Poptart and ginger tea? Actually that sounds pretty good.

I will have some chicken soup in your honor, Juli. Wellness by proxy

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm
spodiodi:

gahhh that's one of the best, Julie yumm
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:05pm
Phillippe Bastille:

(notice we have four different spellings of poptart)
Avatar 🦇 3:05pm
Julie:

I picked this show only because it's 4 hours. It seems to have the old Dark Night feel to it
  3:06pm
Mr. Nobody:

Oh man I haven't had a brown sugar poptart in forever.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:06pm
Phillippe Bastille:

Yeah, it kind of is, Julie. That's what you get when you buy all your snacks at Ollie's Bargain Outlet

i'm pleased mine is the correct spelling "Pop-Tarts® Official Website" ;) ;)

spodi, Phillippe, how goes?
Avatar 🦇 3:09pm

i was looking forward to the witch thing :( I had almost the whole show ready but my body had other plans
  3:09pm

Oh man I just saw they have a limited release Frosted Sugar Cookie flavor. I may have to track that one down.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:10pm
Phillippe Bastille:

Good, Handy! Boat shopping. All I can afford is a 30 year old boat. They're still good, right? How are you?
Avatar 3:10pm
βrian:

I had a sore throat for ten minutes this morning, and I thought, Oh crap. Is this it? (I'm in Wisconsin, after all.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm
spodiodi:

Handy, busy as all get out, and only getting busier. end of the month will be a turning point, with way too much still left over (incl. Nov 3 action)... but taking it in stride/ad is comes (have i any other choice? [besides panic]) --- tl;dr: i'm good! i'm happy to be here listening with everyone :)

yahself?
  3:11pm
Mr. Nobody:

30 years old? Probably just a little heavier and slower than a newer model but hey if it floats you should be good to go right? lol
Avatar 🦇 3:11pm
Julie:

Brian I have had SO Many moments like that. One of the listeners here was like uh oh take your temperature. I get more worried when I have allergy attacks
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:13pm
Handy Haversack:

I just moved back inside. Getting cool out there for working. I need some sort of glove I can still type in, I guess.

What kind of boat, Phillippe? Motorized, I assume, but I guess how big are you looking?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm
spodiodi:

almost bought a mid (or late?) 60's Lapworth GLadiator a few years back, Phillippe -- i was excited that it was heavy (being made with too much fiberglss, before they know how little glass they could actually get away with) so cheers to your spring chicken boat shopping. 30 years ago was the 90s! that's like... yesterday :)
  3:14pm
Jay:

Exit Ghost has a bit of the Phantasm theme going on it sounds like.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm

i felt a cold coming on about a week ago, but it passed. every time my eyes itch, i'm sure i'm going down for the count, but so far, i've been mistaken (whew). hope whatever is buggin ya scoots along, Julie
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:19pm
Phillippe Bastille:

@Mr Nobody probably right. It's the motor I worry about. Handy, spodiodi I need something skiff-like as the water next to my dock is less than a foot deep spring/fall and mostly mud in the winter. No lift. My budget is 6K. Was looking to stay at around 17 ft. Found as 19 ft Carolina Skiff within my budget, but it seems drastically underpowered (50 hp). That old I'd like to get something with no wood in it.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:21pm
Handy Haversack:

Gotcha, Phillippe!
Avatar 3:22pm
βrian:

We used to have a 7.5 hp motor on our boat. We were in awe of the power.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:22pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Hello, Julie and dark souldiers.
Avatar 3:23pm
βrian:

No airboat, I presume.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:24pm
Phillippe Bastille:

βrian yeah, I have a 6 on my old jon boat. It's one of those old Lowes aluminum that weigh a ton, so the only wind you get in your hair when boating is when there really is wind.
  3:24pm
Mr. Nobody:

Hard to go wrong with a Carolina Skiff. 19 feet is a great size. The 50 is probably a bit undersized depending on what you plan on using it for and where but you might be surprised.
  3:26pm
Mr. Nobody:

The great thing about the Carolina Skiffs is they haven't changed their design too much. If the price is good go for it.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:26pm
Phillippe Bastille:

@Mr Nobody Yeah, I think it would be fine with maybe me and one or two others. Unbelievably, it is Coast Guard rated for 10 people. Lots of CS to choose from around here, but Annapolis being Annapolis, prices are overinflated.
  3:27pm
Mr. Nobody:

Lol none of mine have been newer than 30 years old when I bought them. If it was maintained well should be good.
Avatar 🦇 3:29pm
Julie:

I just received an official noise complaint about the birds. this week just keeps giving.
  3:29pm
Mr. Nobody:

Oh for sure. We had several that we used with the NPS down in Florida and their capacity was amazing.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:29pm
Phillippe Bastille:

Definitely looking for something simple and cheap that won't cost a ton if the motor needs replacing or a rebuild. I'm 5 years short of retirement and a major boat expense is not in the works once that hits.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:30pm
Handy Haversack:

Oof, Julie, so sorry to hear it.
  3:30pm
Mr. Nobody:

@Julie you just need to encourage them to start making other animal noises so when people complain about dogs, cats and other animals you can say you don't have them. lol
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:30pm
Phillippe Bastille:

@Julie I was on a webex with a customer who had birds chirping in the background. I was thinking about your bird-enhanced shows
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:31pm
Handy Haversack:

Julie, Michele said she was going to post the WFMUO'LANTERN at some point today, so that's pretty cool!
Avatar 🦇 3:32pm

oh that is neat that o lantern was awesome
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:32pm

Hah! Some of the regulars on the Drummer stream. Just as I suspected.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm
spodiodi:

aye yi yi, Julie... birds!?... i mean (most) birds sound pleasant to me. yours always make me smile when i hear 'em. your neighbors can have my neighbor's dog here instead that is left out to bark at night and ~6am (i think he's barking at the deer)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:33pm
xtrakrispy:

I just figured out how to add these streams via TuneIn to my Onkyo receiver. Truly life changing.
Avatar 🦇 3:33pm
Julie:

they can get kinda screechy. Now that there's less boxes absorbing the sound I'm not surprised the sound is getting worse.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:34pm
Handy Haversack:

Nice, xtrakrispy!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:34pm
Phillippe Bastille:

Handy, speaking of birds, we had a white breasted nuthatch this AM and a second visit from a marsh hawk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm
spodiodi:

kinda related... noticed the smaller of the two bucks here had developed a limp (assuming Security Bagpipehad nothing to do with it though ;) he seems a little bette, since a few days have passed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm
spodiodi:

holy crap i love Die Antwoord ... Yolandi Visser <3
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:35pm
Handy Haversack:

We have bluejays around here -- your neighbors should be locked in a room with a few of *those* if they think your birds are loud.

Cool, Phillippe! Saw a junco today, the titmouse, a fox sparrow (I think), and a mockking bird.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm
spodiodi:

first hearing of them here on FMU. happy day. thank you, Julie!
  3:36pm
Mr. Nobody:

Oh goodness. We went through a period where I'm not sure Mrs. Nobody listened to much other than Die Antwoord.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
chris:

sheesh, Julie. yeah, was just going to volunteer the Jay family that lives in the hedge across the road, but Handy beat me to it.
Avatar 3:37pm
βrian:

We have F-16s here, and soon, F-35s. Those birds can make some noise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm
spodiodi:

Western Blue Birds were the first i noticed here at our new place. one greeted us, and i see him in the same tree every day ... plenty of others too, but i'm ignint as to whcih types
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm
spodiodi:

i need to find a cheap camera that isn't my nuisancephone
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:38pm
Phillippe Bastille:

We have a lot of jays, but they aren't particularly noisy. The herons and kingfishers, that's a different story
  3:39pm
Mr. Nobody:

I got a good chuckle when she subjected her mother and siblings to listening to Die Antwoord while captive in her car. None of the mellow songs like this one either. It was amusing since that wasn't really their taste in music.
Avatar 3:39pm
Sylvia (France-NYC):

Good evening Julie, and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm
spodiodi:

i miss seeing herons around your area, Phillippe -- they frequented the inlet behind my family's property
  3:39pm

I can't get ALexa to play drummer anymore it's really frustrating
  3:40pm
Sean in Bristol, UK:

Bonsoir, Sylvia
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:41pm
Phillippe Bastille:

@spodiodi we have as BIG one in our cove that we refer to as "our heron". We'll get smaller ones passing through and the occasional egret but he runs 'em all off, and not quietly either.
Avatar 🦇 3:41pm
Julie:

oh yes Sean thank you I managed to order one. I hear she's on Prog shortly soon, not sure if that is a UK or US mag.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm
spodiodi:

i only recently checked-out Tune In (on a tv, which isn't a very practical way to listen) -- i still need to hook up The System in our Great (haha) Room... best sound i have now is at The Desk (it's just an aging "free" dell 3-piece, but it beats laptop speakers!)
Avatar 3:43pm
Sylvia (France-NYC):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm

Mr. Nobody, i still feel bad for my old neighbors the couple of months after i'd discovered Die Antwoord :"
  3:46pm
Stanley:

Me neither, Julie, so I have it playing from my phone to Alexa as Bluetooth.
And hello everyone
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:46pm
Phillippe Bastille:

@spodiodi no human gliders...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm
spodiodi:

and for gliders here, i've noticed a large bird of prey (i'm assuming) that's hangs out circling/hunting at different elevations -- no shortage of squirrels and other bird. i i think it MIGHT be an american eagle (did i mention i'm loking for a cheap camera?) should have some better stories/info when that happens
Avatar 🦇 3:47pm

it USED to work I would always have it on to monitor to the crossover. TUNEIN still plays WFMU proper fine but not drummer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm

PB, i'm not sure from where they were taking off, but used to see them almost daily over my grandfolks place/horse field
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:48pm
Phillippe Bastille:

@spodiodi That's cool! We have an eagle that hangs out on the other side of the river. My niece visited Sunday and I was telling her about him and on cue he flew by.

