Listener comments!

  12:02pm
GP:

Hi liz...bye Liz...got a meeting to attend. I sure want to hear your new records though.
  12:02pm
Ike:

Hey there everybody. I like this song's evocative lyrics about washing hair with dirt while diving down to the center of the Earth and bones struggling with skin.
  12:12pm
Carmichael:

Sailcat! Where did you manage to dig that up from, Liz?
  12:13pm
Ike:

That Sailcat song was creepy as hell.
  12:13pm
Liz B.:

Daniel Blumin, acting as personal shopper at the Record Fair yesterday, picked up the Sailcat 7"!
  12:14pm
dc pat:

yeah Ike, that's what I was thinking...
  12:16pm
Carmichael:

Wow. I think I may have bought that myself at Tower, back when it came out. Yikes.
  12:30pm
Ike:

That set of music was better than a wheelbarrow full of armadillos. Assuming that a wheelbarrow full of armadillos is a really good thing.
  12:31pm
dc pat:

last time I went to a record store, I realized I hated shopping for records. Haven't been back snice. I was never a good collector anyway.
  12:35pm
dc pat:

wait--it is a costume wedding?
  12:36pm
Neil:

In college I went to a party as a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. I had orange tights, a cape made from Reese's wrappers, and peanut butter covered with chocolate frosting smeared over my chest and stomach. The party was crowded, but I had no trouble maneuvering through the hallways. Go figure.
  12:36pm
Carmichael:

Aren't all weddings??
  12:36pm
Liz B.:

NOT a costume wedding. Lame!
  12:38pm
dc pat:

jeeze, what's the point of getting married on Halloween then? Are they fundamentalist christians?
  12:39pm
Kent Downing:

Great show, Liz. One Halloween my girlfriend at the time who knew how much I loved The Residents made me an eyeball head out of a pumpkin pinita. I bought a cheap white suit and was one of The Residents on the 'Buster & Glen' tour. I may never top that one.
  12:41pm
Liz B.:

Reese's peanut butter cup and Residents member are great costumes! Thanks! The Halloween wedding folks are not fundamentalists, just not game for a non-traditional wedding, unfortunately. Sigh.
  12:41pm
monica:

hey liz, that chica chica chica was a perfect pick for you! your personal shoppers definitely had your number.
  12:42pm
dc pat:

THEN WHY GET MARRIED ON HALLOWEEN?? Jeeze, I'm pissed too.
  12:42pm
Shepherd:

Hi Liz -- I am tapping the vampire zeitgeist by going as nosferatu Billy Corgan in the video for "Ava Adore." Bald cap + purple eye shadow!
  12:42pm
chris:

Get with the spirit Liz! Recycle some old bridesmaid gown or dress in something appropriately orange and brown. Or maybe a tux and derby... slap on a mustache afterward and channel some charlie chaplin.
  12:43pm
Liz B.:

I'm guessing that Halloween was the only date they could reserve a church and a banquet hall (because no one else wanted to have their wedding on Halloween). Maybe I should show up in drag...
  12:44pm
Liz B.:

Ha ha, Billy Corgan is a GREAT costume!! I dressed up as Prince last year (we are the same height and my hair can be coaxed into Jheri curl easily).
  12:46pm
Carmichael:

A few years back, my friend dressed as Ed Grimmley. Another year, he was Mr. T.

If a woman dresses as a man, is it considered "reverse drag"?
  12:47pm
Ike:

Yeah, Liz, going in drag would be neat. If they get mad at you, then they fail as friends.
  12:48pm
Bad Ronald:

You could indicate on the RSVP that you will appear as the couple's dignity and just don't show up...
  12:49pm
Carmichael:

WOO! Nice burn, Ronald.
  12:49pm
Shepherd:

Did you find a good venue to channel the Purple One? E.g. Halloween karaoke, etc?
  12:51pm
zoot:

One can never go wrong dressed as a Non Sequitur. A spatula, some aluminum foil, a fez, pajama bottoms and suspenders. It wouldn't be Halloween without a spatula on your costume.
  12:52pm
Shepherd:

Or instead of trick or treat did you go door to door trying to convert people to Jehovah's witnesses?
  12:57pm
Carmichael:

My wife accidentally insulted a woman at a Halloween party by commending her on her Nancy Spungen outfit. Turns out she dressed like that all the time.
  12:58pm
listener mark:

Great show Liz!
It was nice to meet you on the schmooze cruise!
Off to work I go. Have a happy day.
  12:59pm
steve:

a member of the Arkestra! they are playing in philadelphia on helloween
  1:01pm
DumbBlond:

Does anyone else out there call the sea the sea
  1:02pm
dc pat:

I call it the shore. But I'm from PA.
  1:03pm
dc pat:

the Ex was last August.
  1:03pm
dc pat:

year ago, 2008 that is...
  1:08pm
Liz B.:

Thanks DC Pat, I'm having trouble with the space-time continuum today.
  1:19pm
Annie R.:

Yes! I've been playing this Atlas Sound single a lot around my office. They played a real slow acoustic version at Music Hall of Williamsburg last week...I kind of like this recorded jam better. Thanks!
  1:20pm
Lefty Horowitz:

