I was fortunate to have an older brother who informed me of things like the fact African-Americans had usually been everywhere Musically probly decades earlier even - & I should try to be informed about it. & - I always credit Psychedelic Rawk with preparing one for just about anything @ all. i don't think it's so weird. i knew David Ware personally and like many people learned of Parker via the David S Ware trio.
i think that quartet jump-started both Parker's and Shipp's careers, as well as several drummers'.
who knows when i would've been turned onto Parker, or free jazz for that matter.
