	4:31pm Honeybear: In NYC it was easy to celebrate - the whole city (Manhattan anyway) was basically one big party
	♥ 4:31pm Handy Haversack: I was pretty much confined to quarters, Cha Cha, but Kate was on her way to run a people's theater group in a park when the race was called, and that park turned into a giant party. Very little people's theater was accomplished, but there's always next week.
	4:32pm Julie: Not as much down here. There was a short burst then nothing. I stayed in but it was fun watching the videos.

	4:34pm northguineahills: I was in a rest area when the Biden announcement was made. Then I went that night to my bros. Who voted for Trump. So, no celebration por moi. But I did drive 150 miles and sleep in parking lots, but FL still failed us. At least minimum wage is being raised.

	4:50pm Honeybear: "I've been dissed and treated as an outsider for being (midwestern/southern, high-school educated, downsized / underemployed, or even gay/non-white). Then this guy Trump comes along, who's also an 'outsider' of sorts. Therefore, he 'gets' me and feels my pain."
	4:51pm northguineahills: @Honeybear: he was drunk and mad that night, but yes, he has no problem w/ the outcome (his twin was much more level-headed). They are socially liberal but fiscally conservative. Outside of an older cousins, I’m the only non-GOPer in the family.

	4:55pm Honeybear: I also went home early on Sat nite (as I do most nites - primarily to limit my virus exposure; also because there's just not that much to do in NYC these days after hours, except the usual outdoor binge-drinking). As things went on, it was kind of like any other night...

I get really scarted when I hear people here saying that now things can go back to "normal" or "the way it was" -- since the way it was was surveillance and extractive capitalism run wild and unchecked official violence against people of color. The status quo is evil. Hopefully enough people understand that now the REAL work begins. (sorry, I try not to get too heavy. Just ... times are heavy.)

	4:57pm Dean: My politics are, for lack of a better word, meta. I remain very, very afraid about the future, maybe more so now that people with competence will be at the helm. I do not invest energy in the symbolic virtues of our leaders. In fact, I am skeptical of leadership per se. Celebrate, sure, but stay wary and highly critical of not the person, but the office.

	4:59pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000: since you mentioned memories associated to music, I can still remember 11 year old me taping the series "Live at the Beeb" off Finnish radio to rather horrible Fuji tapes and of course the tape ended during this Floyd instrumental, Murderotic Woman, and I quickly had to turn over the tape, furious at missing a segment of the track.., so yes, even at a young age I was a music nerd.

I sure don't begrudge people that! And sometimes I wish I could work up some hope ... but you don't need hope to keep trying to do the work.

True Finns (a right-wing populist party) came so close winning instead of social democrats on the last parliament election, so I would not be surprised if they won next time, to be followed by a much worse government.
	5:14pm Julie: some people think the flip flopping between sides is a good thing, keeping us from going too far to either side but lately lives are on the line
	5:15pm C.S.: It's interesting who divided we all are. Could the internet be blamed? We don't seem to be talking to each other anymore. We seem to be talking at each other.

	5:16pm Julie: yes and no. I was having face to face massive fights with my older sister before social media really took hold.
	5:17pm Julie: I'm sure we've been this divided before. The 60s for one. the civil war for another.

	5:18pm Dean: Among the "some people" who so think, the founding fathers, for better or worse. For a good time, read the notes from the constitutional conventions. We can blame the internet, but I don't think we're all that divided. Division makes for good news. Proscriptions against talk about religion or politics are ancient! I also don't think our federal government is all that divided. There's a ton of bipartisan work getting done, but again, doesn't make the headlines.

	5:19pm Sylvia (France-NYC): before, you would feel quite alone in a room with your racist and sexist family. now, you know they’re the problem, not you. with internet, we can talk with and learn from so many different people.

	5:21pm C.S.: Well, I have liberal and conservative friends and I do think we are that divided. The hate coming from both sides...the arrogance and sense of superiority. All backed up with sensational Facebook posts meant to inflame passions rather than inform or persuade. And now we are calling for unity? I don't think it will happen.
	5:22pm Sylvia (France-NYC): they’re afraid of anything different. they are unable to look deep down and face their darkness, because it’s scary and uncomfortable.
	5:23pm Honeybear: I do blame the internet for: (1) favoring superficiality / "meme-driven" communication (2) making it easy for people (myself included) to "self-isolate" in a bubble of news sources they prefer / trust (3) an inherent tendency to magnify perceived slights (and outright insults) due to the simple lack of shared physical presence and spontaneity
	5:23pm Dean: Unity doesn't happen at the national level. To some extent, that's a feature, not a bug. Unity belongs in the politics that is local. And, per our feminist forerunners, personal.
	5:24pm C.S.: There was plenty of national unity during WW II and just after 9-11. It is possible. Local unity might be harder because different regions often think differently from each other.

	♥ 5:43pm Handy Haversack: Bandcamp has standards for the file type and quality of the uploads -- you can't just toss MP3s on there. So ... I can see variation in volume happening among different artists, but I don't think we're being sold a bill of goods.
	5:43pm C.S.: @ Julie yes, a lot of those singles that she put up for preview have gone. Dark Branches in Rain, You Are Sleep Walking, the original version of Strange Buildings...and many more.

	5:48pm Debbie Downer Cha Cha 2000: I do hope there are not that many mp3's or other lossy files sold as lossless (wav, flac etc.) - that does happen maybe at some fraudster sites, but I hope the artists check the audio before uploading to bandcamp. That said, I don't mind my regular dose of lo-fi, when intentional of course.
	5:52pm C.S.: Also hate it when an artist will put a track up on Bandcamp but then won't make it available for purchase because it was a demo, previously unreleased, etc.

	5:57pm C.S.: David Vanian from The Damned had a project called the Phantom Chords and their first album which I thought was nice remains unreleased by Polydor as an acetate. A shame when good music is held hostage and in danger of disappearing forever.

	6:40pm Dean: I'll share here as I've shared more than once on a WFMU comment board that Patricia Morrison, one-time bass player for SoM and current spouse of Dave Vanian, mentioned upstream, used to drop by the record store where I worked in the late '70s. I, in turn, used to swing by the cosmetics counter at a department store in town where she worked. She was playing at the time with The Bags. Great band, really nice young lady.

By ...And Then There Were Three I was wearying of Collins-only Genesis, though I have the double live album they did around this time, and I only ever saw them live without Gabriel. I'm a big Lamb and Selling England fan, but also of the stuff from the beginning. Buddy of mine had a record store whose motto was Selling Records by the Pound. Patricia did appear with the Damned, though, didn't she?

I also don't think our federal government is all that divided. There's a ton of bipartisan work getting done, but again, doesn't make the headlines.
