Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30am
coelacanth∅:

that's cool. i hope it remains that way (for as long as you want it to)
i personally -aside from the likelihood of soy allergy for non-asians, the relative difficulty in digesting soy, especially in whole form (tofu is much easier) and the mess it makes of most "westerners'" hormones - i don't like to any foods daily, for health reasons.
- but that last part is a theory unproven, as far as i know.
  1:30am
rich:

depends on the dance i would think limbo with one of those flaming bars would probably be okay

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46am
spodiodi:

yep. every day. it's our snack of choice (dependence)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46am
spodiodi:

i wasn't as into it as i am now before we bought the air popper (too messy)
  1:47am
rich:

popcorn every day sounds like a song waiting to be written
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47am
coelacanth∅:

i love popcorn. i forget about it. i have popping corn, an air-popper and flaxseed oil...all i need; and just never think of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48am
coelacanth∅:

i wrote a song about popcorn, but it isn't about eating every day; it's about eating it with a spoon.
  1:48am
rich:

mariano the entire record is a really nice listen
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49am
spodiodi:

my biggest dietary problem was a mystery for a while, but i figured out it was too many roasted almonds (no salt... just too much fat. what a scary mess that was... eventually got a barrage of tests and saw a couple of doctors. i was sure i blew out an organ or two, before i figured it out)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51am
spodiodi:

popcorn with a spoon could work if one had a flaming limbo bar. so, how often do you eat it anyway, mr.pØpcorn?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51am
coelacanth∅:

i eat a ton of fat. i think i need a lot, but it's probably too much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52am
spodiodi:

before almonds, it was the same problem with too many peanuts. it only seemed to be a problem after i quit drinking too (go figure)
  1:52am
rich:

figuring out dietary problems is a pain in the ass. i still have a 4 year food diary somewhere when i was trying to figure out what was causing the problem(s)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53am
spodiodi:

i nearly killed my dog with too much fat. i warn everyone with a dog around t-day and x-mas to not indulge their quadrupeds, no matter how much they beg, etc
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53am
coelacanth∅:

i ate popcorn from a bag (that i didn't pop) twice this year. but i haven't used my air popper in over 2 years.
it's right on the counter. behind tons of crap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54am
spodiodi:

i agree, rich -- i guess i should feel lucky having ridden out mine for ~2 years
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56am
spodiodi:

oh man, we leave our poplite out on the counter! hard to imagine life without it now... we even have a backup :D -- purchased after i thought we fried the primary one (plugged the thing in a loose outlet upside-down... it survived after all. we did the same with the new one before we figured it out)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58am
spodiodi:

Bob's Red Mill White is really good popcorn, btw
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59am
spodiodi:

and great for air poppers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59am
coelacanth∅:

eating more fat very likely saved my life, around 30 years ago. but since then i think my working more fat into my diet has gradually turned into an indulgence of maybe double what i should be eating.

spodi -primarily asthma, but i had other things going on... like my famous memory(!) turning to shit.
asthma is primarily a hormone issue, and probably a magnesium deficiency.
flax oil (and to a lesser degree other mostly monounsaturated oils) nourish the glandular system so it can work properly and balance the hormones again.

also asthmatic here, coel. i tried killing it with cigarettes over 17 years (hardcore, longer less hardcore). i know i have a b-12 deficiency (after nearly 15 years of a stupid vegan diet, with no b-12 -- i think i whined about that for a while before here). the body is sure complex
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14am
spodiodi:

how did you figure out the magnesium thing? never occurred to me to worry about it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19am
spodiodi:

i know i should eat more flax seed. i should try to work it into my oatmeal. was doing that with chia seeds for a bit, but lost interest
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21am
coelacanth∅:

i used to read about health and sickness and physiology almost fanatically. i generally, anything that i didn't dismiss as bullshit or accept as obvious id check the source against several other sources. (this is pre-internet)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22am
spodiodi:

my memory has been getting really bad... just hoping it's not indication that i'm heading down the dementia path, like my dad, his brother, and their father
  2:23am

chia seeds are easy to forget. once you have to store something in the refrigerator it just gets lost until it shows up again (hopefully without some kind of fur growing on it)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24am
spodiodi:

i should read more too. was never much interested in my health until it started turning on me ;)

what made you stop being so fanatical about it, c?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24am
spodiodi:

so true, rich. i would just zap mine with the oatmeal and let it bloat up rapido
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25am
spodiodi:

i think i made chia-fridge pudding no more than a few times
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26am
coelacanth∅:

most people or at least most americans have a magnesium deficiency. on top of not eating enough produce the soil is depleted.
it effects the heart, muscles, nervous system, digestive system, bones...
asthma is an inflammation accompanied by a defence reaction that creates too much mucous + a spastic response in the bronchials. magnesium is necessary to calm everything down.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29am
spodiodi:

this list of 10 magnesium-rich foods shows that i only really don't eat the fish (and go through phases with bananas) www.healthline.com... so i guess i'm probably covered
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29am

i *think* about eating fish plenty though. seafood and cheese are the things i miss most

Rich Hazelton:

well that’s it for me this week. have a safe and healthy one everybody. next week more of the same as we close in on the shortest day of the year and begin the trip forward to the longest day of the year (while not a fan of 4:30 sunsets i do appreciate the turnaround). the following week we get to celebrate boxing day (which also means more of the same). one of those two weeks will be the annual inflatable squirrel carcass holiday celebration where i play one christmas song per hour; probably the boxing day as it will still be christmas on the west coast for the length of the show. so much to look forward to; bated breath and all that. as always thank you for listening and enjoy life.
