i was acquainted (distantly by choice) with a few male goths in the 80s that fit the stereotype of coffee, cigarettes, "vegan" junkfood, complete lack of any physical activity that might strengthen them...
i've been close to 3 females, all in the 90s, that listened to goth. 2 wore goth/vintage attire but didn't make themselves look dead with paint. all were actual and sensible vegetarians ("vegans"); none of them did many drugs and one was very into fitness.

i never knew "goth" existed until after high school, getting out to clubs and such. and always steered clear of people (goth or otherwise) who conformed to such a degree, and worse yet wore their conformity proudly.
so i never actually knew any very well.
