i was friends with some girls in the late 1970s who hung out with rem. (2 of the girls' parents had real estate in the south)
on at least 1 occasion the girls asked if we (my "crew") wanted to come hang with them when they were visiting nj. i didn't trust their judgement in all their raving about how cool this new band was and declined to go hang out with 4 strangers in a band i'd never heard of.
