coel, nah, they just make noise close to the house (mostly bothers me at night), and are just always there when i look outside. they're in the yard like 90% of the time. the other day, i counted 10 in the yard (with at least two unaccounted for at the time) it's a little outta hand

grew up on a large tree farm type place and my parents just gave up trying to 'control' deer. They'd just try to eat anything we'd grow. They're called 'browser eaters'. They just try everything. Roses, crops, etc.

Well I heard the album 'Music From the Body' 1970 that Waters & Geesin did together. If you know 'Several Species of Small Furry Animals...' off Ummagumma - it's all like that. So I gathered he influenced Floyd fairly strongly in the direction of concrete & absurdity sort of thing...

Jill B:

spodiodi A neighbor uses cougar urine/poop in bags hung on branches of her fruit trees. She says it works. We live on a creek and the deer use our creek-side yard as their daily walkway. Winter comes along and they will eat anything, almost. Any newly planted trees must be protected by fence posts and wire of some kind (t-posts and chicken wire works just fine). The bucks come through and rub their heads on the trunks of new tres, scraping of the outer bark layers. They return every year to the same trees; drawn by last years markings/scent. We have lost a few hundred of $ in new trees damaged beyond saving. Find plants that truly are deer resistant....grasses, phormium, nepeta, lambs ears....all work well. Most plants need a fenced, deer proof yard. Just remember deer are not our friends and will kill your little dogs (if you have them) should they bark or in any way disturb a doe and her fawns.

Cougar poop....from nurseries or on-line. Or one could go out at night and wait for one to pass through one’s yard and hope that some poop would be left behind.

Huh, spodi, they don't muffle the sound, maybe noise baffling curtains would help, , if there is such a thing.

i was super into pink floyd then. when i heard what i heard from the wall on the radio - everything i heard from it, which was a lot... i dismissed pink floyd.
it made me very sad. yet another of my favorite bands now sucking.
anyway my brother didn't know that and kindly gave me the album for xmas, which of course is today in mint condition because i barely played it.

Did anyone here see the movie?

The Wall? i've seen it

chresti, i'm not sure... the loudest thing we've heard sounded like one of the bucks attacking a wheelbarrow (or maybe it was two bucks sparring)

Hi fellow bodegans. Have been listening but working until now. Now taking a WFMU break before start making dinner.

Not a fan of PF starting with Dark Side of the Moon but some of these treatments are entertaining.

Have not seen The Wall movie.. maybe someday.

Things I like @ Wall: a) "We don't need no education" used by anti-apartheid So. African students b) "Comfortably Numb" (would like to hear the Robert Wyatt w/Floyd version c) that instrumental ain't bad.

i dated a much younger person c.1993 who knew i hated the album, but said we should get blazed or do shrooms and watch it, which we did. it was excellent.

Oh, the Comfortably Numb we've got lined up is going to be very, very different from that one :)

Heard an interview with KlassickRawk producer Bob Ezrin - talked about telling Waters he needed a certain type of track for a part - & Waters coming in with 'Comfortably Numb' - & yeah - it's an amazing composition.
Wall movie has animations of Gerald Scarfe's cartoons & Bob Geldof as protagonist - it's a literal reading as these things tend to be - but that's probly ok...

I have not seen the movie.

I seem to remember getting to a point in my life in 1979 when I was just getting too depressed about everything in general, so much so that I just couldn't listen to the bleakness of The Wall. What was worse was that it was inescapable. I don't mind it so much now though.

I think I saw segments of the Wall, looked a bit scary, also dreary.

Yeh Gary, this is a different take. // Anyone seen the Floyd in Pompeii concert flick? I saw it way back when.
Avatar 9:22pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I probly agree with most of Waters' socio-political perspectives - but it's a dry slog one concept album after another. Syd Barrett was simply in the small handful of greatest Rawk innovators. I like to say Syd was Alt before there was a Classic.
& the band's abilities in the Studio & such speak for themselves.
As for how well or poorly Waters &/or Gilmour dealt with Syd's mental collapse - I presume we have no urge to do more than look @ the entrance of that rabbit hole just this moment...

(May have relayed this before:) Long ago one night I fell asleep drunk after a partee, on friends' couch. 'Obscured By Clouds' was on a repeat turntable. At about 3 AM the tribal chanting at the end of Side 2 shocked me awake, standing! (maybe after the 10th time I'd slept through it).
