@NGH: You always bring that aura of adventure!

It's kind of gloomy in Madison right now.

hi Brian!

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:13pm WR:

The crowd clapping to Tuesday Afternoon would have been a total buzz kill if I was there. Maybe.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:15pm sim:

@WR. It's about being a part of it. But many audiences are horrible for keeping time.
Avatar 3:16pm βrian:

As sage as she is, rosemary can't keep thyme.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:17pm sim:

@brian. groan
Avatar 3:17pm Honeybear:

That crowd sounded "engineered-in" to my ears - hence the buzz kill? but who knows

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Julie:

hiya Honeybear!

Avatar 3:23pm Honeybear:

@julie - been deprived of (realtime) access to your show for far too long, due to lack of regular internet access. happy to have fixed that!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Julie:

great news honeybear!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Handy Haversack:

Julie, after you played Drivin' N Cryin' by my request, I idly wondered whether I had missed any DNC releases over the years. Which was quickly followed by "DNC has a website? DNC has a webstore?!" and then a large envelope making its way north. Both T-shirt and beer koozie are Waffle House-themed, so I consider this a win on every front.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Julie:

haha that's always fun finding that kinda stuff
  3:32pm northguineahills:

Sold the backend of my Rs of my Recs, got $200 so far. Will put a link in my profile when things are more stable (trying to decide w/ my friend via FaceTime is taking forever.
  3:35pm northguineahills:

Peter Schilling reminds me Deutschland 89 is on again (sequel to 86 and 83) on Sundance. (Major Tom is the theme song)
  3:37pm johnzo:

Justin Beiber's dead?
  3:37pm johnzo:

sorry misheard that. my b
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Handy Haversack:

Huh, ngh, I didn't even realize there was an 86! Thanks for the tip.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Julie:

wait, what even is that?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Handy Haversack:

A Cold War espionage thriller TV show set in Germany, Julie.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:46pm Julie:

oooh that sounds fun
Avatar 3:49pm Honeybear:

repose en paix, france
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:50pm dreamyandseedy:

I have a suggestion for a bonus hour, I was thinking about Sheila B's special where she played music released by women when they were over 50. It would be interesting to hear something like that with your taste in music! Wouldn't have to be only women, obv whatever you want :)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:51pm Julie:

hmm that's an interesting idea dreamy, thanks!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Handy Haversack:

I had a much lamer idea: songs about clothes.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Julie:

oooh handy I kinda love that though
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:54pm dreamyandseedy:

i also still want songs where there is humming, lol more difficult perhaps
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Julie:

yeah that's a tricky one..I may just have to start noting down when it turns up in a song and gather stuff for a long period
  3:58pm Dean:

Humming or whistling or inarticulate sounds (as in every other Katy Perry tune)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:58pm dreamyandseedy:

hahaha i know it's an annoying request, sorry ;) i just always notice humming and i like it
i hope you decided to do a 1970 show! that will be amazing
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Julie:

Dean or early Cocteau Twins.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Julie:

yes that's gonna be fun!
  4:04pm northguineahills:

I have jalapeños, but no knife to put them on my sandwich. I know, I’ll take a bite of the jalapeño then one out of the sandwich!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Julie:

Avatar 4:04pm Honeybear:

Obligatory mention: every episode of Deutschland 83-89 had a custom playlist -- and the playlist for episode 2 of Deutschland 83 ("Brave Guy") was mixed by none other than WFMU Generalsekretär Ken Freedman
  4:05pm northguineahills:

If you like 80s Berlin culture, you’d like the Deutschland series.....
Avatar 4:05pm Honeybear:

(and is supposedly available on spotify somewhere, for what that may be with)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:06pm Handy Haversack:

I had *no idea*, Honeybear! Dag! Thanks.
  4:06pm Mark R:

Love this Low album!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Julie:

hiya Mark! good to see ya
Avatar 4:08pm Honeybear:

neither did I; nor did I have any knoweldge of the (apparently must-see) 83-89 series until a few minutes ago (which is what happens when one watches next to no television for 30 years)
Avatar 4:23pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

A good Dark Night to you all.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Julie:

heya Cha Cha!
Avatar 4:25pm βrian:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Julie:

