Dirty Looks! Talk about your #1 hits. For my money the most underrated band of all time.

Everything about the Everlys :
Thee Best TwoPart Harmony obviously - the model for everyone to come (crept only Brian Wilson with many parts from The Lettermen)
- but also Class A indispensable Songs (Beaudliue or however it's misspelled & Bryant - & originals too)
- & the Arranging & Playing as well
(adore those jumbo Gibson acoustics with the pickups - & so clearly did The Beatles ... even the way they'd hold them vertical @ one o'clock indeed whilst singing...)

The sound effects on that Dirty Looks track made me feel like shouting 'Yabba-Dabba-Do!'

Thanks Michael for the great show! Will put it on in the car as we drive to the tree farm. As long as there aren't too many yokels milling around without masks, we'll find ourselves a tree. Take care all!

The most redundant song is The Fall's "Repetition."

We continue rewatching The Sopranos, and we watched the Zappa doc. last night.

If you love Freaks and Geeks (as I do!), check out the ep. of the Netflix documentary series Culture Shock. Not a dry eye.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm
Montmaster J:

It's about the writing of Citizen Kane....Mank is
Mankiewicz-who wrote the screenplay. I think it just came out on Netflix

Freaks and Geeks was fun. All those young kids turned out to have a career.
I remember the jewish kid says "I got voted to be treasurer and I didn't even run for the office."

"A county judge was shot one day, but she was 3000 miles away..." Sounds like Angela Davis's case to me.
Years later, when I was in law school, I worked with one of Angela's defense attorneys. Great guy.

@Tim in SF, the ep. of Cultureshock asserts that they all had careers because Apatow went to bat for all of them after F&G was canceled. It's a good story.

Another blazer, MS! What an excellent way to spend two hours, and excellent company to spend the time with! Thanks!

And thanks, Ruth!

Be well, all. See youse soon.

Great to see someone mention Utopia here! We're like a mile or 2 away & just had some this AM. Oversized, tasty (although it sometimes depends when you get there...bought these late afternoon yesterday & they're still good). I'm not a NYC bagel snob, have had good ones in Austin, San Francisco, etc. I think the water is a factor (& having bakers with the proper ethnic or geographic, um, experience....)

And yes, totally agree on Freaks&Geeks, a show I missed when it was first on (I think they kept switching the times or something) & discovered on ABC Family (which makes me think some eps. may have been "edited" a bit). As someone who sent to jr. & High school around the same time as the show (well, late '70s) it's heartbreakingly accuate (of course Apatow grew up on L.I., as I did). And the person who cast it, with actors who looked like kids instead of models, is a genius. Some funny guest stars too (Joel Hodgson from MST3K, etc).
