The worst thing about ordering Pasta Fagiole is saying Pasta Fagiole to the waiter. If I say "Pasta Fazool (the most common pronunciation, I think), the waiter says, "Pasta Fazholee". If I say "Pasta Fazholee", they say, "Oh, you want Pasta Fazool". It's a no win, embarassing no matter what...

If anyone is in Westfield, NJ (not that I can imagine why you'd be in Westfield, NJ), I'd recommend the Pasta Fagioli and Grandma Pizza at Cosimos (My kids grew up on the Pasta Fagioli-better than mother's milk).
On Staten Island, my go-to pizza is Joe and Pats (but many places on SI, everyone has their own fav).

To me the tavern-cut is fun because you totally lose track of how much you are eating ... you can always eat one more little square, whereas a slice is more of a committment. Also it makes me wish I were a high school calculus teacher, computing the area of a disc by breaking it into tiny squares & counting them ... the smaller the square, the closer the approximation ... and there you have the heart of 2-dimensional integral calculus!
