Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from June 9, 2023 Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

oh man, somewhere i have a picture of 18-year-old me spray painting the diver's door to match the rest of the car... taken by my then-gf from the second floor of the apartment she shared with her mother and sister. i ended up letting she and her sister use the car for a while. i bought it in nj for $200 or $250, i think. towed it back to philly with my 69 chevy van. the only thing that it needed was a replacement gas take strap (which had rusted through). was a great car, and the only slant-6 i've owned. it was a light blue color. i put house speakers in it, appropriated from my other's old system. recently came across this picture while preparing to move/trying to capture digitally as much as i can/sorting/getting rid of crap (and things i love) ... i'll keep an eye out for it ... i promise it to be anti-climactic

I met a Capitol/Harvest promotion man in a PX in Vietnam, late 1970 or early 1971. He was setting up an in-store display promoting the current PINK FLOYD album of that time, ATOM HEART MOTHER. THE display consisted of helium-filled balloons in the shape of cows' udders(remember the album's cover?).

So often said Love didn't get the recognition they abundantly merited cause Arthur didn't want to Tour. But clearly from vintage Poster evidence & available Recordings - they were a considerable Live presence. Maybe mostly in California ?

This is true. I never saw The Byrds. However, I saw many permutations Love. My take is this: Arthur Lee was lazy and shortsighted. But also, the first Love was steeped in heroin, which made touring in the '60's dangerous for a mixed race band.

...I will grant that the last handful of BYrdS albums 1970-3 :
en.wikipedia.org...
- were a bit more, how would you say, nondescript ? Setting into a more set CountryRawk style, to one degree or another. When once they were a famously innovative & always morphing band. Yet - the Players were always notable. & seems like there were alway one or two indispensable gems on every collection...
Then 1973's disappointing Reunion of the Original Five was the Last (for official 'BYrdS' anyhow...)

- TheWho would stall out a bit as Innovators into the 1970s with Townshend not being able to top Tommy - but becoming a Live Juggernaut instead...
Thinking in terms of those 1960s bands whose every Album was some new innovative Statement in the advance guard...
Dylan had his Second Major Peak early 70s in that Watergate ~ End of Nam ~ Divorce Period. Advancing the cinematic gravitas of the field - but no one could compare to his mid1960s revolutions...

In my very limited experience - I could still *feel* the pain on opioids ...but I *did not care* about it. Which is both intriguing & scary...

Howdy, Unk. It's 9AM, June 12. I just listened to Friday's archive and checked the comments board. As for SWLABR, I pretty much doped that out back in '68 when I was performing the song with the band Orpheum Egg. I won't claim it's verbatim. Song with lyrics about bearded rainbows.
