@Irene: I was just going through the "solo acoustic guitar" section of my record collection and was wondering if you'd heard "The Hut Variations" by Matthew Mullane.

Irene Trudel:

Greetings, Sean, Sylvia, james, Stork, Brian and Summer and Michael and Sylvia! Stork, that is one of my photos, taken yesterday in Wappingers Falls, NY while on an mvernight trip to the area. Not many actual waterfalls in that area that we stumbled across but it was a pretty scene outside some old factory ruins.

Hey YETI BOB! Another great suggestion but I may save it till next week.

Dean:

The title "Geography of Nowhere" somehow reminded me of Guy Davenport's exquisite collection of essays, The Geography of the Imagination. Would love to reread. There is in fact a book, The Geography of Nowhere, about "the rise and decline of America's man-made landscape" (subtitle).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm
Irene Trudel:

Hey Henry and Nulsh! βrian, that's a sobering thought about the WI Covid rate. I'm in a bit of a dilemma over Thanksgiving. We had plans to visit friends in upstate NY, who live in a tiny, somewhat closed community but now wonder if that's a safe idea. What are you folks planning for the holidays?
Avatar 🥁 12:53pm

We're staying put, for sure. Undecided between lasagna or turkey.

Great palates think alike, @βrian. I'm toying with doing both. Staying home, despite an invitation to friends' "Dutch door" celebration at their place.

I would advise staying home.

re: holiday plans - -alternating between dreading the trip to the US and dreading not going - gotta visit my mom, but should I ? So many ways for life to suck just now. One blessing is that all these vaccines are looking good just days after a certain political operative in Washington got fired.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm
Irene Trudel:

Wow, that's a tough position to be in Stork! Officials here in the US are telling people to stay home. Tough call, especially when dealing with an elderly parent.

Wow, great set irene! Never heard that Aksak Maboul before - nor the Elvis. And Bipolar Explorer is a brilliant band name.

It really is bitter, Sylvia. We are somewhat lucky that we have gadgetry to bring us closer - better than not having it, but I'm getting pretty tired of all this screen time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm

I hear you, Stork! We just saw Peter's cousin yesterday for brunch, after seeing some live music the night before. We take as many precautions as we can, but I still feel uneasy.

Epic set, Irene, thank you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm

I try not to despair but I may cancel plans with one of my brothers in NJ because their positivity rate has gone way up there. Hopefully these new vaccines will improve things by next summer, but that's still a very long way off.

Does that publicly supported radio station near Fairfield, CT, still do the annual Zappa show? For a few years, it served up my quota of Zappa for the year when I'd stay with a buddy who lives there.
