Playlist for Irene Trudel - April 6, 2009

Mondays 3pm - 6pm on WFMU 91.1 fm 90.1 fm wfmu.org

Music floating on calmer seas is "netted" by my ears and released to the hungry listeners. It's a stringy catch, but frequently live and always delectable.

Take us on home, Irene!

Mon. 4/6/09 3:03pm From: V K

this show makes me happy

Mon. 4/6/09 3:03pm From: Sean Daily

Second comment! Woo hoo!

Mon. 4/6/09 3:14pm From: Kenneth

Still no Pictish Trail set? :(

Mon. 4/6/09 3:14pm From: GP

This reminds me of John Adams ( composer, not the ex-president)...whoa...everything just went pink on me!

Mon. 4/6/09 3:15pm From: Parq

Whew, Miss I, after a beatbath like Miz Liz gave out today, your show is a welcome chance to catch one's breath.

Mon. 4/6/09 3:19pm From: French

Like german schlager

Mon. 4/6/09 3:22pm From: still b/p

The color says flamingo is the spirit animal for this DJ shift.

Mon. 4/6/09 3:24pm From: Cecile

what did I miss?
Not the Sylvester. Yay!!!!!!

Mon. 4/6/09 3:27pm From: Pearly Sweets

High-Five, Cecile!

Mon. 4/6/09 3:29pm From: Cecile

Yes, sir! And 1 one million karma points for knowing Prince Charles!

Mon. 4/6/09 3:35pm From: Pearly Sweets

It is a shame. Prince Charles, much like a Slyvester, is one of those musicians that no matter how excited I am about them... my friends and family can never back me about them. They just don't like to shake their booties, I guess.

Mon. 4/6/09 3:38pm From: Cecile

Yes, I'm with you, Paerly. And it's a shame, I think.
I love the Funkadelic, but they aren't the only game in town.

Disclaimer - I only speak for my friends and familyu. YMMV.

Mon. 4/6/09 3:40pm From: Cecile

We're getting premiums that fast? AWESOME!

Mon. 4/6/09 3:44pm From: Pearly Sweets

When I start drinking I'm not so much talking fast as I am laid out on my ass.

Mon. 4/6/09 3:58pm From: bcsterrett

I love this. Do all of Eaglesmith's songs sound like this?

Mon. 4/6/09 4:25pm From: Pearly Sweets

My legs are bruised from all of the hamboning I've been doing at my desk.

Mon. 4/6/09 4:31pm From: Cecile

this has been a dancing fool kind of day here on 'FMU.

Mon. 4/6/09 4:33pm From: Cecile

did you just get a sex change, Pearly?
Or did I misidentify you earlier?

Mon. 4/6/09 4:34pm From: Irene

Oops! I just assumed from the name...

Mon. 4/6/09 4:35pm From: Pearly Sweets

No mic, guys. But thanks for giving my legs a break. Cecile - Sex change from earlier. Much like an amphebian I can alter according to my surroundings. It's a tucking motion, actually.

Mon. 4/6/09 4:36pm From: Pearly Sweets

No worries, Irene. You had a 50/50 guess.

Mon. 4/6/09 4:37pm From: Cecile

bwah, pearly!

Mon. 4/6/09 4:41pm From: Sean Daily

C'mon, Irene! I'm a GUY. Guys want power chords. And naked chicks. And machine guns. And car chases. And farting. And naked chicks in car chases farting power chords and shooting machine guns.

Mon. 4/6/09 4:43pm From: Cecile

you just don't want to admit you've been doing a jig this whole time, Sean.

Mon. 4/6/09 4:46pm From: Sean Daily

Dammit! Caught by my archnemesis Cecile. You win this round, Mr. Cecile... But I shall return! And next time, into the radioactive-shark-with-frickin'-lasers-on-their-heads tank for you!

Mon. 4/6/09 4:51pm From: Pearly Sweets

I love a good string band and this interview/performance/etc. has been quite entertaining. The faster the better. There is a reason my mouth waters whenever I put on my Japonize Elephants album (usually because every other song is about bacon.)

Mon. 4/6/09 4:53pm From: Cecile

I await you return, worthy foe.
We will face off in the squared circle again.
And this time I will put my training to use.

Mon. 4/6/09 4:53pm From: miketp

just checking in caught the band in the studio . sounds good. also seen curved air at the old fillmore east 1970. female vocals and violin and lots of herb

Mon. 4/6/09 4:55pm From: Pearly Sweets

Cecile, if the Nova's have taught me but one thing, it is that you need to do the hammerlock, you turkey neck.

Mon. 4/6/09 4:56pm From: Cecile

Truer words were never spoken.

