I have to say, as a first time listener to this show, Dan, you're reminding me of something seriously American: the set up pitcher.

The setup pitcher, in a nine inning baseball game (I know, we play nine of what we singularly call "an inning," as opposed to three of what you call "an innings" but our games are only one day long), is the person who pitches in the 7th or 8th inning to "setup" the game for the ninth inning pitcher, called "the closer."

For me, in my mornings, "the closer" is Clay Pigeon, and you, sir, now give me a reason to get up even earlier. Just loving this stuff.

Man. 5:08, and already, fifty-two minutes before Clay, I'm glistening. Bless you, sir...I'm weeping tears of gratitude, I tell you. I'm flooding Beverly Massachusetts at this very moment wtih my tears, and will no doubt turn the Merrimack River brackish when I drive to the Lowell High School library, and pause for a moment by one of the canals to reflect on how Dan Morfitt made me contemplate all for which I have to be thankful.

Thank you so much for this, Dan.

The Who—Sensation The Story of Tommy
  Swag For Life Member 5:28am

Tommy was an integral part of my childhood. My ten year-old brother had the album in the early 70s, and I was four. I listened to it obsessively, and of course, being that this was, lanky lizards, I'm such an old man, the days of vinyl, I scratched up the record so that mom and dad bought my brother another copy. And I loved, loved, that I had my own copy, even if "Pinball Wizard" did sound, on my cheap record player, as if bacon were sizzling next to Pete Townsend's amplifier, as the track was filled with scratches and pops.

Sigh. Good times, good times.

It's funny that you discuss trigger warnings, David, because it's actually one of the reasons that I want to create a sort of "virtual hangout school library" where I can just put this stuff up there, and recommend things I just think the kids would like without anyone going cray cray over it.
  Swag For Life Member 5:45am
derekleif:

I just think that if I set it up on my own website, I avoid any stickiness of it coming from "the high school librarian." If I create a sort of fun virtual school library on my own site that just steers kiddos toward good things, man, it'll just be so much more chill.
  Swag For Life Member 5:46am

Just a place where I can, say, discuss the virtues of "La Jetee," and Todd Hayne's "The Karen Carpenter Story." You can watch both of those on YouTube, and if I record some thoughts and post some links to Todd Haynes and Chris Marker, hey, there's a fun vacation bit of film school for one of my kiddos.

Oops...gotta go, folks. It's a long drive from Beverly to Lowell High School. Take care y'all.

Folks, I can tell you how much I love chatting with you all. It was just a wonderful way to start the day. And Dan, thanks so much for the music. I'll be back when Clay's on. Have a great weekend, mate (or, if it's a Guy Ritchie film, son)!

Listen, you’ve got a great idea and I support you but I’m afraid some culture warrior somewhere is gonna find that website and use it to attack the school and you so that they can have their 15 minutes of fame. Good luck but we’re all doomed anyway.

Just some depictions of people of color with lettering above them that said, demonization of the black man” , painted by an African American student after I introduced her to the work of Kerry James Marshall. Let’s just say people “don’t get art” so… painting taken down with no conversation
