In my opinion, nothing beat the Warner/Reprise Loss Leaders twofers (for a buck or two). But, I also have a really good one called The Core of Rock on MGM. And, in the late ‘70s/early ‘80s, there were the punk/new wave comps. Got a bunch of them too.

A sampler I still cherish to this day, is The A&M Bootleg Album. I read a review in FM Coast and wrote a letter to A&M Records and they sent me a copy! This was in 1970, my first year in high school. It had a plain carboard cover so I took it to art class the next day, and my brand new art gang decorated the cover. One of the young artists went on to considerable fame as the co-founder of Earth First! The eco-warriors that did battle with the lumber industry and the U.S. government.

TDK60, no Drake. This comp released some time before Drake's first album. Rocki plays on Five Leaves Left. He also played with the Stones, Traffic, jammed with Hendrix.

The YCAJI cover has a Wynderk Frog which Wickedpee says is organist Mick Weaver = #7 to left of Ian Anderson. Wickedpee lists Rebop as playing with them the same year as this comp.

Barry was one of the people who made a deep impression on all of us. Before those early show on KPPC, it was all rock all the time. He made our ears grow because of the wide range of obscure music he played. He was considered essential listing by every member of my gang of young art rebels in high school.
