Gene Chandler makes up in coolness what he lacks in knowledge of British titles of peerage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm
myron feld:

The Gene Chandler cut, "Lost In My World" by the Outsiders and so on: DJ premium idea #453 -- Follow-up Songs That Are The Hit Songs Sideways. Or maybe that's been done.
  2:30pm
spurn:

Dennis -- don't know if you saw today -- they're making a movie of Ronnie Spector's life! Hoping you can play yourself...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm

very observant myron - and a swell idea! keep listening for more such stash! thanks Jeff! spurn! news we can use!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm

@myron feld: The title (and lead cut) for that premium comp: It's the Same Old Song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm
myron feld:

@Gaylord: Paydirt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm
Candy-O'67:

I can't wait for that movie to come out, spurn!!! Love Ronnie! Seen her here twice in Austin and she's always so, so good!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm
Gaylord Fields:

Taye Diggs will play me in the scene where Ronnie sings my favorite Ronettes song, "Do I Love You," over the 45 when I'm interviewing her during my show, even inserting my name in the lyrics: "Do I need Gaylord's arms around me"! That really happened.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm
Dennis Diken:

that is too much Gaylord!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm
Candy-O'67:

Gaylord, that's my favorite song of the Ronettes, too! Didn't know you interviewed or knew her. That is so amazing!! You be famous! Ha!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm
Dennis Diken:

Candy-O, were you at Ronnie's Austin show 12/17 with Wanda Jackson?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Dennis: I still can't believe it! Best day of my life (sorry, Kathleen)!

@Candy-O: I first met Ronnie years ago, and she is a beautiful person, as our host can certainly attest — even though her husband/manager Jonathan did buy the last veggie wrap out from under me when a bunch of us were stranded at the New Orleans airport post-Stomp one year. I forgive them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm
Woo:

Timi sounds like Gene Pitney here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm
Dennis Diken:

Woo - all the greats aspired to the heights of Pitney
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm
Dennis Diken:

here's your Pitney Woo...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm
Candy-O'67:

Great story, Gaylord! I can tell she is a lovely lady just from all the talking she does at her shows and I've heard her interviewed by Cousin Brucie, too. I was front row seeing her outside on New Year's Eve 2014 here in Austin. It was a small venue here, The Spider House Cafe and it was freezing and started to drizzle at the end of her set. Once everyone was packed in like sardines, it warmed up. It was a magical night!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm
Gaylord Fields:

Ahhhhhh, Pitney!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm
Dennis Diken:

hey Gaylord, let's do a deep Pitney trib show someday, huh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm
Woo:

Thank you for the Pitney!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm
Gaylord Fields:

YES!!! Absolutely! Count me in, Dennis!
Avatar 2:50pm
Reechie:

Wow, this was on my old cassette of Gene Pitney's "Big Sixteen Volume 2" when I was like five!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm
Dennis Diken:

you got it G! glad you dug Gene Woo & Reechie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm
Gaylord Fields:

In the '60s, Teddy Randazzo wrote a bunch of glittering Bacharach-ian songs for the Royalettes and Little Anthony/Imperials that I just flip for.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm
Dennis Diken:

yeah G, and the A-sides are good too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm
Gaylord Fields:

Haha — you tell no lies!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm
Dennis Diken:

G - indeed, TR rules. my high school speech class teacher Mr. Randazzo was a cousin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm
Woo:

Ann-Margrock!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm
Gaylord Fields:

How did anyone get any work done in Mr. Randazzo's class with you constantly asking him about his cousin's songs? :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm
Dennis Diken:

yeah Gaylord, I was going out of my head!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm
Gaylord Fields:

Then Mr. Randazzo kicked you out of the classroom for being disruptive, and you were on the outside looking in. That must have hurt so bad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm
Dennis Diken:

"better use my head" is what I was thinking Gaylord...
  3:04pm
blip:

Hey Dennis. This is getting to be a habit. Was there with Dennis in high school. Very disruptive
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm

Special guest appearance by Detective Joe Jitsu on "Byrd Avenue."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm

Convalescent Hippies might be the name of my new band. What a great track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm
myron feld:

@Gaylord: great catch!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm
myron feld:

Officer Heap O'Calorie can't be far behind.
Avatar 3:06pm
Reechie:

Okay, you're making me spend money now! Had to track down that Pitney CD just to get "Fool Killer"! Hadn't heard that one since I was a kid!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm
Mike Sin:

Side comment apropos of nothing -- I heard a lot of Mose Allison music before I ever saw a picture of him. After I saw pictures of him, I said to myself, "How could this guy have not have had a side career as an actor as the Russian spy in every '60s espionage movie?" Every picture of him sorta reminds me of that. Anyway, back to much more meaningful discussions about music! ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm
Gaylord Fields:

I love being in a group of people where everyone gets Dick Tracy cartoon show references.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm
Dennis Diken:

yeah Mike, heh! hey blip! Reechie, you won't be sorry, that's a fine Pitney comp. I dug Mumbles too...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm
myron feld:

Anyone old enough to remember The Chuck McCann Show? When it came time to play the Dick Tracy cartoon, he introed it with "Dick Tracy" by The Chants. Such a cool song.
www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm
Dennis Diken:

oh yes myron, indeed. remember his bit on Little Orphan Annie? I used to hang with Chuck at the coffee shop at Sportsmen's Lodge in Studio City. he "friended" me on FB!! may he RIP
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm
Gaylord Fields:

myron: I'm the right age and grew up in the right place to remember Chuck McCann (even when he wan on Clay Cole's show). Sandy Becker and Sonny Fox's Wonderama are also deep in my childhood memory banks, not to mention Captain Jack McCarthy and Officer Joe Bolton. I even remember Beachcomber Freakin' Bill!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm
myron feld:

Yes yes yes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm
Dennis Diken:

also myron - it was probably shtick but the cameramen shook the image as to suggest they were cracking up at Chuck! was the show called "Let's Have Fun"?
  3:20pm
blip:

I remember Laurel andHardy with Chuck McCann. Loved Stubby Kaye singing opening theme for Shenanigans
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm
myron feld:

I'm pretty sure Sonny Fox hosted Let's Have Fun as well as Wonderama. LHF was Saturday mornings, Wonderama Sundays.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm
Dennis Diken:

yeah G, and the Abbott & Costello show on the tube too at that time. talk about acid for the children!
  3:23pm
blip:

Stinky and Mike the cop!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm
Gaylord Fields:

DD, it's little wonder we've grown up to become such warped and twisted quasi-adults — aaaand loving it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm
myron feld:

Without the A&C show, I certainly wouldn't know what "Cavalleria Rusticana" is -- "allllright!"
Avatar 3:27pm
Reechie:

Always loved how the drummer had to vary the tempo to keep up with Paul Simon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm
Dennis Diken:

right Reechie!
  3:28pm
Mike Conroy:

Whatever happened to the biopic on Tom Wilson that Marshall Crenshaw was trying to put together?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm
Gaylord Fields:

Without A&C, I wouldn't have the welcome pleasure of the occasional person coming up to me and promising that they'll soon fork over their overdue rent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm
Gaylord Fields:

Anyone who upon meeting me makes a Sidney Fields joke to me rather than going for the low-hanging fruit of my first name is an automatic friend for life.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm

@Gaylord: rightfully so.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm