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:50pm

yeah, I kinda feel like I should pay him
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm
spodiodi:

i know that airport, i flew a cessna from that airport over the Naval Academy and annapolis-ish on my 14th bday (thanks, Dad, rip -- was a total surprise... we just rode up to the airport and got in some old guy's plane... he let me take the controls once we were in the air) great memory
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:51pm
Handy Haversack:

Julie, I think the music level might be pretty low? Anyone else notice that? I just flipped between the two streams, and it's pretty noticeable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm
spodiodi:

PB, they may have been taking off from there (the gliders) but i assumed there must be something even closer
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:52pm
Phillippe Bastille:

@spodiodi -- that's great! I'm sure you'd get shot down on that flight path now

what are the odds that I'd be getting a house in a town called Pleasant Valley
Avatar 🦇 5:21pm
Julie:

I have to go downstairs before my food melts. Sylvia, you're in charge :D
Avatar 5:21pm

Marginally better than getting one in Pheasant Valley, I suspect.

But where is Pleasant Valley, anyway?

Righteous pick - love The Soft Boys & this song especially

Late to the party today but tuned in now, Julie! An archived show, is that right?
Avatar 🦇 5:47pm

heya SMS! it is but I am here live. I'm quite sick, I tried and hoped I could do a new one but even just typing the playlist has been a challenge.

My pleasure, Julie.
Super pick for the show and how nice it is to be reminded of Studio C, Monty Hall and good times. I raise my glass to you all at WFMU and all the wonderful and generous listeners. Slainte

maybe do a total decadent show
Avatar 🦇 6:09pm
Julie:

I have been debating my best course of action. I wanted to leave town, possibly visit my dad in the country but I fear hearing from trumpy relatives. I've decided to hide in my apartment with an equally concerned male friend. My neighborhood is safer than his anyway.
Avatar 🦇 6:09pm
Julie:

I asked what he would be doing and he was like, I don't know but there will be alcohol. I think it's better not to be alone. But what is a "decadent show?"

I'm amused picturing your father living in a "rough part of town"

  6:25pm
David in London:

Well, with a wet autumn that’s now set in it’s not the city at its best Julie, but we’re hanging in there. I’ve started going to the cinema again, and that’s been a real joy. I have a relatively new independent cinema near me, and it’s such a nice place to be, even before you’ve seen a film.
Avatar 🦇 6:26pm

ohhhh movies...I miss them. I could go to Jersey City to see one but I don't feel safe yet
Avatar 🦇 6:29pm

Avatar 🦇 6:33pm

it was a really STUPID name for a band I don't know who picked it
Avatar 6:35pm
Juurakkotukka:

Yep. :) I am writing my thesis while listening to your amazing tunes. But the sound on my computer was really low so I did not catch the english first. :D And I was translating some George A. Romero interviews. Forgive me. :D I really thought for a second it was some korean singer who sounded just like Amos. :D

Sylvia, is Emilie a big deal in France?
Avatar 6:44pm
Sylvia (France-NYC):

not in a popular sense, and also French people have a tendency to despise their peers’ success
Avatar 🦇 6:45pm

She's very creative. I figure she'd be like the French Bjork.

Avatar 🦇 6:47pm
Julie:

Thank you, Ken! I'm afraid we won't even know until long after Tuesday really :/
Avatar 6:48pm
Sylvia (France-NYC):

yeah, that’s how I see her. She’s won music prizes, she’s well known within a circle of music specialists (listeners and journalists) I think. Contrary to Iceland which celebrates its artists, France always tells you you’re not good enough and your accomplishments are not that big of a deal
Avatar 🦇 6:49pm

i expect election day itself to be worrisome for non-evil types (as supporters of the thing that shouldn't be named are more likely to vote in person) *sigh* so brace yourselves! it's going to be a long, drawn out battle no matter what
Avatar 6:51pm
Sylvia (France-NYC):

oh yes, like it’s happening with Aya Nakumura right now. She’s super successful worldwide now, I think, yet she doesn’t get the attention she deserves in France. Also, she’s a woman of color.

i'm afraid i'm guilty of that same "good, but" thing -- holding myself to that same "standard" more than anyone else (but, i recognize it's deflating)... and was thinking "i should move to France!" when it first came up here from Sylvia's comment.
