He's so noticeable! It's nice to hear him just do comedy.

I usually cut out all the ads and whatnot, if there even are any, so I can put in my own. (And the shows I usually run were often without a regular advertiser.) But with this show, the ads are so heavily integrated into the shows, that I thought it would be better to keep them in this time.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:17pm
Austin Rich:

Sounded like there was some "break" in the show, as it was archived. A lot of these old Burns & Allens shows were not well preserved, and many have a lot of "blemishes."
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:17pm
Austin Rich:

George Burns does another Bing Crosby impression. (He did that the last time we heard Burns & Allen on the show.)
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:21pm
Austin Rich:

I do love the format of this show: some comedy, some music, a break, more comedy. It's a very nice pace.

An "old" joke regarding George... in 1946. How long did he ride that "old" routine?
Avatar 9:29pm
Mr Fab:

↳ Austin Rich @9:24
I guess he was one of those guys like Abe Vigoda who was never young.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:30pm

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:35pm

True! I used to have an "old man" routine that I would do as a teen, that my mom thought was funny. (I think she was just being nice.)

Some of those voices get recycled. Some people complain about how that happens on modern animated shows, but it has happened since the beginning of voice acting.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:46pm
Austin Rich:

These long-form Maxwell House commercials are so much like a song, and so much like a radio story, and they get applause... I'm sure they are blurring the line a little too much in this case.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:47pm
Austin Rich:

"The Tall Man," is a parody of "The Thin Man."

Had no idea! I like her voice. Wonder if she made any records…

I have a couple goofy George Burns albums.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:24pm

Good question! I'll have to look into that. I really only knew her singing from this show.

Place-names comedy!

Webhamster Henry:

That joke usually goes "Idaho, Alaska!"
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:29pm

Of course this show predates Alaska as a state.

More Gracie singing. I get this one stuck in my head.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:30pm
Austin Rich:

It looks like we'll go two minutes over this week. Sorry everyone!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:34pm
Austin Rich:

I found a TON of Burns & Allen shows where they toy with "crime" or a break-in or something like that, so I could probably do another show like this. But Dimestore Radio Theater won't line up with April 1st for a while, so I'll have to come up with another excuse.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:36pm
Austin Rich:

George Burns' sympathy with the petstore owner might be the best laugh George has delivered all night.

I'm at that phase in my life where I want to get a dog.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:42pm

I guess I'm gonna have to step up my "Quipping Couple Coffee" game, listening to these Maxwell House ads.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:43pm
Austin Rich:

Some jokes are so good, you can use them before and after the commercial break.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:44pm
Austin Rich:

A dog that loves a mail carrier? Who ever heard of such a thing.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:45pm

If I said, "Keep smiling," when I exited a room, people would think I'd lost my mind.
Avatar 10:48pm
Mr Fab:

↳ Austin Rich @10:40
Hope you like picking up smelly poop…
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:49pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Mr Fab @10:48
Yeah, that is the least appealing aspect. But I was a caregiver for the elderly, and have done a lot of babysitting. A little poo is all in a day's work...
Avatar 10:50pm
Mr Fab:

Old timer” - how old was Burns when they made this episode?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:50pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Mr Fab @10:50
50-ish? So, not super-old.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:52pm
Austin Rich:

I've said it before, but caregiving and babysitting is like a G.G. Allin stage show: more poop and blood than you expect.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:54pm
Austin Rich:

We're getting near the end. Thanks for all the holiday joy today! We'll be back to business as usual next week.
Avatar 10:54pm
Mr Fab:

It’s almost surreal the way they just start talking like a Maxwell house commercial and then go back to their normal dialogue.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:55pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Mr Fab @10:54
Comedy whip-lash.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:55pm
Austin Rich:

I think that's about five times they used the "foot-in-mouth" joke.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:59pm
Austin Rich:

The comedy rule of... sixes?
Avatar 11:01pm
Mr Fab:

No “say good night, Gracie”?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:01pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Mr Fab @11:01
That might have been a TV gag.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:02pm
Austin Rich:

See ya'll next time!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:02pm
Webhamster Henry:

well thanks!
Avatar 🎸 11:02pm

I saw GG twice. No poop in either performance. Not that I'm complaining.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:03pm
Austin Rich:

↳ David Shortell @11:02
Was it much like babysitting, or caregiving?
Avatar 11:03pm
Mr Fab:

be seeing you!
