The unofficial reason is that "member" isn't merely a term, but if the organization is member supported, the members HAVE CERTAIN RIGHTS as to what happens in the organization. Mere donors (unless I suppose you donate +5 figures) have none, as has been demonstrated.

Apart from this here two-week Marathon, there is the "silent fundraiser" in Oct (the Hellraiser) where we put the PLEDGE NOW banner up top of every page and hope that you all know what to do. You won't hear a peep from us any other time.
