In case anyone's wondering why I listed four cassettes in the program description, but only included three in the pic: The Kevin Coughlin doesn't have a real cover, just some handwritten notes -- plus, more importantly, it has his address and phone number prominently displayed. Didn't want to dox him!

Tony, I was going to say, there does seem to be a higher level of personal anxiety in general. Not sure if or how it comes across in popular music today. I don't listen deeply enough to much of it that I would know or understand. Other than that anxiety saturated beat in trap beat.

Thank you for the reminder about the The Assassination Bureau movie with Diana Rigg (and Oliver Reed and Telly Savalas). I had got a copy years ago but never got around to watching it. It was based on a book with Sinclair Lewis, Jack London lineage but not finished and published until the 1960s.

Just looked up Doktor Avalanche (the Sisters of Mercy drum machine): "The original incarnation of Doktor Avalanche was a BOSS DR-55 ("Doctor Rhythm"); the Doktor was later replaced by a Roland TR-606, soon followed by a TR-808, and, briefly, a TR-909."

I didn't notice you saying, and since hsss shows are no archived can't later go back and listen, why the The Assassination Bureau cassette is only two relatively short tracks. Are the two tracks on one side of the cassette and is my sense of time correct, the two together were less than 15 minutes?

coel, my severely flawed memory recalls that the EP was a way to make music more affordable after jacking the prices on LPs during the oil crisis using the scarcity of oil as an excuse. Never made sense to me, seeing that a 12 inch EP used the same resources as a 12 inch LP.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm

right. the only way it made sense were the 10" and 7" ones.
you can have 4 full-length songs comfortably on a 7" microgroove record but we rarely saw it.
