I recently had a dream about Chicago involving a restaurant near the top of a skyscraper. Access entailed scaling walls and exterior elements; for some reason the elevators and stairways were off-limits. In the same almost inaccessible building I visited a room with a marvelous stereo system consisting of tiny components. The amplifiers were the size of baseballs.

We were talking stereo gear on Jeff G.'s show yesterday, and I can't stop thinking about it. When I auditioned the Dunlavy SC-IV loudspeakers, they were driven by Nelson Pass's 30W/side battery-driven amplifiers, even though Dunlavy spec'd 120W/side, iirc. It took me about three minutes to decide that these were the speakers for me.

I remember the track we first played: Fairfield Four, "My God Called Me this Morning," Standing in the Safety Zone.

(They're the upright ones in the middle in the photo.)

Sound was marvelous, but inevitably they elicited a gasp when folks first saw (through) them. They say once you gone electrostatic you'll never go back to a box speaker. Nope. I bought the Dunlavys when I had the Martin Logans.

Hey Irene, catching up as per usual. What a lovely show! I hope you were lucky enough to make it to the Impulse! show, what an incredible line-up! I saw Irreversible Entanglements in London in November, ticking off my #1 must-see act du jour. What an incredible show that was. It's worth saying that they have been a five-piece from the start, not a three-piece. As you said, they have collaborators too, but Moor Mother and Keir Neuringer absolutely to their sound and ethos.
Their latest album on Impulse! (their 4th after 3 on International Anthems, each better than the last) was "best of the year" for plenty of people, myself included - mind you, was their previous one, Open The Gates.
