Listener comments!

  12:03pm
Joe Steele:

Fantastic start.
  12:05pm
Parq:

Miz Liz, mind if I use the column to finish up a conversation from BW's playlist? Ike, it was the boy that finally figured out the trick with the pit that saved the day in Coraline. And I've never seen Iron Giant, but loved the daylights out of Spirited Away, Nausica (sp?), Fortress in the Sky, Tortoro, Moving Castle and Kiki's Deliv Svc.
  12:06pm
Parq:

Ben, if you're still there, thanks for today. Great comic, great music, great conversation. No wonder I never get any work done Mon AM.
  12:07pm
Joe Steele:

I gotta go do work now, I'll be back to mess around later.
  12:08pm
dc pat:

this song is amazing. The Intelligence
  12:14pm
Carmichael:

Good morning, Ms. Berg and list people.
  12:21pm
dc pat:

sheer brilliance.
  12:27pm
Kenny:

Hard Core?
  12:32pm
Brian C.:

Anagram for Liz Berg: Gerbilz!
  12:32pm
braintourniquet:

watching the torino riots along with mob47+bastards ugh!
  12:33pm
BSI:

Y'all make an old fart feel like he's 17 again... now if you're sitting on an old Boskops 7", this is the time to break that sucker out...
  12:34pm
Carmichael:

Since I just came from a layoff meeting, this song and title are apt.
  12:40pm
Joe Steele:

I've acquired the We Are The Arm set from last week. Viva la FMA.
  12:42pm
erin:

this Kontroll Csoport song is awesome
  12:45pm
frenchee:

WOW, that rocket from the tombs is kickin' my ASS
  12:46pm
Carmichael:

Yup. That's becasue RFTT DOES kick ass. Major ass.
  12:46pm
frenchee:

also making my old ass feel 17 as BSI said...
  12:47pm
frenchee:

"came from a layoff meeting"?
WTF, sounds hideous.
  12:52pm
Carmichael:

Ya Frenchee, you could feel the air being sucked out of the room. And it's not me (yet), it's some of my staff.
  12:52pm
efd:

wow, that Jack and the Rippers song was great!
  12:53pm
dc pat:

weird, my first home--recording experiment (1982?) was called Jack and the Rippers.
  12:57pm
BSI:

Way too many layoff meetings around here these days: those of us in publishing keep our heads down and wait for the cosmic shithammer...
  1:00pm
dc pat:

call me a bitter old man, but there's no WAY I'm ever touching a fuckin cassette tape again--hated those things.
  1:02pm
fluxmonk:

every time i tune in, yr talking abt music frm cleveland... woot!! got any emeralds cassettes?
  1:04pm
Carmichael:

Hey Pat, cassettes were way cool. Primarily because they replaced 8-tracks. Now THOSE things I friggin' hated.
  1:07pm
dc pat:

I liked the freedom of being able to tape whatever I wanted, so they served their purpose... but they were a pain and sounded like crap
  1:08pm
Paul B:

Terveet Kadet - crazy cadet if I remember. I have an ep of theirs I got from a friend, Derrick Hsu. He had a label he ran when he was in college called Fountain of Youth records. He got the Terveet Kadet in trade for sending them Government Issue Records he put out.
  1:09pm
frenchee:

Cassettes are a pain. I hate cueing them up. 8-tracks are fun to warp and weft with.
yes, BSI, the publishing industry (my field too, at least for now) is being HIT. ugh.
  1:12pm
Parq:

Warts and all, I miss cassettes too. It was fun doing a mix tape and timing the release of the pause button just so, to make for good segues. Doing it with CDRs, where you can't quite even up the variations in track volume or finesse the pause between tracks, just ain't the same. That said, I'll admit I really don't listen to my old C90s any more.
  1:16pm
mr eddie:

dilloweed... almost emeralds, and oberlin is almost cleveland...
  1:21pm
BSI:

dig, dig...
  1:24pm
dc pat:

must..get...to...Bali...
  1:26pm
Marshall Stacks:

The thing about modern Kecak (ketjak is the old Dutch-era spelling) is that it's largely the invention of a German man, Walter Spies, in the 1930's. It's not a part of the gamelan tradition at all.

That said, it sounds cool as hell and I love it.

And yeah, Bali is well worth a loooong visit. So much great music and art there.
  1:27pm
ERic X.:

Fantomas tribute album?
  1:29pm
gurl niagra:

I'm bored...
  1:29pm
Todd 76%:

According to Mark Mothersbaugh in the latest WIRE mag, Eno put a sample of monkey chant in Jocko Homo on the 1st DEVO alb...never noticed it. Have to go back and check.
  1:31pm
Parq:

I've dug that DAM track for three decades. Donated my copy of the 45 to FMU some years back. Anyone remember what the flip was?
  1:32pm
dc pat:

Pop Group used it too--Forces of Opression
  1:32pm
Ike:

Oooh yeah, a trip to Bali sounds good. Let's all go! If we can't afford airfare then we'll dig a tunnel through the core of the planet and slide. I bet the food is great too.
  1:35pm
RagnarR in SF Bay:

Wow! Just turned on 'FMU in zee iTunes and bam! Whole lotta hardcore. Also, this Wuds track would sound great next to Death (Detroit). Keep on with the great tunes.
  1:37pm
brian:

what language were the wuds screaming?
  1:37pm
Sadie:

I'm bored as well......
  1:38pm
Joe Steele:

  1:38pm

  1:49pm

  1:50pm
Joe Steele:

  1:58pm
joem:

  2:16pm
Tom:

Australian X! Yes. I sold my copy of this years ago and about once a month I kick myself - I think I bought a beer and a slice of pizza. Dumb ass.
  2:17pm
detroitdave:

This is one of your best shows yet Liz! Thanks Wolfy and Allison for the assist.
  2:18pm

  2:27pm
fishmonkeystew:

Hi Liz! You wouldn't happen to have any Operation Ivy laying about that you could play, would you? That would be really swell.
  2:29pm
Joe Steele:

  2:30pm

  2:40pm
jneil:

  2:41pm
Mike:

Wow... A-MOMS!
  2:43pm
jneil:

A couple members of the A-moms played the old Knit in some new band -- Freak Parade? something like that -- and visibly plotzed when a voice from the back shouted out for "Strawberry Cheesecake".
  2:44pm
dc pat:

whoa, is this fuckin cool. S-S-S-Spectres
  2:53pm
Parq:

Liz, thanks to you and your guestses. Great jangle-slam. But man, the trnsition to Irene is gonna be even more jarring then usual. Fasten seat belts, because the decelleration is going to be something else.
  2:56pm
dc pat:

great SSSSpectres appear to be no more. I LOVE finding out about bands right after they break up...
  3:00pm
MONTREAL:

PARTY STORE
  10:09pm
Diana:

THE ALGEBRA MOTHERS RULE! Gerald Collins=musical/comedic genius.
(keyboard player not too shabby either!)
  10:18pm
Diana:

and BTW, this whole 30 minute set is fantastic...most uplifting!
  10:27pm
Diana:

hey JNEIL: tell me how is it possible for a-mom members to have played at old Knit????
Ralph Valdez, Gerald Collins live in Detroit, Diana Balton hasn't been to knitting factory in a decade, and Larry Rosa DIED about 10 years ago... if it weren't any of these names then you didn't see any algebra mothers, I guarantee you.
