Dan's earlier comment about winning awards for loosing a weekend was either a dig at the other "drunks" in Hollywood (like himself), or was a dig at how much work it takes - you loose a whole weekend. It's not entirely clear in the show what he means, and I think it could be read either way.
  6:07pm
Ellen Lovebug:

So she knew he would be "out" for 2 days but didn't really want him to be hurt

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:35pm
Austin Rich:

As many have noticed, while the "Kang" storyline is wrapped up, this show makes a point of connecting each episodes to the one before and after. They always mention where they were, and the cargo connects if it is mentioned one to another.

While there were radio serials in those days, for half-hour dramas, serialization was NOT common, and most shows were made to have self-contained stories. One of the criticisms of this show was that the "continuous" storyline made it harder to follow. I do appreciate that, in spite of course-correcting the show and making the show more "self-contained," the writer just couldn't help himself, and kept connecting the stories from episode to episode. I think that is why the show didn't last as long as it could have. Still, we get a nice run of episodes, regardless.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:36pm

Neilson makes an appearance, but without dialog. He makes more and more appearances in the show in later episodes.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:37pm

A reference to it being New Year's Eve. Again, since this episode aired on NYE, and since last week was Christmas Eve on the show, they are keeping their Holiday traditions.

I think what happened: I accidentally "tapped" the USB connector that is the gate between my mixer to BUTT. Which is, apparently, VERY sensitive. (I barely touched it.) So, with that unplugged, that meant the built in mic was all that BUTT had to work with.

Fortunately, I record off of my mixer, before it gets sent to BUTT, so I always have a pristine recording for the record.

I do have monitor speakers, which blast WFMU / a signal off my mixer at me, when I'm not doing VOs. But I'm not sure that's enough to really hear though the build in mic on the computer.

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:14pm

Avatar 7:25pm
Mr Fab:

the noises! Its really what I listen to Chandu for. "Box 13" has good dialogue and pretty cool plots, and "Dimension X" has excellent stories, but honestly I usually don't have much idea what's going on with Chandu. It's all about the sounds, music, atmosphere.

They don't do the best of summarizing the events. I thought about adding a "previously on" to it, but that might muddle things more than set them straight.

Walk Like an Egyptian - Bangles.

Shake You Down - Gregory Abbott.
I Wanna Dance With Somebody - Whitney Houston.
Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now - Starship.
C'est La Vie - Robbie Nevil.

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:48pm

Dimension X usually had pretty good SFX on the song, but it's also clear that they really thought spacecrafts would sound a lot of submarines, and they use a lot of the same kinds of FX you would find in a submarine war movie.

The FX are effective... but of a different era.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:49pm

I do like the geiger counter bit here. That probably wasn't technology that was very old, and probably not common... but in the atomic age, people were probably hearing about them more. (Geiger Counters weren't commercially available until 1928.)

more Cold War paranoia. Commie spies have infiltrated the god-fearin' all-American spaceship!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:54pm
Austin Rich:

The Cold War imagery is heavy, for sure, but I like that they use the color "blue" as the symbol for this story, instead of red. It's not exactly a subtle difference, but at least they didn't go with the obvious symbol.
