Politics of the Left & the Right are different this way too :
The word 'Fascist' means literally to fasten. Throw out an Ideology & they goose-step together to the Polls & mark the same box.
'Liberal' means - literally - to be tolerant of broader views. We're the Majority - but to get us to Vote as One is an entirely other matter.
Not actually the same @ all.
This has been the way throughout History. The Celts loved Spirals - the Romans straight Roads. Tecumseh trying to get the First Nations to unite...

Charisma is an incredibly dangerous power for any one person to wield -- whether *we* find him charismatic or not, it's undeniable that some do -- and this country already kowtows to the rich tremendously, so it's not surprising that those two things together are very very dangerous. Fortunately so far, his cult of personality seems 100% non-transferable, which is GREAT news. Someday he'll be gone and, Glob willing, it'll be *decades* until lightning strikes in that same spot for the fascists again.

No society "collapses" or is "dismantled" within massive pain, suffering, and death. Just writing off America and saying it needs to be destroyed or dismantled is the overly simplistic campist/tankie answer for people too lazy or shortsighted to envision the long, slow path of reform.

Part of this I believe is that the Republican Party knows that its actual Policies are in the Popular Minority - & increasingly so. & everybody else know it too. So they have quite obviously - & increasingly - pursed everything else *besides* Democracy, honesty, transparency - & left actual Governing of the Nation completely in the dust in terms of their priorities. Nixon, Reagan, Gingrich~Rove were all steps along this way. It's actually not a sudden development @ all...

If Marx was / is right - wouldn't the best thing be to learn from him & not *have to* fall into social conflict over & over to enact a better world ? Cause I think Lennon & (probly) the I Ching are right : The ends can't justify the means - because the means *are* the ends. We cannot, for instance, Kill for Peace. indeed; we have nearly full employment, but working class people are doing 50-60 hours across 2-3 jobs at a relatively low wage just to pay higher & higher rent, as more & more property is owned by fewer & fewer people (it's amazing it took this long, really, for wealth to flow so fully into the buying up of property to lease). I theorize that capitalism has kind of reached a self-sustaining point, whereby people *will* be able to stay employed more-or-less as they are rn, always *barely* making it, but getting by just well enough in order to prevent some kind of revolt..

I have to wait and see what happens between now and november. My vote will be strategic regardless of who it's for. I hope it doesn't have to be for biden though

it's palestine, it's afghanistan, and it's the ever increasing wealth disparity

I have to disagree strongly on this. In some ways, yes, but in many other ways, it's just not true at all. One is super pro-labor, now more than ever. The other is fucking evil with respect to workers. One got rid of that fucking "pre-existing conditions" bullshit in health care -- remember that? The other fought that. Etc. Not enough progress, but something is better than nothing.

But, it was bill clinton who enacted nafta, consolidated communications media, and overturned glass-steagel leading directly to the market crash. So.

Jonathan's completely correct here. VOTE.

thesecoronalives:

yeah but bill clinton just sucked and after 1996 literally just tried to get ahead of the republicans in whatever *they* were planning to do next (crime bill, end of welfare, etc.)

usually the institutional left, though lame, is not quite *that* bad..

There's no Clinton on this Ballot.

that's kind of my whole point

thesecoronalives:

also: in this new hyper-partisan era, I feel like the institutional left has actually begun to dig in a bit here and there, because their constituencies are calling for progressive policies so much more actively..

I'm gonna vote for whoever I decide to, and I won't presume to tell anybody else what to do.

I don't feel like this is 1999, where there was more of an argument that we are veering toward a mono-party

Liquid Sky was phenomenal and she/he was working out at my gym I believe she was from CT. At Close Range was a masterpiece of true horror and an accurate depiction of rural crime in the U.S. One of the best movies ever made.