And, yay! John fahey.

Mon. 4/6/09 4:56pm From: Pearly Sweets

Then call him a pencil necked geek and hit him in the head with a chair. This is how every fight is won. Any fight that "Ends" without this happening is, in fact, not over.

Mon. 4/6/09 4:59pm From: Cecile

No, the folding chair is like the epilogue in the movie, the second encore for the band, the bit of chocolate with your coffee at the end of the meal.

It is the final bit of puntuation you need for closure.

Mon. 4/6/09 5:01pm From: Pearly Sweets

Why can't wrestling be as good as it was prior to the late/middle 1990s. I mean there were decades of fantastic nonsense to melt your brain!

Mon. 4/6/09 5:02pm From: Pearly Sweets

It became less campy and more... I don't know? Rednecky? Which is hard to say... it was pretty rednecky to begin with...

Mon. 4/6/09 5:04pm From: Cecile

Yeah, it didn't have to flaunt it.
It was quietly and proudly lowbrow.
And you had the great characters like Baron Von Raschke and Vern Gagnon.

(I haven't watched that much wrestling myself, but you pick up a lot by osmosis in Minnesota.)

Mon. 4/6/09 5:05pm From: Cecile

The Baron even showed up in a Low video. And was the subject of a one-man play recently.

And of course, we had a wrestler governor...

Mon. 4/6/09 5:05pm From: Cecile

Gagne, not Gagnon.

Mon. 4/6/09 5:06pm From: Parq

Back from a [blessedly] rare all-hands meeting with the Big Bosses. Sorry that I was not here for Sean's Tarzan impression. And to 'Cile, I say, if only you would say "I care", I'd let you fold the folding chair.

Mon. 4/6/09 5:07pm From: Pearly Sweets

I love campy lowbrow stuff. It was more like a carny sideshow where you just know all of these people live in a small city outside of clearwater, florida when they retire.

Mon. 4/6/09 5:07pm From: Cecile

lol, Parq.

Mon. 4/6/09 5:07pm From: Pearly Sweets

In real life, however, I think they either turn to Christ or die.

Mon. 4/6/09 5:08pm From: Cecile

I know! Like where Lobster Boy (Man) was murdered.

Mon. 4/6/09 5:13pm From: annie

irene, i have no idea if it is the pink that is subduing me or the music or both. love the laid-back tunes.

Mon. 4/6/09 5:15pm From: Pearly Sweets

Irene has had a big show almost every week since the marathon! She's blowing up with guests!

Mon. 4/6/09 5:19pm From: Cecile

ITA, Pearly. Always something good.

And, yay! Jinx Lennon!

Mon. 4/6/09 5:36pm From: Cecile

wow, this is on anticon?
Isn't that an experimental hip-hop label?

Mon. 4/6/09 5:42pm From: Carmichael

So, let me see:

Martin Green
Dan Hicks
Fred Eaglesmith
John Fahey
Robin Williamson
Carmichael in boring meeting.

One of these things is not like the other ....

Mon. 4/6/09 5:44pm From: Cecile

this seems weird, but the Fleet Foxes dude phrases kind of like Nina Simone, a little, maybe?

Mon. 4/6/09 5:47pm From: Carmichael

I got a Sting vibe. But in a good way, ethereal and mystic. Not the Top 40 Sting.

Mon. 4/6/09 5:47pm From: Ben

Keep your secrets with you, safe from the outside

Mon. 4/6/09 5:49pm From: Pearly Sweets

Still no fleet foxes for me. Though I will say Irene's placement in today's show made me enjoy it more than I have any other time I've heard the foxes.

Mon. 4/6/09 5:49pm From: Pearly Sweets

So bully for you, Irene!

Mon. 4/6/09 5:54pm From: Pearly Sweets

This Good Old War is really hitting the spot for today. Like in a really good way and if my life were a movie I'd like the camera to pull back and the credits to start.

Mon. 4/6/09 5:54pm From: rick armstrong

While I really like the Fleet Foxes album, they sound a bit too much like a My Morning Jacket knockoff. Actually, this Good Old War band sounds like My Morning Jacket, not sure which came fist in this case. However, it can be said that Jim James has helped to launch many bands.

Mon. 4/6/09 5:57pm From: Ben

It's impossible to have a band that isn't outsourced from other bands before them. Uniqueness is prized, refinement is nothing bad either. I enjoy the Fleet Foxes personally.

Mon. 4/6/09 6:00pm From: Carmichael

I hear the Beatles and Del Amitri. Which is good to my ears.

Wed. 4/8/09 12:31pm From: Cool As Folk

thanks Irene for spinning the Garrett Pierce track, sounded great
