The Radio Is Broken is a three-hour spelunk through the canyons and fissures of humanity's collective unconscious. It sounds as if a field recording of the Culture Industry were a sonic juggernaut barreling down a rickety track—except that tunnel ahead is just painted onto a sheer cliff wall. With occasional forays into what might pass for "normal" music. Prerequisite journey: Cratedigger's Lung

i grew up in northern suburbs where southern rock was what the popular kids listened to!
...and i liked some of it, a little.
but i never considered Allman brothers southern rock. only after Duane died - which is about when i was introduced to them, but the earlier stuff. i think of Duane's band as..."southern blues rock with jazz influence"?!
nonetheless, i like the brothers and sisters album a lot, where Duane's influence is still evident but slipping away.

I second Rich's evolving appreciation, even while I agree with his take just now on The Eagles, but disagree about Led Zeppelin.

At a higher level of abstraction, I'll only say that WFMU has not yet warmed up to the magnificent achievements of Western classical music, early to late. Still too selective.

led zeppelin was my favorite band (after the beatles, who at the time were on their own plateau)
when i was 10-12. seems now like my age was their target audience!
...but, they certaiinly were top-tier musicians. all 3 of them. and Plant had an amazing voice...which i find very juvenile and annoying nowadays!

My favorite band is Zeke. They're playing in Sacramento in late May, and I'm taking my family to the show, because the venue allows kids, of which I have two, 13 and (no longer kid, strictly speaking) 18. They're playing one week later in a dive just blocks from my place, which is exclusive to 21 and over. My wife and I will attend that show.

I unironically adore L&M, can't stomach Christopher Cross, and never got on board with the Doobies. I celebrate our differences.

Notes: also surprised by solo Don Fagen (after “the nightfly” the latter solo albums are oddball, not great but definitely some worthy moments). So what about solo Walter Becker? (spare output) - I’ve never listened to any of it. Worthwhile?!?

Admittedly, XTC is one of my youth (15 years old on up) touchstone bands. So I guess I have no perspective & cannot relate to all y’all’s apprehensions. Yes, Andy P. (& Donald F) both have unusual voice styles and attacks & progressions that are mixed upfront…so I get that would be a “deal breaker” (as is for some with Bowie & Bryan Ferry - heresie & Unfathomable to me, adore both). Anyway, I ask those who don’t really cotton to say Andy or Donald, how do you feel abt Tom Verlaine’s voicing & or Richard Hell & a myriad of other oddballs too many to list! (Mayo Thompson / David Thomas, etc). Anyway. I am bitten hard by XTC’s Drums & Wires, Black Sea, English Settlement, The Big Express, Skylarking.
& can’t recommend ENOUGH = Andy P’s “take away / lure of salvage” (1980 ?!). - my 5 cents ! Also enjoy the faux psych offshoot Dukes of Stratosphere, etc.

Today while volunteering at FMU, we discussed how much a clicky-star is affected by the set and the segue, etc. For a moment, someone even suggested that segues themselves should have their own clicky-stars, then thought better of it.
