Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

Bronwyn Bishop:

Fun fact: In this show we have heard from both major actors to play Edward Rutledge in 1776 (the nasty Southerner who sings the scary slavery song). Clifford David played him in the original Broadway cast and John Cullum played him in the movie. Strangely, Clifford David is a tenor and John Cullum is a baritone!
Avatar 8:29pm
NoBucks:

I can't think of that song sung by a tenor. Interesting!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

Here's the original: www.youtube.com...

What's funny is that baritones love to claim it as one of the great baritone songs, but the actual notes are tenor notes, they just think of it that way because Cullum is a baritone (I think they cast him because he was the only Broadway star with an *actual* patrician Southern accent)

and now here's my third favorite lyricist Yip Harbug KILLING IT
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

this song was a question on my 11th grade AP US History test, that's how much it impacted society (go YIP! and the composer I guess)
Avatar 8:53pm
NoBucks:

Did you get the answer right? ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

I'm sure I did, considering I was the only kid in my class to get a 5 out of 5 on that dang test (the others all got 3s and 2s)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

And then my teacher made me go in front of the incoming AP class at the beginning of the next year and share my words of wisdom which boiled down to "uh study and read the book"
Avatar 8:57pm
NoBucks:

LOL. Words of wisdom.

I once had a social psychology class, and every week there was a quiz on the current chapter. So I read the chapter right before class, it worked splendidly!

Fun fact that I recently found out: this is the guy who played the racist cop in The People vs. OJ. Bet you didn't know HE could sing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

I love how someone like Steven Pasquale (or Christian Borle, or Norbert Leo Butz, or whoever) can be a HUGE Broadway star and then we cheer for them when they get the tiniest roles on TV

Jud definitely voted for Trump. Sadly Curly, Laurey & Aunt Eller's Biden votes weren't enough for Oklahoma to turn blue

It's been a long day. Making spaghetti and archive listening. Glad to see your program reached the donation goal. Deserves more, but I expect that will grow.

WR:

Wonderful concept program. Will listen again when not so tired so I can hold it all in my brain at once.

Alfred Drake had many significant roles. He is yet an enigma to me.

Note that overalls are my default daily wear even when not going to a carnival amusement fair.
