Hi folks! Since March when the world shut down, WFMU has worked tirelessly to ensure that we keep broadcasting 24/7. DJs have set up home studios while our "skeleton crew" keeps it all together in the main studio.

WFMU continues to be a source of comfort for many during these very trying times -- Let us know you appreciate it by pledging! Please use the pledge "widget" at the top of this playlist page if you've been enjoying this show.

All donations -- any amount -- are so greatly appreciated!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am Mike Sin:

Hi Matt! No cover today -- feel free to walk right in! ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am Matt Clarke:

Excellent! I'm pretty broke from buying all that discounted candy at CVS
Avatar 12:03pm Marc Francis:

Howdy Mike! Howdy Matt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Mike Sin:

Hey there Marc Francis!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Matt Clarke:

Hey Marc! How ya doin?
Avatar 12:05pm Mailman Tom:

Hi Mike! I noticed that all the remote programs make the DJs sound as if they were broadcasting from the bottom of an empty well. I guess that can't be helped. I'm just thankful that WFMU is still on the air!

Hi to Mike Sin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Mike Sin:

Hi Mailman Tom! That reverb you are hearing is a special brew created especially for WFMU's Rock'n'Soul Radio stream!

Hey Frankie. How was your Halloween?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Mike Sin:

Frankie! Hey there, man!
  12:09pm Lee:

Hey Mike, and everyone, this Paragons track is one of my all-time favourites. U-Roy does a great version also.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Matt Clarke:

Hey there Lee!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Matt Clarke:

Always good to hear the Pioneers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Mike Sin:

Hi Lee! Thanks for listening! I'll have to check and see if I have U-Roy version.
Avatar Ranking Full Stop - Top Ranker! Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Frank In Queens:

@Matt, uneventful, just the way I like it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Matt Clarke:

@Frank: Same!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Mike Sin:

Halloween around here was pretty cool. Folks just filled the trunks of their cars with candy, left them open, and just let the kids walk around and "self serve." I thought I was going to throw the candy off my porch to the kids like a reverse Mardi Gras or some such.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Matt Clarke:

@Mike Sin: Ha! Jawbreakers would take on a whole new meaning if you did that
Avatar 12:20pm Marc Francis:

I used to love playing this at the bar I DJ'd at. Goddamn pandemic...
Avatar 12:23pm Joe B:

hey Mike, sounding great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Mike Sin:

@Marc -- This show is keeping me digging deep through all my ska and rocksteady comps and record every week. It's cool because there is so much that I "forgot about" in way. It's forcing me to really listen closely!
Avatar Ranking Full Stop - Top Ranker! Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Frank In Queens:

My special concoction, which has no name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Mike Sin:

Aw, come on Frankie, just say it -- it's pasta fagioli!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Matt Clarke:

Great mixture today, Mikey! I'd go trick or treating at your house!
Avatar Ranking Full Stop - Top Ranker! Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Frank In Queens:

Olive oil, onion, garlic, carrots, and fennel are required. Then you can use either turnips or potatoes. Crushed red pepper, salt, thyme. Saute it all then add water and boil until soft. Then add about 4 fresh plum tomatoes diced and cook until the start to soften. Then add white beans, and a green; ideally broccoli rabe, but lacinato kale will have to suffice tonight. Add the finishing touch which is a 1/3rd of a cup of polenta and cook for another few minutes. That's it!
  12:33pm phat:

Did he just sing about Nebraska? Never would have expected that.
Avatar 12:33pm Marc Francis:

@ Mike Sin: It's definitely translating into great and interesting sets week to week!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Matt Clarke:

Sounds fantastic, Frank

<yawn, stretch> What time is it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Matt Clarke:

Haha, hey DJ SOS!
Avatar 12:35pm Joe B:

yes the houston/wynette version was No. 1 on the country chart in 1967
Avatar Ranking Full Stop - Top Ranker! Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Frank In Queens:

Oh and then freshly ground black pepper on top upon serving.
Avatar 12:36pm Joe B:

though she re-recorded it with george jones in the 70s. while not a hit chart-wise, that might be the better known version these days
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Mike Sin:

All right! An original Frankie recipe posted to the playlist! So much value here!

Hello Miles of Middle Texas -- thanks for being here!
Avatar 12:41pm Joe B:

further internet sleuthing looks like Bobby Vinton had the biggest pop hit with my elusive dreams in 1970. not sure I recall his version.
Avatar 12:41pm Dave the Spazz:

Excellent show today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Mike Sin:

Hey Joe B -- the only version of My Elusive Dreams I had heard previously was a Charlie Rich version!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Mike Sin:

Hi johnk77!
  12:44pm johnk77:

peace & respect @ selecter
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Mike Sin:

Hey Dave the Spazz -- thanks very much, man!
Avatar 12:46pm Joe B:

Charlie had a huge hit with it in 1975, no. 3 country. I don't know it. Surprised it wasn't bigger on the pop charts considering how big he was the previous 2 years
  12:53pm phat:

Yes. I believe it was
  12:54pm phat:

Ah yes, that was the cover! Makes more sense
  12:54pm phat:

I'm in Lincoln, too! Who is Rick? Yikes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Matt Clarke:

Excellent choices today, Mikey! Thanks to DJ SOS for that spooky tune!
