This Baja is classic but I 1st hear it done by "the Blue Hawaiians" and its a fave..
Avatar 6:25pm

Ah, I have't heard that one. Gotta check that out! They're a newer band, right?

Hey all! Yes, used to see The Blue Hawaiians at Hollywood’s late great tiki bar The Lava Lounge.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm

The Blue Hawaiians did some of the music for Sponge Bob Square Pants.

Did they also have a Xmas album? I feel like that seems right.

They did! Cool stuff. One of the first things we ever ordered off Amazon, when that was a new novelty.
Avatar 6:31pm
shangri-lounge:

Niiice. Yes, I think I've maybe included them on a Spotify playlist, previously.
Avatar 6:31pm

Mr Fab, I'm jealous of your tiki bar travels. Mine are very limited being based in NYC.

Would love to take you (all) on a tiki bar crawl one day. There are even three tiki joints with in a few miles of my Van Nuys crib.

Sheena's should rent a magic bus, and we can do shows from the road, stopping at various tiki bars along the way, broadcasting from those too.

@Martinibomb: Is the tiki bar on Interstate, The Alibi Room still around that you know of? Or did covid and the Boojie hipster occupation kill it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm
Rich in Washington:

I used to run things to and from the print shop across the street and stop there for 'lunch'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm
Rich in Washington:

Selda!
  6:39pm
Martinibomb:

The Alibi is up and running or was.. I've seen people there. They set up an outdoor section. BUT - they never had a great outdoor space tho. I think they should take over the car lot on the other side - dunno why they aren't
  6:40pm
Martinibomb:

My roommate's band Galaxy Trio played there in the 90s before Karaoke killed the Alibi for DJs and Bands. That was a KILLER show. I have photos
Avatar 6:44pm
shangri-lounge:

the tiki bar resurgence -especially here- is just a bunch of tropical cocktail bars. generally speaking. abe's pagoda bar in Bushwick is a very good exception to that rule, I would say.
Avatar 6:45pm
shangri-lounge:

But I wanna travel to some OG spots. Maybe in the next couple of years. I hope!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm
Rich in Washington:

I haven't been in there in over a decade, but I thought The Alibi had a wonderful tiki atmosphere, at least decor-wise.
Avatar 6:46pm
shangri-lounge:

there is this website. from this guy. tiki with ray. www.tikiwithray.com
Avatar 6:47pm
shangri-lounge:

and i live vicariously through him. and his home bar spotlights. but i wish he'd wear a mask a bit more...
  6:52pm
Martinibomb:

Hale Pele is the one I'm worried will close. The Alibi looks cool etc.. and they have karaoke plus it can get wild in there. BUT the drinks SUCK and terrible food. Hale Pele on the other hand... voted best tiki drinks in the USA and I agree. Super good! And the food is by this Hawaiian guy that used to have a cart in my hood. Super good! ANd they have a volcano that goes off every :30min. I love it.
  6:53pm
Martinibomb:

That's where I like to go for special occasions etc.. etc..
Avatar 6:53pm

This is making me too jelly. Keep all your favs to yourself. (Jk, please continue to share.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm

the reasonable solution is to give me all of of jeff bozo's "net worth", and he can have mine. then i will keep these places afloat until they become profitable again.
i'll start a petition.

Abe's Pagoda, ha, now I get it.

Do you know that there are no pictures in existence of a young Abe Vigoda? I actually tried to find one. He was born old. That's the only explanation.

Mr Fab:

weird hearing the non-remixed version of this.

Written by the recently-deceased Mac Davis.

there once was an ice-cream/smoothie/juice bar here that had the best ice-cream on earth. (i know this because i really don't care about ice-cream and hadn't eaten it in years until i tried hers) several of them had fresh liquor in them, the bottles of which would sometimes be brought from under the counter when there wasn't actually any ice-cream being made.