Incel theme song?
Avatar 4:27pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Julie, special thanks for playing that Low track - and before that one, that mighty Legendary Pink Dots track. That. Was. A W E S O M E.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Julie:

glad you liked them! I've heard about Low for years but never really listened to them.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Handy Haversack:

Hey there, Photocopy Cha Cha!
Avatar 4:30pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@4:28 Handy Haversack: Good afternoon Handy, how are you doing? Did you have a proper (well, within COVID-19 restrictions) "Bye Trump" party the past weekend?
Avatar 4:31pm Honeybear:

In NYC it was easy to celebrate - the whole city (Manhattan anyway) was basically one big party
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Handy Haversack:

I was pretty much confined to quarters, Cha Cha, but Kate was on her way to run a people's theater group in a park when the race was called, and that park turned into a giant party. Very little people's theater was accomplished, but there's always next week.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Julie:

Not as much down here. There was a short burst then nothing. I stayed in but it was fun watching the videos.
Avatar 4:32pm Honeybear:

(I do exaggerate there - but only slightly)
  4:34pm northguineahills:

I was in a rest area when the Biden announcement was made. Then I went that night to my bros. Who voted for Trump. So, no celebration por moi. But I did drive 150 miles and sleep in parking lots, but FL still failed us. At least minimum wage is being raised.
  4:35pm northguineahills:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Julie:

good for you NGH!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Julie:

I think this might be the first time I've played them!
Avatar 4:35pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@4:28 Julie: While I have seen both LPD and Low live (the latter twice as it happens) I am ashamed to say I have no (physical) releases from either fine group. I am considering whether to send some monsky to both, come next bandcamp friday, Legendary Pink Dots at least have a lot of albums out there.
  4:36pm northguineahills:

(I always vote no matter the obstacles).
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Julie:

the guitar on this is HOT, not what I expected from them
Avatar 4:36pm Honeybear:

@ngh - has your brother "accepted" the outcome yet?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Julie:

LPD has a million releases for sure
Avatar 4:38pm Honeybear:

A downside to living in NYC (and in decidely blue areas otherwise - when living in the U.S. least) is that I don't actually know any "trump people"
Avatar 4:38pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@4:31 Handy Haversack: even if I am a rather pessimistic person, thanks to that man-baby getting his dose of "you're fired!", there actually might be "a next week" as it were.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Julie:

Honey my stepbrother lives here and he's a trumper. But yeah, I get more exposure because of my TX & NC family
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Julie:

I did have one guy I used to work with, gay for trump. (shrug)
Avatar 4:44pm Honeybear:

@julie - the psychology driving his supporters is very deep (primal as it were), from what I understand
Avatar 4:50pm Honeybear:

"I've been dissed and treated as an outsider for being (midwestern/southern, high-school educated, downsized / underemployed, or even gay/non-white). Then this guy Trump comes along, who's also an 'outsider' of sorts. Therefore, he 'gets' me and feels my pain."
  4:51pm northguineahills:

@Honeybear: he was drunk and mad that night, but yes, he has no problem w/ the outcome (his twin was much more level-headed). They are socially liberal but fiscally conservative. Outside of an older cousins, I’m the only non-GOPer in the family.
  4:51pm northguineahills:

One older cousin....
Avatar 4:55pm Honeybear:

I also went home early on Sat nite (as I do most nites - primarily to limit my virus exposure; also because there's just not that much to do in NYC these days after hours, except the usual outdoor binge-drinking). As things went on, it was kind of like any other night...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Handy Haversack:

@4:38 Cha Cha: There might be! I get really scarted when I hear people here saying that now things can go back to "normal" or "the way it was" -- since the way it was was surveillance and extractive capitalism run wild and unchecked official violence against people of color. The status quo is evil. Hopefully enough people understand that now the REAL work begins.

