I was just thinking about the philosophy behind good covers last night. I think this one totally qualifies. One criteria I was thinking about is that covers shouldn't be "exact" covers, but should offer a little something new and specific, to make a cover worth it.

I was also thinking that the cover should sound a little like it fits in you band's canon. It's weird when, in the middle of the album, the band sort of shifts into covers-mode. It should sound like you mean it as much as all your other songs.

Yeah. Better deals. Some started their own websites (like The Hard Times). But the name "The Onion" still had so much brand name recognition, so they launched that TV show, some podcasts, etc. Most of them were just uninspired. They should have just retired the paper, to do occasional "special commemorative issues" or something.
