Dallam Dougou's music is a unique hybrid of African, Hungarian and jazz elements.
"Dallam" means melody in Hungarian and "Dougou" means land
or city in a bunch of West African languages, such as Ouagadougou. The band just released its debut cd New
Destiny on the brand new Jumbie Records label. Jumbie launched with two other great
cds, a debut by the jazz-centered but worldly Imaginary Homeland and a special
live recording by the brilliant Ghanaian gyil (xylophone) player Bernard Woma and trio. (Click here to hear
Bernard Woma when he performed on this radio program in 2001)
Raul
Rothblatt (cello & bass; conceptual mastermind) – composer for dance and
film and author of many musical theatre pieces including The Little Mushroom. Member of Eletfa
Hungarian folk band, who bring the Hungarian tanchaz style (as you may know
from the band Muzsikas) to NY and NJ, and Jumbie Records co-founder.