(sorry, I try not to get too heavy. Just ... times are heavy.)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Julie:

i agree Handy. This is a step in the right direction but the status quo was crap. (I was called a debbie downer for saying that on Saturday). I'm determined to do whatever work necessary
  4:57pm Dean:

My politics are, for lack of a better word, meta. I remain very, very afraid about the future, maybe more so now that people with competence will be at the helm. I do not invest energy in the symbolic virtues of our leaders. In fact, I am skeptical of leadership per se. Celebrate, sure, but stay wary and highly critical of not the person, but the office.
  4:58pm Mr. Nobody:

Ahhh needed that PF
Avatar 4:59pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

since you mentioned memories associated to music, I can still remember 11 year old me taping the series "Live at the Beeb" off Finnish radio to rather horrible Fuji tapes and of course the tape ended during this Floyd instrumental, Murderotic Woman, and I quickly had to turn over the tape, furious at missing a segment of the track.., so yes, even at a young age I was a music nerd.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Handy Haversack:

Yeah, I felt pretty left out too, Julie -- or not exactly left out but separate. Dean, I agree.
Avatar 5:00pm Honeybear:

@HH - agreed, our problems are far from over. I look at the election result as a "tiptoe away from the precipice". And at least, a chance to breathe.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:00pm Julie:

I wish I had my old tapes off the radio still!
Avatar 5:01pm Debbie Downer Cha Cha 2000:

@4:57 Julie: thanks for the name, fits my character perfectomundo.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:02pm Julie:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:03pm Julie:

I can hold two thoughts at once, yes this is a better outcome (so far) but also we have a lot of work to do. no hero worship here for any political figure.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:04pm Julie:

I gotta say though that whole Four Seasons Landscaping thing was funny, scary and also funny.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:04pm spodiodi:

i have nothing positive to add, but thanks for the music, Julie
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:05pm Julie:

you're very welcome spodi!
  5:06pm northguineahills:

Gotta charge my laptop and phone, if I’m not back, thanks!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:07pm Handy Haversack:

I am very glad that people who have been feeling physically and existentially threatened -- personally, and not just in general -- by the full-throated racist invective spewed by the soon-to-be-former pres are feeling relief and safety and joy. I sure don't begrudge people that! And sometimes I wish I could work up some hope ... but you don't need hope to keep trying to do the work.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:07pm Julie:

thanks NGH!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:08pm Julie:

Yes Handy and those folks know best how much work we have to do.

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:12pm Handy Haversack:

Already? So exciting, Sylvia! Merci bien!
Avatar 5:13pm Debbie Downer Cha Cha 2000:

even if our current female-led, slightly more left-wing government is well, a more progressive one and so on, I am just scared what will follow... True Finns (a right-wing populist party) came so close winning instead of social democrats on the last parliament election, so I would not be surprised if they won next time, to be followed by a much worse government.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:14pm Julie:

some people think the flip flopping between sides is a good thing, keeping us from going too far to either side but lately lives are on the line
Avatar 5:15pm C.S.:

It's interesting who divided we all are. Could the internet be blamed? We don't seem to be talking to each other anymore. We seem to be talking at each other.
Avatar 5:15pm C.S.:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:16pm Julie:

yes and no. I was having face to face massive fights with my older sister before social media really took hold.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Julie:

I'm sure we've been this divided before. The 60s for one. the civil war for another.
Avatar 5:17pm C.S.:

And still we survived.
  5:18pm Dean:

Among the "some people" who so think, the founding fathers, for better or worse. For a good time, read the notes from the constitutional conventions.

We can blame the internet, but I don't think we're all that divided. Division makes for good news. Proscriptions against talk about religion or politics are ancient! I also don't think our federal government is all that divided. There's a ton of bipartisan work getting done, but again, doesn't make the headlines.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Julie:

and I'm sure there was fake news consumed some other way
Avatar 5:19pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

before, you would feel quite alone in a room with your racist and sexist family. now, you know they’re the problem, not you. with internet, we can talk with and learn from so many different people.
Avatar 5:20pm Debbie Downer Cha Cha 2000:

and also, Finland as a rather small country is hardly the only or the best example of how popular right-wing populism is in Europe.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:20pm Handy Haversack:

Ha, bien dit, Sylvia.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:20pm Julie:

but for them we are the problem! I keep trying to see what they are seeing but I get just far enough to think to myself, you're nuts!
  5:20pm Dean:

No, fake news emerged only on the day the Web went public. We know this for a fact.

