Charles Mingus said jazz was a word invented to separate musicians from their money. Music for a Free World brings us together, drawing listeners to the healing power of smooth free jazz. Each week, surprise guests bring their own sides to spin and their instruments of choice to spontaneously jam.

When I was living in my car (a ways back), and I could afford to splurge ... I used to go to this Mexican restaurant with an all-you-can-eat chips+salsa bar (provided one had already ordered a main dish, of course). And then get my carb fix for the week (salsa is also quite healthy, if freshly made)

I really like Indian dance, though I haven't seen much in the past few years. Especially with musicians on the side of the stage, and the occasional improvised interaction with the dancer

Dean:

From a Fanfare review of a recording by the Fine Arts Quartet: "The Quartet by Ruth Crawford Seeger is a classic: four short, marvelously contrasting, pretty-well-atonal movements from 1931, related somewhat to the Ruggles-Riegger-Becker world but really on its own. The more heterogeneous outer movements frame an imitative scherzo and a “sound-mass“ slow movement, the latter looking forward to some of Penderecki. The last movement, in its highly structured phrasing and palindromic form, also foreshadows developments which took place many years later. All in all it's a wonderful work. Regrettable it is that its composer wrote very little after this Quartet."

Dean:

I have a recording, a 4CD set of live recordings from 1999 by Correspondence Quartet, which featured Jessica Pavone and Jackson Moore. Quite something.

The left in France is depressing, mostly in thrall to a nativist populist egomaniac. Weird that I get more hopeful vision from Dissent than local orgs. The local anarcho-syndicalists are good people, but they're too busy splintering and fighting each other
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm
coelacanth∅:

Dean @424 why would you suspect such a thing?
  4:31pm

Other than the title and refrain, the lyrics to the Motorhead song don't imply any sort of class dimension. Aerosmith...I mean, Aerosmith?

I'm going to have to explore Carnatic metal.
