Hey there Lee -- Thanks for tuning in today!

Lee:

Dave Wakeling a great lyricist, in my opinion
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm
Mike Sin:

Matt from New Orleans -- All those '79/'80 bands and Two-Tone was my indeed my gateway!
  12:08pm
phat:

God I love Two-tone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm
Mike Sin:

Me too, Phat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I was too young for 2 Tone. I got into third wave ska in the mid 90s and then started digging back from there. Mostly skipped 2 Tone at that time as I wanted to listen to the OG stuff. Only started really listening in the last few years. I can appreciate the energy and enthusiasm but there’s no real emotional connection for me.
  12:10pm
phat:

@Matt from New Orleans I have the opposite experience with 3rd wave. It never sounded right to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm
Matt Clarke:

Mike, were you into the Two-Tone stuff as it was happening?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I don’t really listen to any third wave ska any more. I would still go see Fishbone. It’s more of a timing thing. I was an infant when 2 Tone was at its peak.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm
ike_p:

huh - so i should've looked up the lyrics to one step beyond a long time ago
  12:14pm
phat:

I saw Fishbone last year and I gotta say, they were incredible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Rhoda Dakar has a monthly radio show in the U.K. that’s really good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm
Matt Clarke:

@Matt: What station is it on?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm
Mike Sin:

I also saw many of those bands that fell between "classic" Two-Tone and full-on "third wave" -- I downright loved the Untouchables! They rolled into NYC in 1985 or so and and lifted the roof off Irving Plaza!
  12:15pm
davefromtoronto:

better than the original!
  12:17pm
phat:

Dave Wakeling tours incessantly, tells horrible jokes, and ROCKS HARD, still. Go see him if you can when all this shit ends.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm
Mike Sin:

@Matt -- Yeah. All those bands were accessible in the US even though they weren't as big as they were in the UK. I caught the English Beat back at that time -- so great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm
DJ Terre T:

Heya Mike -your show is sounding so great!
And I forgot how truly amazing the Beat's version of Tears of a Clown is !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm

LOL the Joya Landis tune--It was so weirdly incest-y +Freudian that I thought maybe it was just my sick mind going there-
Coz honestly who would do a song so preverted + think all was fine with it ?!!?
Great set DJ SOS!
