December 26, 2020:
Ankur Malhotra of Amarrass Records: Keeping India's Musical Traditions Alive
Listen to this show:
Pop-up player!
Amarrass Records is an indie music label, production and management company based in Delhi, India and Madison, Wisconsin. It's a label with a mission (and a good one indeed): As described at https://www.amarrass.com, Amarrass aims "to preserve the musical traditions from the deep interiors of India and to create structures for sustaining them into the future."
Amarrass also single-handledly re-launched the vinyl record industry in India!
Ankur Malhotra, label co-founder (along with Ashutosh Sharma), is based in Madison, where he's also a DJ at legendary community radio station WORT .
He joins us to introduce new live albums by Amarrass artists Lakha Khan, Barmer Boys and more.
Here are bandcamp links for the new Amarrass releases Ankur will spotlight on tonight's show:
Barmer Boys Live in Berlin: https://barmerboys.bandcamp.com/album/live-in-berlin
Lakha Khan Live at Global Copenhagen (the venue since has been renamed ALICE): https://lakhakhan.bandcamp.com/
