This was the first Sparks album I bought new.

#100HairsMakeAMan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm
ironybread:

My first Sparks purchase was "Music That You Can Dance To", which is still a strong album, it turns out. Then "Angst". Then in the nineties I found their Island albums on import CD and "Indiscreet" absolutely blew the top of my head off
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm

I still have committed this couplet to memory: My Ronald Colman made 'em blink
My Pancho Villa made 'em think
But when I trimmed 'em real small
My Jewish friends would never call
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm
ironybread:

Truly one of Ron's best-ever verses!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm
Rich in Washington:

I like to think that there's a collector community exclusively devoted to car audio system demo tapes.
Avatar 1:39pm
Buddy Runyan:

Lows should not be resonant!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm
Rich in Washington:

Ron knows of which he speaks when it comes to upper lip hair styles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm
ironybread:

Nothing should be resonant! If something's resonant there's something wrong with your audio system!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm
chresti:

My ex bought every Sparks release that I know of.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm
ironybread:

Best resonance from a car = when you've just got one window open and the passing wind plays your car like an ultra-low jug-band jug
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm

The "2 Men" of this group were of course two-thirds of Fine Young Cannibals

Starting off the day with bad jokes. Hi all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm

Interesting. Makes me wonder of that 2/3ds are the ones responsible for FYC's weird B-side utilizing Doug Kahn's Reagan cutup (sans credit)?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm
chresti:

Ha Mr. Fab.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm

I feel like I shouldn't, but I love this single and all its remixes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm

When the China Record Company released this Edelweiss CD they retitled it "The Heroic Fourth Platoon, Soldiers of Iron"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm

Hi Fab!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm
Ike:

Will sourdough do the trick as irony bread, or does it have to be pumpernickel?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm
ironybread:

Hi Ike! Irony Bread always has a good helping of sarcasm, but of course sarcasm and irony just aren't the same.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm

So, weirdly, this reissue CD credits this second "Istanbul" performance to "80 Drums Around the World", but the original LP from whence it comes credits the song to Bob Thompson's Battery
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm
ironybread:

The band "80 Drums Around the World" doesn't seem to exist outside of the Ultra-Lounge series of reissue CDs, at least on Discogs

That si a head-scratcher. I know that the Ultra-lounge series made medleys , combining two tracks into one long track, but I dont' think thats the case here.

Wow! That Dead Parrot Society comp is news to me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm

Dead Parrot Society is a killer compilation - I must have tried to learn Dudley Moore's "Psychedelic Baby" about five minutes after I heard it on that CD
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Is there anything worse than hearing Pachelbel's canon yet another time...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm
Rich in Washington:

one of my ex-bosses - a retired Australian structural engineers - leads a local community orchestra which has a similar modus operandi to Portsmouth Sinfonia. All retirees who are hobbyists. They aren't quite as cacophonous but still entertaining and really charming.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm

What's going on in here?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm

Ah, DOORS (FAN), one of SM Ken's favorites.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm

Gosh, I just remembered where I bought that copy of "Percussion in Hi-Fi" - it was a now-gone thrift store on Overland Rd. in Boise
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm

Has anyone done a show where they try to play AOL CD mailers from the 1990s, just by slapping them in a CD player like an audio CD?

I tried that once, was whisked away to a CIA black site, and instructed to never disclose what I heard to anyone. You have been warned.
