"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

Listener comments!

  6:10am
Jeff from St. Paul:

Good morning!
  6:45am
Joshua K:

Good Morning.
I was hearing silence instead of JM which is hard to tell if its part of a song or not on WFMU sometimes.
  7:14am
Daniel T:

Hi. I'm listening at work in Copenhagen, Denmark.
  7:27am
ALF of Hip Hop Slam:

Hey what's up John! I'm listening at work here in MD. I won't be able to make my pledge until this Friday. I make it mandatory every year to contribute to the station. That station is like another home to me every time I visit there. :-)
  7:57am
fred:

Hello all, I'm listening from work too, but from France.
Hey ALF, apart from the visiting part and the location, I could have said the exact same thing. Will you join Billy for one of his marathon shows this year?
  8:00am
Looms:

John, i have a serious question: when you say "support this program" by pledging, what do you mean? Does each WFMU dj have a minimum amount of money to bring back to the station during the marathon? I've been hearing that sentence many times this 3 last days, so the question may be silly (hope it is) but i begin to have doubts.
  8:07am
Vicki - DO or DIY:

if we don't make 5 grand we get slapped about by Tom Scharpling or Nachum, depending on what day of the week it is.
  8:11am
Looms:

Happy to hear that, John! For i already put all the money i could give you in one pledge, and many european listeners may do the same to support the station and not the banks, for they take big commissions on each credit card payment to send money accross the ocean.
  8:12am
Vicki:

Best to use Paypal if you have an account, if you're abroad.
  8:13am
Procaccino:

Pledge is in brother. Keep the flame burning.
  8:14am
Looms:

@Vicki: yes, maybe i should do that, thanks for the tip.
  8:16am
Vicki:

no point in giving the banks £20 with bank transfers when it can go straight to fmu.
  8:16am
fred:

@looms: I usually try to drop a big pledge early during a rookie DJ's first marathon show, to show support for what they do. Some of them seem to be under a lot of self-imposed pressure, I try to relieve some of it. Not this year though, my schedule and the station don't match this way.
  8:25am
Looms:

@fred: that's a relevant thing to do. But i'll check this Paypal account idea soon (maybe the french unit improved its ability, they fucked up so much a few years ago!)
  8:28am
Vicki:

lentils?!!!! You have got to be kidding!
  8:29am
Vicki:

judging by the record fair I'd say BURGERS :)
  8:31am
Vicki:

my first impression of the fmu marathon was Nachum's breakfast in the fmu kitchen - one HUGE fish, a tiny piece of lettuce, and a pornographic sized tub of creme cheese
  8:32am
fred:

@looms: another way to spread out your pledge is to use the marathon account. This way you only make a single payment to the station. I think there's a minimum amount, but I don't remember the details.
  8:33am
Vicki:

indeed, you can spread your pledge over the year if you can't do it all at once. You can do this in installments through a Paypal account, this is what I do.
  8:34am
Vicki:

the dollar is very strong to the pound
  8:35am
Looms:

1 us dollar = 0,733460466 euros
  8:37am
chris from london:

hey guys - i'll give you 15 dollars for the homosexuals cd.!!!!

(in central london listening at work)

1 euro = 1.36 dollars
1 pound = 1.5 dollars
  8:44am
chris from london:

yep ok - I'll buy it here, and just pledge 15 dollars. I do consider the transatlantic costs when looking at the swag on offer and of course don't want you to mail stuff to the uk. but i sure would love a WFMU t shirt......but designs are oh so american (i work in design industry.) Lets have design competition for UK wfmu t shirt, which we only sell here....?
  8:56am
Looms (France):

For information, Young God Rec (from NY) had to pay 6,48 $ for the postage of the cd i recently bought from the label.
  9:00am
postmanpaul:

yeah chris, on the subject of t-shirts i kinda like the woof moo, a touch 70's letraset motif perhaps. But a 'hmv doggy' and 'laughing cow' cow would be cool!
