Olivia, weren’t your last guest appearances here during the earliest days of the quarantine? Those were great, too —and I am struck by how much darker this one is. What a difference half a year makes …

see salt and vinegar bath for me. i'll come out smelling like a potato chip.

@Ultradamno: Yeah, can't get a decent quote for my soul these days. Those demons and evangelicals are running out of money
  6:32pm
GListener MW:

I’ve never heard this show as I’m usually not home from work at this hour — but this is amazing!
Avatar 6:32pm
olivia:

hahaha yes, I was thinking the same thing, ron-ji. My last episode wasback in March, VERY early quarantine days, so obsessed with finding levity, whereas this episode is the flipside of that, digging into the negativity
Avatar 6:33pm
olivia:

welcome, Glistener MW!This is just a one time edition. I'm filling in for Micah's show tonight!
Avatar 6:35pm
Marshall Stacks:

Warm tingling waves: that would be the vinegar reacting with the Epsom salts.
  6:35pm
GListener MW:

Ah!, well, thank you for it! :) I feel like this mix of samples and ambience would be very easy/lazy to do abrasively, but I’m finding this incredibly calm and therapeutic
  6:36pm
ron-ji:

Glistener, this is an atypical episode (guest DJ) but the “usual” ones are also outstanding and addictive. Assuming you have a high tolerance for “music” that would be unlistenable under any other circumstances, that is. This is a good gateway episode.
Avatar 6:36pm
Fox:

Ugh. I have every single one of those symptoms and a life of trauma. I should see a psych, I guess!
  6:38pm

Olivia, safe to say we’re ready for it by now. This is making me want to revisit those after I replay this one when I am able to fully listen.

@ron-ji: "music" that would be unlistenable is basically WFMU's mission statement. What do you got?
  6:40pm
toddy boar:

@fred !!!!!
  6:40pm
ron-ji:

Just last night I caught part of a not-very-good 2014 semi-horror movie called THE QUIET ONES that was right in line with tonight’s focus. Olivia Colman plays a woman (loosely based on an actual case from the 70s) who is either mentally ill or actually possessed.
  6:42pm
ron-ji:

Touché, Fred. But MMC pushes the FMU envelope. Which is a manilla folder at the very least.
  6:42pm
toddy boar:

I wish horror movies worked on me
  6:43pm
toddy boar:

Does anybody have any suggestions?

GET OUT is a good one (thinking of it now because i played a clip from it earlier)

Avatar 6:45pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm
dale:

define horror. i like 50s b movies like 'them' and 'the giant gila monster'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm
ultradamno:

Get Out (It Follows is another) where the first time I saw it I knew I was looking at a classic that would become a referred to touchstone. Us is a great film too, though not so much a watershed moment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm
fred:

Which beats sounding like Nicolas Cage
Avatar 6:47pm
slugluv1313:

YES! Get Out and Us are both AMAZING
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm
ultradamno:

I actually think the '10s were really good for horror. Also, on TV, especially Channel Zero. Kind of prepping for now.
Avatar 6:49pm
slugluv1313:

i also really enjoyed Hereditary and The VVitch
and of course i love the really old horror films -- black and white, from the 30s, 40s
  6:50pm
toddy boar:

lol I love Nicolas Cage's face. It's so irritating
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm

Back when shows were a thing, one of my fave places had a Cage quote in front: I am trying to be unfamiliar with what I'm doing. There's some wisdom in that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm

I meant John, not Nicolas

I am embarrassed by how long it took me to get the Nicholas/John Cage joke, Fred. In my defense, our brains have all been through a lot this last hour/week/year.