Remember tabloid newspapers in the line at the supermarket?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Julie:

yeah hillary's alien baby would be all grown up now!
Avatar 5:21pm C.S.:

Well, I have liberal and conservative friends and I do think we are that divided. The hate coming from both sides...the arrogance and sense of superiority. All backed up with sensational Facebook posts meant to inflame passions rather than inform or persuade. And now we are calling for unity? I don't think it will happen.
Avatar 5:22pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

they’re afraid of anything different. they are unable to look deep down and face their darkness, because it’s scary and uncomfortable.
Avatar 5:23pm Honeybear:

I do blame the internet for: (1) favoring superficiality / "meme-driven" communication (2) making it easy for people (myself included) to "self-isolate" in a bubble of news sources they prefer / trust (3) an inherent tendency to magnify perceived slights (and outright insults) due to the simple lack of shared physical presence and spontaneity
  5:23pm Dean:

Unity doesn't happen at the national level. To some extent, that's a feature, not a bug. Unity belongs in the politics that is local. And, per our feminist forerunners, personal.
Avatar 5:24pm C.S.:

There was plenty of national unity during WW II and just after 9-11. It is possible. Local unity might be harder because different regions often think differently from each other.
Avatar 5:25pm Debbie Downer Cha Cha 2000:

Dean, while it happens at snail's pace, I am working on that Tolonen translation. Could you email me your email address to this TEMPORARY address:

and I'll add it to my address book.. Thanks!
  5:25pm Dean:

Will do, Debbie/Photocopy! Wow, thanks. Are you using Abine Blur? Just learned about it today.
Avatar 5:25pm Honeybear:

Which was said about radio / TV and paper media as well, back in the day. But it does seem that the internet has a way of getting "under our radar", of messing with our heads generally -- more than these other source have
Avatar 5:26pm Debbie Downer Cha Cha 2000:

@5:23 Honeybear: Agreeing on all three points.
Avatar 5:27pm C.S.:

Internet "news" doesn't need to be sourced. People post then if you refute the claims made in the article, the person posting just ignores you and posts ten more articles.
Avatar 5:27pm Debbie Downer Cha Cha 2000:

@5:25 Honeybear: no, this is something I heard from you right now (& googled)
Avatar 5:28pm Debbie Downer Cha Cha 2000:

sorry Honeybear, the above was a response to @5:25 Dean
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:28pm spodiodi:

"look it up!" *vomits*
Avatar 5:28pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

Bandcamp takes 15% bandcamp.com... and there’s also payment processing fees get.bandcamp.help...
Avatar 5:30pm Honeybear:

@ChaCha2000 all good! btw I don't know who this Tolonen is (Jukka Tolonen?) but I always find DIY translation projects to be very cool
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Julie:

I got some guy's whole massive discography for like a buck last week. guess he just wants it out there
  5:31pm Dean:

Check out Jukka Tolonen, yes!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Julie:

i have so much BC stuff I still need to download..
Avatar 5:33pm C.S.:

Since joining Bandcamp, I have noticed some interesting quirks. The sound quality or volume on a few tracks I have purchased aren't that great. Is it a problem on the site or with the artist?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Julie:

what about like good 80s finnish synth pop is there such a thing?
Avatar 5:34pm C.S.:

I also hate it when an artist on Bandcamp decides to tweak their song or delete it from existence all together.
Avatar 5:35pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@CS when streaming or when listening to the mp3/wav version?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Julie:

I wish they would all do the "purchase whole discography" thing. There's some artists that just have a bunch of one off singles and you have to buy them all separate. I find that a bit annoying.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Handy Haversack:

Bandcamp Friday is now the only holiday I get excited for.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Julie:

OMG Same
Avatar 5:38pm C.S.:

MP3 and FLAC versions.
Avatar 5:38pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

I don’t like how physical versions within album pages are displayed on Bandcamp, I think they’re hard to see
Avatar 5:39pm Debbie Downer Cha Cha 2000:

@5:33 Julie: band called Stressi maybe? or try the comp Satan In Love - Rare Finnish Synth-Pop & Disco 1979-1992 - it does have rather funny moments there...
Avatar 5:40pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@CS it’s probably the tracks themselves, maybe they haven’t been mastered or it’s just a choice by the artists (?)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Julie:

oooh thanks Cha Cha!
Avatar 5:40pm C.S.:

@ Julie I noticed many songs from Jenn Vix have vanished off the internet. A shame. Thought they were pretty good.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Julie:

