Lolabelle Pancake:

This week's playlist picture features a young Courtney Edison in 1911 when he was offering his services as a fledgling mobile disk jockey at garden parties, golf banquets, and lunatic asylums (as they were then called).

Lolabelle Pancake:

Courtney doesn't remember the name of the woman in the photo, but he said she was a nuisance. She kept requesting "My Pony Boy" by Ada Jones and wouldn't leave Courtney alone even after he reluctantly played it twice.
Avatar 11/29 8:55pm
Lolabelle Pancake:

She died in 1947. (The pesky woman, not Ada Jones.) When Courtney found out, he discovered the meaning of "Schadenfreude."
Avatar 11/30 2:21pm
Pierre Delecto:

Years ago it was called a lunatic asylum. Today it's been shortened to "WFMU."
  3:11pm
Listener Robert:

Still looking for sponsors? Would you accept an ad for WMFU? This one's intended for a billboard on US 206 as you climb a hill going north leaving WFMU's reception area for WMFU's: users.bestweb.net...
  3:12pm
Listener Robert:

Ach! Someone's graffiti'd it already, and it's not even up yet.
Avatar 3:15pm
Lolabelle Pancake:

Hello, Robert. Is that Bronwyn A., Bronwyn B., or Bronwyn C.?
  3:18pm
Listener Robert:

Find the graffiti-ist and ask that! But they were threatening to do that with the I-280 billboard ("Rihanna. Bieber. Manson")since around when Bronwyn C. left, so draw your own conclusion.

Courtney and I were just reminiscing about November 26, 2020, which was a Fablio-Free Thursday. We think it should be something of a tradition. Weekly, even.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm
ultradamno:

Sure sounds like somethings gone wrong with Fablio's record player right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm
ultradamno:

Though he's probably using one of those digitalis players.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm
G:

Fablio meandering his way to the top of the hour...
Avatar 6:00pm
Pierre Delecto:

I dream about elk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm
G:

Do androids dream of electric elk?
Avatar 6:01pm
Lolabelle Pancake:

At least Fablio didn't pronounce the next host as "The Oooooooooooold Codger." Courtney cringes when he does that.
Avatar 6:03pm
spodiodi:

Alloha, Lolabelle P, Courtney and all!
Avatar 6:03pm
Lolabelle Pancake:

"Fatha" Hines.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm
G:

His brother Duncan had no musical talent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm
ultradamno:

A result of Fablio's poor time management skills, a symptom of his overindulgence in Popeye's "spinach" can.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm
G:

@ultra: He cleans his vinyl with CBD oil.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm
ultradamno:

(that he didn't have time to draw out the 'old' in his intro, that is)
Avatar 6:05pm
Lolabelle Pancake:

Fablio has the same "spinach" connection as Flip the Frog.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm
ultradamno:

The gumminess that leaves in his grooves comes through in the "music"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm
G:

Spacey, though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm
G:

Mildred, what a s*xp*t. Doing her Betty Boop voice.

Was that about a Cuban sandwich? How do you tantalize that? Withhold a pickle from it?

Best Show on FMU. (Isn't that what Scharpling said?)
Avatar 6:12pm

Thank you, Will. You are stating the OBVIOUS!
Avatar 6:12pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...if the Firesign Theatre fellows insist on passing away these vignettes provide a quite suitable material substitute...
Avatar 6:13pm
Lolabelle Pancake:

This isn't just the best show on WFMU—Courtney is also a real nice boss. He puts the "mensch" in dementia.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm
G:

What about that whole workplace harassment thing?
Avatar 6:15pm
Lolabelle Pancake:

Don't mistake Courtney for Fablio!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm

Having sampled both I can wholeheartedly endorse Beyond Mouse over Impossible Squirrel any day of the week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm

My bad, ma'am.
Avatar 6:15pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...@ least one of these Gittar players is sticking to proper Chords - I fear where Musics should wander if Gittar continues to be uppity about its place vis a vis the traditional Banjo in Jazzes...

We heard that Impossible Squirrel contains 12% monkey brains for added texture.

Avatar 6:25pm
Lolabelle Pancake:

In "Hoopii," the second "i" is silent.
  6:25pm
Listener Robert:

I guess in approximately real French that'd be "Non parle a mi ca" or even better French, "Ne parlez a moi de ca." Don't talk to me like that, or don't talk to me of such things.
Avatar 6:26pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Deffo some gittar-microphone jiggery happening here ...I admit I'm intrigued ...as long as it stays out on the Islands...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm

@Robert -- Hey, Creole French ain't Sorbonne French. I know someone here in Louisiana who complied a Cajun French dictionary...

This Flip the Frog film features one of the earliest screen appearances by a young Mickey Rooney. It's just a cameo. He's driving an ice cream truck.
Avatar 6:36pm
Floradix Hundwasser:

That lady in the photograph...I find her hairstyle most alarming.
Avatar 6:37pm
Lolabelle Pancake:

She also had bad taste in music. She kept asking Courtney to play "My Pony Boy" by Ada Jones.

Film also includes a cameo by Abe "Hit Sign Win Suit" Stark.

Didn't Washington Irving at least imply that as the true purpose of tobacco? That is, when it wasn't being used to create a smokescreen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm

@Tom -- Lil Hardin Armstrong, 2nd wife of and collaborator with Louis.
