Esplendor Geometrico is fantastic, their song "Moscu Esta Helado" has been circulating around for a while, but this more comprehensive look at their work is really cool (and far more experimental/weird).

hi, liz
i'm back at last - after weeks listening to the shows in archive form (sending e-mail soon)
((i noticed you played Tiza's "Juventud" - what does the compilation say about them?. Because they were a Chilean band formed in the early 70's, during the Unidad popular period...))

Ian Helliwell’s “Voices Reached the People's Ears” is pretty much a quick-n-easy pop copy of John Cage’s (then) radical and amazingly difficult to construct tape piece “Variations IV” (1964). Excerpts can be heard on Everest LP 3132.

There was nothing quick and easy about my tape piece Voices Reached... It was assembled over several months on 4 track cassette which is argueably more difficult to manipulate than the open reel tape Cage would have used. I hadn`t heard his piece then (in the early 1990s) and believe now the connection between the 2 compositions is tenuous. His purely chance recordings captured with a network of microphones to create a musical 'happening', are quite different from my techniques or intentions. I should also point out that the Cage piece came several decades after Walter Ruttman`s 'Weekend' which unlike the Cage, truly was radical and difficult to construct (using 35mm film circa 1930).