You can still get her CDs but her one-off singles and stuff yeah that's tricky. I'll see what's going on with her, if she put it somewhere else
Avatar 5:42pm Debbie Downer Cha Cha 2000:

also Julie, anyone else, I hate call it "Finnish goth" but the 1983 album Peilitalossa by Musta Paraati - it is a classic, nuff said.
Avatar 5:42pm C.S.:

@ Sylvia (France-NYC) Probably but if I'm paying money to buy their track rather than steal music, I'd love the best quality version.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Julie:

Cha Cha, ahh got it!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Handy Haversack:

Bandcamp has standards for the file type and quality of the uploads -- you can't just toss MP3s on there. So ... I can see variation in volume happening among different artists, but I don't think we're being sold a bill of goods.
Avatar 5:43pm C.S.:

@ Julie yes, a lot of those singles that she put up for preview have gone. Dark Branches in Rain, You Are Sleep Walking, the original version of Strange Buildings...and many more.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Julie:

i will definitely tell her she will be happy someone noticed!
Avatar 5:45pm C.S.:

@Handy Haversack It doesn't happen very often but a couple of times the Youtube version of a song will have better sound quality than the Bandcamp version.
Avatar 5:45pm C.S.:

@ Julie Thanks.
Avatar 5:46pm C.S.:

Some of her songs would be good soundtrack material.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Julie:

yes indeed!
Avatar 5:48pm Debbie Downer Cha Cha 2000:

I do hope there are not that many mp3's or other lossy files sold as lossless (wav, flac etc.) - that does happen maybe at some fraudster sites, but I hope the artists check the audio before uploading to bandcamp. That said, I don't mind my regular dose of lo-fi, when intentional of course.
Avatar 5:52pm C.S.:

Also hate it when an artist will put a track up on Bandcamp but then won't make it available for purchase because it was a demo, previously unreleased, etc.
Avatar 5:53pm C.S.:

It's like shades of 1984...the track never existed. You never heard it. Stop trying to buy it.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:54pm Julie:

if they are with a label that may be a contractual thing
Avatar 5:54pm C.S.:

Could be. One song in particular featured a totally different singer so I wonder if there was some drama there too.
Avatar 5:57pm C.S.:

David Vanian from The Damned had a project called the Phantom Chords and their first album which I thought was nice remains unreleased by Polydor as an acetate. A shame when good music is held hostage and in danger of disappearing forever.

Dorie Greenspan, I should think.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:05pm Julie:

ahh only greenspan I know is Alan
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:08pm Handy Haversack:

I missed the theme -- was making a drink. What do we have? Joes, I presume? Hmm. Topical, Julie. Ripped from the headlines!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:08pm Julie:

hehe yep. I realized I have a TON of Joe songs.
Avatar 6:10pm βrian:

If you want world peace:
Avatar 6:10pm Debbie Downer Cha Cha 2000:

This must be from a off-air cassette, like I said, I love my lo-fi. The day when you know you're old when realise John Peel Show tragically stopped more than 16 years ago....
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:11pm Julie:

strangely I think the peel session all I have of them, will have to get a "real" album
Avatar 6:12pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

nice theme Julie!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Julie:

haha thanks Sylvia
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Julie:

I think i will do clothing next week, that sounds fun
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:13pm Julie:

although whoever suggested it may have defected over to Micah
Avatar 6:14pm Debbie Downer Cha Cha 2000:

@6:11 Julie: sometimes a peel session is all an artist/a band has ever even done. They play pretty obscure Peel sessions (& other BBC stuff) sometimes at BBC's 6 music live hour, if not lately.
Avatar 6:14pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

clothing should be fun, there’s a lot to choose from I suspect
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:15pm Julie:

I probably should not play the Edith Pop Shoes song yet again.. I play it so much!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:16pm Julie:

I can only think of a couple off hand but I'm sure I will find a lot
Avatar 6:17pm Debbie Downer Cha Cha 2000:

Oh my, this song. Like me reminiscing about Pink Floyd's Murderistic Women, Joe The Lion is also one of 11-year-old me taping songs off the radio while should be sleeping, shhh mum must not find out...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:17pm Handy Haversack:

I am already thinking it's a great reason to play "Famous Blue Raincoat" *and* "Angst in My Pants"!

