βrian, we went to Paris when we were first together, me and Kate, in 2000. I had won some money, and it was the first time I ever left the country. We went back in 2016 for the first time, and by dead reckoning, I found a bar we had loved on the first trip. There was a major heat wave going on, and when a set of music ended, it seemed like the entire bar got up to outside and smoke. I had quit smoking just five months before, and I was still feeling it pretty bad. When the bar emptied, I said to the (very pretty) bartender, "Tout le monde fume, et moi, je ne fume plus." And she reached out, cupped my cheek, and said, "Ah! Le pauvre!"

Which I very much enjoyed.

@Phillippe: Wagram is way too upscale for me. My tip for people coming to Paris is to take a side street from the big ones, then a side street to that. Chances are you'll find a nice place that caters to "the help". But stay on the main streets if showing off and paying a lot is your thing

I think most of the best music is derivative. It's incremental. There are lightning strikes, but these are sparks, not building blocks

The first tendril of wintry death looks to be reaching toward north Brooklyn right now. Gonna top up a couple of the bird feeders and secure the other two under the table. I laid in bird seed even before spinach and beer.

doesn't look like it, fred. It may turn back to snow tonight, but we aren't expecting more than an inch if that happens. Certainly hope that's how it works out. We have a brick walkway which is a total pain in the butt to shovel.
