Listener comments!

  9:02am William:

Being a Europe-based listener its not always easy keeping up with your time zones over there, so I am always overjoyed to realize my favourite show is coming up on WFMU and just in time for washing the dishes, too! Yay, get spinnin' Doug
  9:08am William:

Let's go to India, Africa, Peru, Malta, Poland and see what their kind of happiness looks like!
  9:10am Doug:

Malta! Definitely Malta!
  9:13am Paul Sherratt:

William,

Here's Happy Peru:

See, they still have all their fingers !
  9:30am chris london:

keep the conti coming.........
  9:54am nicky:

this music is sending me to heaven and giving me visions and l'm not kidding.
  10:09am El Thatchmo:

Doug's on the God Squad today!
  10:17am Peter:

the Ramblers take on the World! Thanks Doug.
  10:22am Parq:

Many of us of a certain age were introduced to John Hartford via the Glen Campbell TV show in the 60s. Through the 70s, he produced some of the most entertaining and resolutely non-mainstream bluegrass and country to be found. Still hard to believe he's gone.
  10:25am Cecile:

I was just going to say something like that. I also remember him showing up on the Smothers Brothers mid-70s show, too.
  10:30am Paul Sherratt:

Sing Me Back Home ... I think I'll be reaching for that Merle Haggard collection later on.
  10:35am Duncan:

Ah, the same John Hartford who compered the "Down From the Mountains" concert (Ralph Stanley, Gillian Welch, etc)
  10:35am Parq:

And, is Emmy Lou Harris the most beautiful gray-haired woman in the world, or what?
  10:43am Cecile:

I'd give her #2, and Judi Dench #1. But it's close. ;D
  10:49am Cecile:

I already love this song by Sam Dees.
  10:55am Cecile:

Ok, now, though to continue to hog this comments section - is Dees singing from a woman's point of view or is this a tale of life on the down low?
  10:56am William:

I'll hog it with you; excellent Sam Dees track! Love the jangly grand piano!
  10:57am Doug:

Cecile, you just hit on the thing I LOVED about that track! Sam Dees is better known as a song writer than a song singer. I believe he wrote that number for Millie Jackson!
  10:58am Cecile:

That is so, so, so great. I love that he didn't change things around.
  11:09am Sean Daily:

Like this Barrino Brothers song.
  11:12am Jonathan Steinke:

You're thinking of Hanson.
  11:12am Cecile:

Hanson!
  11:12am Droll:

Hansen!
  11:12am its hansen:

hansens!
  11:12am defpo:

ii think it was hanson brothers?
  11:13am Barney:

But not the Hanson Brothers!
  11:13am listener scott:

The Hansons
  11:14am TD:

Just Hanson
  11:14am Nick the Bard:

Hanson was the band

The Hanson Brothers were the hockey brothers from Slap Shot
  11:14am Cecile:

Hansen Just Hansen
  11:14am Parq:

Gesundheit.
  11:15am Rob Pirtlegimp:

Spatula is an indie rock band from the 90s, BT probably put some in your library. Now you must play it!
  11:15am IntangibleArts:

Love me some SPATULA..... I always thought SPECULUM would be a good name for an all-female metal band... just sayin'...
  11:19am Hugo:

Are the Hansons handsome?
Is Speculum too speculative?
Just wonderin' ...
  11:27am Doug:

Damn you Rob! You are right. Spatula had an LP called "Jesus Christ" back in '94. This is horrible.
  11:33am Cecile:

You could be Spatula UK.
  11:37am Doug:

Yes Cecile! And our first album's title will "Flip Off" (an epithet aimed squarely at the hideous American tripe known as "Spatula.")
  11:39am Cecile:

LOLOLOL!

Or you could call yourself S.P.A.T.U.L.A. and come up with a cool acronym.
  11:41am Hugo S. P. Atula jr.:

The second word in the title of that Mangelsdorff piece makes no sense ???
  11:41am Joshua:

Just add an umlaut or something. SPATÜLA
  11:44am Doug:

Twas a typo, Hugo. Does "Sungen" make any more sense?
  11:52am Hugo:

Not quite. It should be conjugated thusly: we sing - wir singen; we sang - wir sangen; we have sung - wir haben gesungen, So either "sangen" or "gesungen".

Hugo, your friendly language advisor.
  11:52am Duncan:

Lonely Woman is a great song by Ornette Coleman, and had been part of his repertoire for nearly 50 years. This current piece by Moondoc sounds vey Ayler-ish. Great!
  11:54am Hugo:

Who will be hitting town in late May/early June? William Parker, that's who. Nice!
  11:55am Cecile:

Parker is fantastic live! - I have been fortunate to see him 2 or 3 times with various outfits. And Duncan, I completely agree with you
  11:58am Duncan:

Is that with his Raining On The Moon group? Great CD on Aum Fidelity.
  12:00pm Cecile:

Duncan it was with Test, David S. Ware, Frode Gjerstad, and Jameel Moondoc. Oh, and with Peter Brotzman. So --- 5 times in two years - we had a great string of bookings in Minneapolis in the early 00s.
  12:01pm Hugo:

It is. Let's hope Doug will dig it out for next Friday.
  12:01pm Cecile:

So, I guess 5 times...
  12:06pm Hugo:

Ah, Brötzmann played here last Sunday ...But I missed the Edgar Broughton Band who was here back in March, but that's another story ... But I did catch Gjerstad with Han Bennink ...
  12:13pm Hugo:

That piece of ö above was a failed attempt to do an umlaut. So Brotzmann then ...
  1:58pm mike tp:

hello doug runnin around today cought vetiver cut angels share very sweet. stay away from aspertame very bad stuff. good weekend brother.
  4:02pm Lia Teresa:

Oh my god - where can I get that compilation with the Cuarteto Em Cy cut on it? I was doing 80 on 1-78 across NJ for a work trip and actually pulled over because I was losing your signal!! Please -- thank you Lia
  8:28pm Tony C:

Please let me know where or how to get Starday Hillbillies Vol. 1-5. Enjoy the eclecticism on your show. Thanks for any response. Tony C ST. LOUIS MO