(I suggested it -- I was feeding the monsters!)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:17pm Julie:

it's always a good time for famous blue raincoat
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Julie:

No idea what she's saying about Joe but I like it
Avatar 6:19pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Did you have a "Tuesday" theme already?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:19pm Julie:

some of it is english but not all unless I'm just not understanding her
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:20pm Julie:

I have not! But there's an idea too! thanks cha cha
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:20pm Handy Haversack:

Yeah, I'm with you, Julie. I don't know what's going on exactly, but I liked it!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:21pm Julie:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Julie:

this song blows my mind, this is CHUCK?

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Handy Haversack:

It's chris! Twiggy summoned him!
Avatar 6:31pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Ha! I just realised I DON'T have many Joe songs on my collection. Dead Joe by Birthday Party, Joe bean by Johnny Cash, Hey Joe by Various artists, Cotton Eyed Joe (Karen Dalton version), Bowie's Joe The Lion, Nick Cave's Knockin' On Joe, Sting-Rays' Joe Strummer's Wallet. And that was all!
Avatar 6:32pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

plus yeah, PJ Harvey's Joe of course since you mentioned it!

Helloooooooo Cannibal!

Avatar 6:33pm C.S.:

Sounds like Julie is on safari.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:33pm chris:

i mean i'm listening... just trying to concentrate on making money to send to wfmu :)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Handy Haversack:

I am wonder whether Sisters of Mercy's "Ribbons" might fit into the clothes theme ... I guess "hoping it would" is more accurate, really.
Avatar 6:34pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

yay for Sisters Of Mercy!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Julie:

i have literally never listened to this record even though I have it for ages
Avatar 6:40pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Tori & Genesis, I have listened to them every once in a while but never was that much into them before this show. Love both to bits nowadays!
  6:40pm Dean:

I'll share here as I've shared more than once on a WFMU comment board that Patricia Morrison, one-time bass player for SoM and current spouse of Dave Vanian, mentioned upstream, used to drop by the record store where I worked in the late '70s. I, in turn, used to swing by the cosmetics counter at a department store in town where she worked. She was playing at the time with The Bags. Great band, really nice young lady.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:40pm Julie:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:41pm Julie:

dean you're a genesis-phile what you think of this album?
Avatar 6:42pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@6:39 Julie: recently acquired this one on vinyl! as well as Lamb lies... Foxtrot, Abacab, Genesis (1983), Selling England By The Pound... plus FELT, Tori Amos etc.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:42pm Julie:

ah I will have to check out The Bags! girl punk, yes
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:43pm Julie:

Genesis is a fun album if you don't compare it to anything else by them.
Avatar 6:44pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@6:40 Dean: haven't heard much Bags but liked them of Decline Of Western Civilization. A pity Patricia was not on any Sisters Of Mercy recordings, even if she was the official bass player. I think there were no gigs either then.
Avatar 6:46pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@6:43 Julie: then again the first one is also very different to what they were known for, though obviously without the 80s cheesiness.
  6:46pm Dean:

Girl punk, yes, inasmuch as Alice and Pat teamed up with Craig and Rob (whose ex-wife I used to ride home with from work on the bus). They were killer.

By ...And Then There Were Three I was wearying of Collins-only Genesis, though I have the double live album they did around this time, and I only ever saw them live without Gabriel. I'm a big Lamb and Selling England fan, but also of the stuff from the beginning. Buddy of mine had a record store whose motto was Selling Records by the Pound.

Patricia did appear with the Damned, though, didn't she?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:46pm Handy Haversack:

Ah, Dolores, Sounds great.

I;m about to get into it with cooking, so I'll thank you now, Julie for another wonderful show and for hosting the best party a person can find on a Tuesday. In case I'm wrist-deep in vegetables when next it comes.

BUT DAMN was I hoping you would play this song!

You are the best!

Be well, all!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:46pm Julie:

thanks Handy! Take care!
Avatar 6:47pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Why do I think "all dressed up in your ridiculous seersucker suit" is one of the best lines in rock history?
Avatar 6:50pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

except this was a bunch of misinformation I heard at some point or another - just checked Colin Frank Cave, not Joseph, was Nick Cave's dad.
Avatar 6:51pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@6:50 Handy Haversack: Under assitant west coast promotion man by the stones? or where it is from? a cool line indeed.
