Mon. 3/30/09 1:25pm From: gerardo

rain and snow?, oh my - seems we're all victims of the weather

Mon. 3/30/09 1:26pm From: Cecile

I have really grown fond of the Kompakt label. Good stuff.

Mon. 3/30/09 1:26pm From: Liz B.

Love the new Gui Boratto, every tune is a gem!

Mon. 3/30/09 1:28pm From: gerardo

i'll go for gui, then - thanx, girls! ;)

Mon. 3/30/09 1:28pm From: Cecile

I know, and it's cool - I've heard it on just about everyone's show!

Mon. 3/30/09 1:34pm From: frenchee

that OH SEES cut is smokin'! My goodness, that woke me up.

And I share Cecile's love of Kompakt label releases...

Mon. 3/30/09 1:39pm From: north guinea hills

all things kompakt are fun, from ambient stasis, to pop dance floor tunes, and clinical funk four to the floor

Mon. 3/30/09 1:41pm From: Cecile

you got it, ngh. I got dragged into the whole mess with Oxia's "Domino" and stayed to check out a whole bunch of other people.

Mon. 3/30/09 1:43pm From: gerardo

so the label-oriented-to-a-specific-style scheme is still working?...

Mon. 3/30/09 1:49pm From: Cecile

for them, at least.
A couple of metal labels are pretty consistent, too. I like a lot of stuff on Relapse, and Candlelight UK.

Mon. 3/30/09 1:53pm From: Liz B.

I think that Ghostbox is a really solid label for a nice variety of electronic tunes.

Mon. 3/30/09 1:56pm From: Danne D

this song makes me feel like I'm getting work done :)

Mon. 3/30/09 1:56pm From: Cecile

I'll have to check that out.
Some of my favorite folk-psych things are on Holy Mountain. And Soul Jazz, great reissue label.

Mon. 3/30/09 1:57pm From: gerardo

i see...

months ago, i was talking to a friend who's running a netlabel here just about that, and thinking about that scheme in labels related to electronic music in the 90s (mille plateaux et. al.).

your opinions are refreshing and enlightening :)

Mon. 3/30/09 1:57pm From: jess

Hey, no fair changing the info in the playlist before I get the info on that song.

Mon. 3/30/09 1:58pm From: BearJaw

What's playing in the background right now?

Mon. 3/30/09 1:58pm From: gerardo

if you're interested in checking out: www.púeblonuevo.cl (my friend's nl)

Mon. 3/30/09 1:59pm From: Jess

It means, "The cat meows, the dog barks."

Mon. 3/30/09 2:00pm From: Cecile

oh, dang, I'll miss 'em, but there's always the archives.

thanks gerardo!

Mon. 3/30/09 2:00pm From: Liz B.

Thanks for the translation, Jess!

Mon. 3/30/09 2:05pm From: ~L

This Oorutaichi sounds really good!

Mon. 3/30/09 2:07pm From: gerardo

thanx, jess

i agree with L - btw, do these guys sing and dance in their shows?

Mon. 3/30/09 2:08pm From: Liz B.

Oorutaichi is just one guy, and yeah, he dances around, sings, twists knobs, juggles a laptop and all kinds of pedals and effects boxes. His other band has 4 members, Urichipangoon, and they have some vids up on youtube.

Mon. 3/30/09 2:10pm From: dentron in denton

The animated videos are very entertaining.

Mon. 3/30/09 2:12pm From: Liz B.

Very fun videos!

Mon. 3/30/09 2:17pm From: Liz B.

Glad everyone is enjoying this, such a great artist!

Mon. 3/30/09 2:21pm From: gerardo

i'm extremely surprised - there's a very rich, fluid, and relaxed dialog between jap folk and western approaches, really cool!. could you ask him about that, liz?

Mon. 3/30/09 2:24pm From: Ted from Baltimore

Liz -- Jimaji has been my fave song evah since I got my copy of "Insert Coin Here". Loving this set -- thanks so much!

Mon. 3/30/09 2:25pm From: Parq

Harumph. I had to go away from my desk at what turned out to be exactly the wrong time. Oh well, I am digging the tail end of this engaing little music box gone haywire.

Mon. 3/30/09 2:31pm From: Liz B.

Right on, Ted, so glad you're digging the set!

Mon. 3/30/09 2:31pm From: Cecile

oh, cool, I'm catching some of this.

Mon. 3/30/09 2:38pm From: Karen in Sleepy Hollow

Hey Liz, did you get your beaded tag thingy yet?

Mon. 3/30/09 2:39pm From: Liz B.

Hey Karen, thanks, I got it on Fri but had too much going on to drop you a line about it! So great, and I love the sticker, too! Funny about Che and CA, you are right!

Mon. 3/30/09 2:42pm From: Karen in Sleepy Hollow

if anyone else at the station wants one I am happy to make them for trade

Mon. 3/30/09 2:43pm From: Liz B.

Will spread the word, Karen, thanks so much! Love the colors on mine!

Mon. 3/30/09 2:46pm From: ~L

Oorutaichi's cd is only 15.99 at Other Music! Got to get one. Great live set, and really nice interview Liz!

Mon. 3/30/09 2:47pm From: GP

Finally sitting down long enough to listen, ...and more important than that...FINALLY getting to hear Liz again.
Hey Liz...did Texas treat you right?

Mon. 3/30/09 2:47pm From: still b/p

Oorutaichi -- now THAT was music to digest tortilla soup by.

Mon. 3/30/09 2:48pm From: Cecile

now this para's a little fusiony for me.

Mon. 3/30/09 2:49pm From: Liz B.

Thanks guys, Texas was fun: tiring at first and after the WFMU showcase it was tacos, BBQ, and more music. The 80-degree weather didn't hurt, either!

Mon. 3/30/09 2:49pm From: gerardo

a little, cecile?

this reminds of a chilean band from the 80s, called Cometa (send more info on them soon)

Mon. 3/30/09 2:51pm From: still b/p

I was thinking just a degree, and not a wide one, from your smooooth jazz favorites.

Mon. 3/30/09 2:51pm From: gerardo

to start with: http://rockchilelatinoamerica.blogspot.com/2007/10/cometa-cometa-1988-chile.html

Mon. 3/30/09 2:52pm From: Cecile

I'm trying to be diplomatic here, guys.

Mon. 3/30/09 2:52pm From: GP

10-4 Liz,, I told them to make it worthwhile for you ; )
Glad you had a good time.

Mon. 3/30/09 2:58pm From: gerardo

"jazz fusión" is nothing to be ashamed of, cecile, lol

i spent more than 10 years listening to that, till i learned the music' schemes ;)

Mon. 3/30/09 2:59pm From: Joe Steele

Sooo considering going.

Mon. 3/30/09 3:00pm From: Ted from Baltimore

Liz -- what was that Osaka compilation you mentioned when interviewing Oorutaichi?

Mon. 3/30/09 3:11pm From: Liz B.

There are 2 great Osaka comps:
Hard Marchen in Osaka (http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2007/03/hard_marchen_in.html) & Osaka Invasion
