avatar 10:42pm

something i learned waaaaaay back when i was a kid in the 60s/70s, reading Ann Landers: so many women would write in, asking Ann for advice b/c their husbands were constantly accusing them of cheating on them -- and the wives were not doing any of that at all, nor had any attention of doing so -- and usually it was the husbands who were doing the cheating!
and ever since, i have observed that those who shout the loudest and make the biggest stinks about alleged offenses are the ones who are actually committing those offenses :(
John L:

Helen Reddy passed away. You have a copy of Angie Baby tucked away?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm
Chop Scott:

No malarkey here, thanks Ira.
  Swag For Life Member 10:43pm

I wish I was prepared to pay tribute to Helen Reddy, but sadly all I can do tonight is remember her fondly.
Avatar 10:45pm

oh no! Helen Reddy gone?
i grew up with her songs
Delta Dawn! You and Me Against the World! and even though it is cheesy AF, I am Woman
  Swag For Life Member 10:46pm

My producer is trying to come up with someone who covered this Mayo Thompson song. Anyone know?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm
Kat in Chicago:

it was super cheesy but it was still great
Avatar 10:47pm

Don Jr. is coked outta his "mind" and Gayle King looks exhausted -- so THANK YOU IRA FOR BEING HERE!!!!!!!!
John L:

I may have to pull out my Midnight Special DVD box after your show is over. Lower Dens do a cover. Just found it on YT.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm

Ira, tell your producer I was hoping it would be YLT the next time Todd invites them to his Marathon show
John L:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm

Thanks Ira and WFMU crew and listeners!
Avatar 10:53pm

@Kat in Chicago -- right?
one of the most incongruous things i have ever witnessed was during my 7th or 8th grade talent show -- the basketball team's cheerleaders (b/c back then, there WAS no girls' basketball!) got up on stage and twirled their batons to "I Am Woman" (yeah, by 5th grade i was being referred to as one of those "stupid women's libbers" hah!)

Mississippi John Hurt HELL YEAH

at least a clinic sponsored the debate, apt
  Swag For Life Member 11:03pm

Hiya, Jack. I'm not playing Jaded Azurites a 3rd time, no matter how nicely you ask!

Nice piece of bubblegum to chew on. Thanks, Ira.
  Swag For Life Member 11:08pm

As long as I've got your attention, next week's show will be a tribute to the there-are-no-words Marshall Allen. The Arkestra's Tusk Festival set plus lots lots more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm

Sad news about Helen Reddy, I have good childhood memories of listening to her Greatest Hits album with giant headphones.

hey ira did you watch that catherine o'hara outerlimits episode discussed last week?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm

Marshall Allen is a treasure indeed.

I watched the whole debate. I can sum it up this way. you know that western the good the bad the ugly.

Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

So much loveliness, Ira
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm

These sounds are soothing after that hideous "debate" which was really more like sticking my head in a buzzsaw. Just constant angry interruptions and lies. Everybody lost, especially the viewers.
Avatar 11:27pm

@melinda -- same here, took the carnage in tiny doses
i felt so horrible for Chris Wallace! and Gayle King looked exhausted :(
  Swag For Life Member 11:28pm

Thanks, Kenzo. And never to soon to thank everyone for listening. When I was young, just knowing The Birds was on tv was enough to scare the crap out of me, even though I wasn't watching. I felt that way tonight.

fortunately PBS uploaded videos of all the previous debates onto YouTube recently.

My buddy Jason Kander deleted his "Like arguing with an airhorn" tweet, so I think that means I can steal it and act like I thought of it myself.
Avatar 11:29pm

That's like what knowing your show is on is like, except opposite
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm

yes, i agree -- SO soothing/healing -- like music version of Trauma Informed Yoga :)

who is Lucas Brode ? this is really good bill frissell influence ?
  Swag For Life Member 11:35pm

That's the advantage of having the headphones on, Jack. I have no idea what's happening outside.
WFMU listener:

The whole debate was one big shit show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36pm

Thanks for the music tonight Ira. This drumming on the Lucas Brode piece has such an especially nice propulsion and phrasing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm
Chop Scott:

@Hoboken Jack: I live in perpetual fear of what I hear in my space whenever it rains.

Biden probably did some things tonight that Hillary would have been roasted for if she did it in 2016. But hey, some people's standards are what they are.

The one "who won?" poll i've seen seems like it's essentially a "who do you support" poll. So, if you're the candidate that's behind, you kinda want to not lose debates?

Oh my god that Reivers song is my new favorite song ever. Call Michael Shelley and tell him it’s a “Number One Hit!”
John L:

Just found the Lucas Brode on bandcamp. I'll order it this Friday. First Friday of every month the artist gets 100%. They have extended it to the end of the year.
Avatar 11:46pm

Was planning the same John. I'll probably spend over $100 on bands I've heard on this show. And they say artists don't make anything off of radio ;)

Hi Ira, I'm posting this a few days after this was broadcasted. I saw Yo La Tengo in Champaign, IL in September 2008. You dedicated your encore of Nuclear War to "the junior senator from Illinois". I love that you did that. That's a memory that always sticks with me.
