I visited Berkeley (where I now reside) in 1997 to hear several nights of Anthony Braxton's Ghost Trance Music at Yoshi's, two shows per night. Before the first night, I checked out the old Berkeley Public Library. I visited the Music Dep't, where they were playing Braxton over the PA!