Are there any links to mp3 or files of that Ex show last year? I've been wanting to rewatch/relisten/relive that for awhile now...
  1:25pm
dc pat:

ho wow, I sang this song to both of my kids when they were little....got a lump in my throat right now...
  1:27pm
dc pat:

'cept for the bridge I sang "Time will travel on, while we sing our song"..couldn't remember the real words.
  1:31pm
Liz B.:

One song from the Ex/Getachew Mekuryia performace appears on WFMU's Free Music Archive Sampler, Vol. 2:

  1:35pm
sahak:

hey liz amazing tunes cant wait to hear jeffrey lewis tonight
  1:35pm
Lefty Horowitz:

Thank you, Liz! If other footage of that night exists, please do forward the links. It was one of the highlights of NYC music history.
  1:37pm
Liz B.:

Hi Sahak, sorry we didn't get to swap dolma recipes yesterday! Nice meeting you and thanks for tuning in. Hope to drop some Kraus later.
  1:37pm
Parq:

Just walked back after 10 mins away, so if I'm asking a q that was answered, pardon me, but was "Ain't No Sunshine played in response to the Bill Withers doc that was screened at the Fair? It was pretty darn good, and has a lovely father-daughter moment near the end.
  1:48pm
Cho:

Great track.
  2:01pm
Carmichael:

What is it about French female vocals in pop/rock? I loved that song. I really enjoy Stereolab, too. And Francoise Hardy, of course.
  2:05pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Yay! Great show, Liz. Extra Brownie Points for this ELO track. :-)
  2:07pm
efd:

checking in belatedly - I missed Sailcat because I was in a meeting, but I must take credit for handing that 45 to Daniel. (We were shopping at the same table at the time.) "Evil Woman" he picked out on his own. :)
  2:07pm
Terry:

As a kid I always thought they were singing "Medieval Woman"
  2:09pm
GP:

Liz,
This is a strange Monday..First BW plays a remake of Donna Summer's "Hot Stuff" and now you breakout the ELO. Both of these songs were played by a decent cover band that I heard on Saturday night.

Is it a conspiracy? I'll leave that to the audience to decide.
  2:10pm
Liz B.:

Ha ha, thanks for forcing Sailcat upon Daniel, Evan! Deep cuts, I tell ya! I kind of like Medieval Woman better...
  2:13pm
Liz B.:

Definitely a conspiracy, GP!!
  2:13pm
dc pat:

Terry: same here, funny.
  2:14pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

I'm with ya on the Medieval Woman. Nice mis-hear!
  2:19pm
GP:

Ha ha: "Medieval Woman" could be played as a teaser for "Ye Olde Renaissance Faire".
  2:21pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Hi DC Pat, how are you?
  2:21pm
GP:

Oh Billy Gibbons where art thou..I hear you in the Titan track.
  2:24pm
PMD:

Bubbles!
  2:27pm
PMD:

I can only concentrate on the chorus of this Pet Shop boys song. What's a sin?
  2:30pm
Ike:

PMD, everything. They must be Catholic. ;)
  2:31pm
mark:

murder is a sin
  2:37pm
dc pat:

oh hey Wendy. Doing fine. How's it going with you?
  2:40pm
PMD:

Ike, got it. And unfortunately understand. mark, thanks also for clarifying...
  2:41pm
GP:

Whew...This Languas Largas song, what a great party tune. I could get everyone dancing with that one!
  2:44pm
mark:

a carrot
  2:45pm
PMD:

I once went as a banana. brown hat, yellow face and clothing. Dole sticker.
  2:46pm
sahak:

i always wanted to be a tree for halloween maybe this year gotta see if i can find one before saturday!
  2:47pm
sahak:

a costume that is the real ones are everywhere : P
  2:47pm
Listener Greg:

My friend once built a giant Chinese food box out of foamcore. It was amazing. Oh! And another friend put on a garbage bag like a shirt and said he was Darth Vader. Inspired!
  2:48pm
GP:

3 of us went as "Cereal Killers" - Buddy was a graphic artist and painted up the cereal boxes. We all had various fake weapons, a mace, a knife, etc.
  2:49pm
mark:

sahak. i found u a tree costume
http://www.splendicity.com/shopaholicsdaily/files/2007/11/baby-christmas-tree-costume.jpg
  2:49pm
Bad Ronald:

I assume the Gato Loco track is inspired by Herriman's cartoons.
  2:49pm
Jenn Steffey:

One year I dressed up as roadkill. I bought gray/black shag material and cut it up in pieces, splattered it with red paint and pinned it randomly all over an all black outfit. Then I painted a tire track across my face and wore a little animal nose on the side of my head.
  2:51pm
Liz B.:

Roadkill! Awesome idea!
  2:51pm
GP:

Buddy went as "Repro Man" , had the full super-hero costume, the big "R" on his chest, and hanging form his utility belt was a cow inseminator.....ah...Veterinary school humor.
  2:51pm
sahak:

haha i thinking something more forestie and adult sized
  2:52pm
PooMooDoo:

One time I dated a guy who was a bit shorter than me. We went as Sonny and Cher. Him the Sonny that hit the tree and died (sticks all over him, blood, etc.) and me with high high heels, long black wig, and various sundry cher-like clothing)
