	4:50pm Honeybear: "I've been dissed and treated as an outsider for being (midwestern/southern, high-school educated, downsized / underemployed, or even gay/non-white). Then this guy Trump comes along, who's also an 'outsider' of sorts. Therefore, he 'gets' me and feels my pain."
	4:51pm northguineahills: @Honeybear: he was drunk and mad that night, but yes, he has no problem w/ the outcome (his twin was much more level-headed). They are socially liberal but fiscally conservative. Outside of an older cousins, I’m the only non-GOPer in the family.

	4:55pm Honeybear: I also went home early on Sat nite (as I do most nites - primarily to limit my virus exposure; also because there's just not that much to do in NYC these days after hours, except the usual outdoor binge-drinking). As things went on, it was kind of like any other night...

I get really scarted when I hear people here saying that now things can go back to "normal" or "the way it was" -- since the way it was was surveillance and extractive capitalism run wild and unchecked official violence against people of color. The status quo is evil. Hopefully enough people understand that now the REAL work begins. (sorry, I try not to get too heavy. Just ... times are heavy.)

	4:57pm Dean: My politics are, for lack of a better word, meta. I remain very, very afraid about the future, maybe more so now that people with competence will be at the helm. I do not invest energy in the symbolic virtues of our leaders. In fact, I am skeptical of leadership per se. Celebrate, sure, but stay wary and highly critical of not the person, but the office.

	♥ 4:59pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000: since you mentioned memories associated to music, I can still remember 11 year old me taping the series "Live at the Beeb" off Finnish radio to rather horrible Fuji tapes and of course the tape ended during this Floyd instrumental, Murderotic Woman, and I quickly had to turn over the tape, furious at missing a segment of the track.., so yes, even at a young age I was a music nerd.

True Finns (a right-wing populist party) came so close winning instead of social democrats on the last parliament election, so I would not be surprised if they won next time, to be followed by a much worse government.

	5:18pm Dean: Among the "some people" who so think, the founding fathers, for better or worse. For a good time, read the notes from the constitutional conventions. We can blame the internet, but I don't think we're all that divided. Division makes for good news. Proscriptions against talk about religion or politics are ancient! I also don't think our federal government is all that divided. There's a ton of bipartisan work getting done, but again, doesn't make the headlines.

All backed up with sensational Facebook posts meant to inflame passions rather than inform or persuade. And now we are calling for unity? I don't think it will happen.

	5:23pm Honeybear: I do blame the internet for: (1) favoring superficiality / "meme-driven" communication (2) making it easy for people (myself included) to "self-isolate" in a bubble of news sources they prefer / trust (3) an inherent tendency to magnify perceived slights (and outright insults) due to the simple lack of shared physical presence and spontaneity
	5:23pm Dean: Unity doesn't happen at the national level. To some extent, that's a feature, not a bug. Unity belongs in the politics that is local. And, per our feminist forerunners, personal.
	5:24pm C.S.: There was plenty of national unity during WW II and just after 9-11. It is possible. Local unity might be harder because different regions often think differently from each other.

	🦇 ♥ 5:43pm Handy Haversack: Bandcamp has standards for the file type and quality of the uploads -- you can't just toss MP3s on there. So ... I can see variation in volume happening among different artists, but I don't think we're being sold a bill of goods.

That said, I don't mind my regular dose of lo-fi, when intentional of course.
	5:52pm C.S.: Also hate it when an artist will put a track up on Bandcamp but then won't make it available for purchase because it was a demo, previously unreleased, etc.

	6:40pm Dean: I'll share here as I've shared more than once on a WFMU comment board that Patricia Morrison, one-time bass player for SoM and current spouse of Dave Vanian, mentioned upstream, used to drop by the record store where I worked in the late '70s. I, in turn, used to swing by the cosmetics counter at a department store in town where she worked. She was playing at the time with The Bags. Great band, really nice young lady.

By ...And Then There Were Three I was wearying of Collins-only Genesis, though I have the double live album they did around this time, and I only ever saw them live without Gabriel. I'm a big Lamb and Selling England fan, but also of the stuff from the beginning. Buddy of mine had a record store whose motto was Selling Records by the Pound. Patricia did appear with the Damned, though, didn't she?

	5:23pm Dean: Unity doesn't happen at the national level. To some extent, that's a feature, not a bug. Unity belongs in the politics that is local. And, per our feminist forerunners, personal.
